Best money making tips?

IMO the best opportunities for SAH parents is childcare. Even if you don't want to take on a kid full time you could do before school time with school aged kids and make $15 - $20 per kid for an hour or so of care! Same with after school care. OR just open up for part-time kids a couple days a week. OR you could be a 'sub' for other in home childcare places. I know a ton of people who are looking for last minute places for their kids if their regular sitters are on vacation or sick themselves. That could pull in easily $30 per kid.

Word of mouth is the best way to go for this type of thing - friends of friends might use you since they know someone you know and who trusts you. I would 'advertise' it on Facebook or similar. Or start asking around for people who do in-home childcare and go meet and speak to that person and offer your services as a 'backup' if she isn't available.

This is very poor advice! As a licensed childcare provider (in home) in the Rochester area there are LAWS against this advice, you cannot just go and be someone's "backup" ??? You have to go through the state to become a substitute for a single person, you can't be several people's "backup" you also have to do a lot of training every year, and you have to be finger printed, with a back ground check, and run through a child abuse network that dates back to age 18 with all your addresses! If you do childcare without a license its ILLEGAL and they will catch you. As a licensed provider with 18 yrs under my belt, this is my career and I don't suggest you follow this advice unless you take on the entire license process!

Yes, that's right. Or re-rec stuff, which is quicker. I have made almost $60, since I joined and just won $100 in their kitchen contest. Play around, it's not too hard and doesn't take long each day.

Ok, I'm definitely not good at picking up these programs, but how to you re-rec stuff? I looked around this morning and just don't get it. While looking I recommended target and then got 2 more point because 2 people re-rec'd my target, but I'm just not seeing how to do that.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated from this slow learner!

I live in Canada like the OP-er and they don't require all of that here. As a casual babysitter you don't have to do anything special. If you want to work for a company that arranges everything and sends you the clients and everything most of those companies will require you to do a background check and will inspect your home to make sure it's been child-proofed. Same if you want to open up a liscenced childcare facility in your home. People who just want to do a little casual babysitting from time to time don't have to do all that.

I would have suggested the babysitting too. We have pretty strict rules about preparing food in your home and then selling it in the city I live in but those laws are local by-laws and will vary from city to city. Selling craft items on Etsy is another good suggestion. Sometimes if you live near a school they will ocassionally advertise for a crossing guard. It's only a couple hours per day but 5 days a week x however many weeks adds up.

Can you get a job when DH is home?

DH used to deliver the paper. He would be gone from about 230a - 530a. Good money, still got plenty of sleep, etc.

Or look into selling pull tabs at the local bars...another thing DH used to do. He would make about $400 a month for wages, plus tips. Usually came out to about $800 - $1000/month.

I work Swagbucks constantly. Both my fiance and I have accounts. My DS does too but it is for him, not Disney. Between the two of us, we can make around $100 a month. I cashout us out for PayPal or Amazon. Paypal goes to Disney, Amazon goes to holidays. I run Swagbucks Mobile every morning on our Kindles. You can get 50 points a day from just that. Then I run SwagTV as much as I can every day. If you walk past my computer then you start another video. It runs all day long.

I am just learning to Viggle. I need to be more consistent. I am figuring I can use the GC from Viggle for household stuff then put that money into the Disney fund.

I have searched several times and cannot find swagbucks in the app store on my iphone. Is there a trick?

To re-rec things, just tap the double arrow thingy and scroll to the next item. You may have to follow some people first to see what they rec-ed. Just follow people based off of the kitchen contest and go from there. It's an app you really just have to play in to figure out. It took me a few days, but it's pretty easy once you get a hang of it.

Have you considered driving a school bus. I don't know where in Canada you live, but I live in Ontario and can take my kids on the school bus with me. Currently working for First Student Group Canada and can take my preschoolers on the bus with me as long as they are one year or older. It brings in about $800 or more (I make closer to $1000) per month. It also qualifies for Unemployment in the summer. Have been driving for 8 years and got my older kids school this year. Pays for Disney at least once a year if you don't go nuts on spending.

Only drawbacks are that you have to get yourself and kids on bus early in the morning and be at your bus for a set time in the afternoon, which can be a pain. If you plan your meals with a slow cooker or stove timer supper is ready when you and your husband are getting home at night. It also takes up time that you could be doing other things like cleaning, going to the library, etc. Plus as my DH likes to remind me, I am not technically a SAHM currently as while the kids are with, I am working!

susanv--I have always been learing of driving a bus. Is it hard to control the kids? Do you have many behavior problems?

I am doing a part time daycare gig this summer. Three kids, two days a week. We haven't totally settled on money yet, but I am looking at about $75 a day. To care for just one family in my area, you do not have to be licensed. I found the job on Craigslist. Don't know if you have anything like that in Canada.

I have to agree with what a PP said about making money using Etsy. If you know how to sew or craft or paint or make jewelry, etc, you can make pocket money on Etsy.

I have an Etsy shop and an Artfire shop and I make tote bags and although I don't make enough to pay for our whole Disney trips I always have enough in my savings account to pay for half the trip and DH pays the other half.

Our first trip was $7,000 and our next trip is suppose to be around $5,000. I paid for/am going to pay for half of that myself.

I usually average about $200 a month in sales and I work very part time hours. Maybe 2 hours day 5 days a week.

If you know how to sew and have a sewing machine you can also do sewing for other ppl locally like pants hemming and clothing repairs, making curtains, etc.

You can run an ad in your local paper to do ironing for ppl. Charge something like $1.50 per item on CLEAN clothes (I emphasize this because sometimes ppl think just because you are ironing for them that you are going to wash and dry the clothes for them too so be specific that it is ironing on CLEAN clothes, if ppl want to bring you dirty clothes then of course they have to pay more for laundry service and ironing together) which is cheaper than the cleaner charges to iron them. PPL will dump HUGE LOADS of ironing on you and you can stand there and iron while you watch tv or keep an eye on your kids. I know a woman who ran an ad to iron for ppl and she had so many ppl bringing stuff for her to iron it was a FULL TIME job for her. She made a couple hundred bucks a week doing it. I couldn't do that because I hate ironing, but if you don't hate ironing and you don't live way out in the sticks, ppl will use you.

You also can do like others have said and babysit, but I couldn't do that either. I like my own kids well enough but I can't deal with other ppl's kids all day. Not for me.

I live in the US and live in a small city (POP 25,000) and I think there may be some child care laws you have to go by to be able to keep kids in your home, but ppl don't bother with it. I have a neighbor who has been keeping children in her home for over 25 years and has never had one single issue or had anybody report her for keeping kids.

She keeps 3 regular daily children and charges $25 a day for them and she has 3 or part time kids she keeps a few days a week. She makes a modest living doing it. So if you can tolerate dealing with other ppl's kids, you can babysit. And as a PP said, the laws in Canada aren't the same as the laws here.

I rented a space at an antique mall/flea market for $125/mo. I make crafts with my Cricut, make wreaths, hair bows and also use it to put stuff from my home I don't want anymore. (its easier than a yard sale). They ring everything up for you. You don't even have to be there. All I do is price my things and keep space stocked. So far I have made $200-480/mo. (after rent). The end of the month I get a detailed printout of everything I sold and my check. Love it!

I needed extra income, too. I recently decided to start my own IBO with no cold calling necessary. You get residual income and basically send e-mails to those who contact your site. You can PM me if you are interested. You can do as little or as much as you want. No special hours needed. Work on your time.

Disneymom3 - the worst behaved kids on my current bus route are my own! That being said I have had good runs and bad runs over the years. Depends on the schools and if they follow up on reports and back the driver. The worst is the middle schools, elementary and secondary can both be reasonned with. The middle school kids think they are the be all and end all.

I quit my job to be able to go to school full time, and this summer is our first summer without me having a paycheck (and essentially being a SAHM for the first time :cool1:) However ... we need money, so I'm babysitting a few kids for a couple hours a week to have a little bit to help us.

Because I'm home now, it's my job to watch our spending. One of the biggest things I've done it started cooking every.single.meal at home. Oh, I'm so tired of cooking, lol. It's not something I like, but we eat all three meals at home, and I spent $115 this week in groceries. I cook snacks and desserts as well. It's not that I hated cooking to begin with ... but it's just a lot of work. However, it's saving us a lot of money.

I'll let you know how this summer goes, but I might be crazy by the end of it. I've also been browsing pinterest for cheap ideas on things to do with my dd and her friends over the summer. We just moved into our house, and it's already the house to play at. Yay for even more kids ... and xanax ...
