I know there is a lot of old discussion about this and I read through it a while back but a lot of what I found was from years ago. We all know new products come out all the time, and others disappear. In the next couple days, I plan to get these magnets done. Please help? (apparently the ship matters...? This will be Fantasy.)
Not sure whether to go to a craft store /office store or Amazon?
Print on regular paper then add magnets?
Print on magnet paper? Brand?
Print on photo paper?

TIA!

I go to Office Max and get Kodak magnet paper and print them on that.
They worked perfectly on The Fantasy doors.

Have a great time!

I actually just finished making mine. I got my designs from Barb's post on here. I printed them on 60lb paper and took them to Staples to be laminated. They came out nice and sturdy with the heavier paper and the thicker laminating sheets. I glued the magnets to the back and we are ready to hang them!

Good luck with yours. :)

I print mine from home on Avery magnet paper. I love how brilliant the colors come out.

Staples magnetic sheets- around $12 for 4 sheets that are 8x11. Colors came out awesome- Epson inkjet printer. I will try and post a picture later. My son designed them. We have used this brand before and had good luck.

I printed mine on normal inkjet photo paper. cardstock would work ok too, but the colours can be really ncie with photo paper.

I then used business card magnets from staples ( http://www.staples.ca/en/Staples-Business-Card-Magnets-100-Pack/product_26721_2-CA_1_20001 ): peel the and stick to the back of the photo. More than strong enough to hold a photo to the door of our Dream and Fantasy cabins. Also, FWIW, they also work on many of the cabin walls :-)

This had a few advantages:

- printing photos at home are fairly cheap
- if it messes up I just print the sucker again -- the cost is in pennies not dollars
- i can print a second one as a backup should the original go on an unauthorized journey
- if it isn;t sticking well, just slap on one of the extra magnets i brought for just that purpose

Also, one can easily buy a postcard and slap on a magnet and voila instant decoration.

If one really wanted to save money, at the end of the trip one could remove the magnets and then reuse them - though you may need to use glue for subsequent rounds of use.

I second using the business card magnets. I print the DISigns at home on photo paper from Costco and then put the business card magnets on the back. Never had a problem with them sticking on the doors, including the Fantasy.

I print on photo paper, cut out the shape, put on adhesive magnetic sheets (from Michael's), and cut them out again. Yes, that's a lot of cutting, but it's the best use of the space that way, not as much waste.

What I will be doing for mine is using the print and cut feature on my Cricut. I have a laser jet printer so printing on glossy photo paper is not an option for me.
This will hopefully keep me from cutting out multiple things...I am a little OCD about how my cuts look, so I am sure that I would be cutting a whole lot more if I did it by hand because I would be certain to mess it up at least in my mind!

When I was making magnets (a few years ago), the cheapest option I found was to print on photo paper, and then stick on small amounts of the adhesive magnet sheets (I just used a strip at the top and bottom) and cut around the shape. Like PP said, less waste.

My dollar store also sold magnets with photo sleeves for 2 for a $1. I did those too - just created a printout (on regular paper) that was 4x6 in size and slid them into the photo sleeves.

I save any advertising magnets that come in the mail to use for my magnets. I have someone who sends me baseball and football schedules as magnets plus I get business card size in the mail too. I then use Rubber Cement on both the paper magnet and the advertising magnet. I've never had a problem with magnets that don't stick but I've never been on the Fantasy just Dream, Wonder, and Magic.
