Best meals for the value?

I know everything is going to be expensive in Disney, but tell me your favorite place to eat with big servings/buffet style. I don't have a dining plan.

I'm thinking I want to do one character breakfast (buffet style, probably late breakfast so it'll hold me over through dinner). Right now I have reservations for the Tuskar House. Is Chef Mickey's good? Which one is better? How about Ohana? My trip is next Sunday March 6-March 11.

As for other meals, I plan on doing quick service. Are there places "cheaper" than others? I prefer american style (burgers, fries, chicken, mac and cheese, and Mickey Waffles :D )

Any dining tips are appreciated! I plan on bringing granola/protein bars into the park with my own bottle of water.

Tusker house is a great option. It's got some typical breakfast foods like all the others and then adds in some more unique buffet items you won't see at other places.

Trail's End at Fort Wilderness is likely the best value in the World. Another fine spot to eat for not too much money is Sanaa. During daylight hours animals can be seen from most tables which is a bonus, and there are items on the menu that won't break the bank. The bread service alone is worthy of a meal and is spectacularly good.

Boma breakfast buffet is a great deal in my opinion*(no Characters thought). I avoid the place like the plague for dinner but Breakfast is one of the best we have had and very reasonable. Garden Grill's was also great(mmm Cinnamon rolls). 1900 Park Fare and Cape May we're also good but not as good as Garden Grill or Bomo. We are trying Tusker House Breakfast this June.

*The buffet breakfast server after the Sunrise Safari is absolutely the best we have ever had and includes the 45min to 1 hour Safari but sadly it was done away with and I don't think it has returned.

Thanks!! I'll check those out!

Any opinions on Cape May Cafe breakfast?

We tried it out because we were staying at Beach Club, it was nice for a first time but I haven't been inclined to go back with all the other options available. It kind of reminded me of Shoney's but with Characters, all that was missing was my Dad bum rushing the hot bar.

Is Chef Mickey's good?

I haven't been to Chef Mickey's, but it seems to be one of the most poorly reviewed restaurants on the DIS. Apparently the food is routinely sub-par.

I did eat a late breakfast on my Last trip at Cape May, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We went to Epcot at rope drop, got some things done while the lines were short, then walked to Cape May for a 10:45 ADR. Worked great!

One thing I can recommend to save money (and time) is to eat breakfast in your room. Most rooms have a fridge, so you can have cereal or pastries, milk, and juice for breakfast very easily.

I'm not a fan of Chef Mickey's. It's crowded, loud, and has pedestrian food, even by Disney standards. A better experience (and a slightly cheaper one) would be 1900 Park Fare. The food, while not stunning, is solid, and you'll find many people (including me) who believe it has the best character interaction of all the buffets.

I like Cape May. You get great characters and it's not too expensive. Same with 1900 Park Fare (and you get characters there you don't see a whole lot).

For QS, Earl of Sandwich is a good bet in DS. They are pretty inexpensive with really good food. Most of the others coming to mind are all right around the same price point, so I think it's going to be just picking what menus look good.

Trails end for dinner buffet-
Biergarten at Epcot for lunch(a late lunch=early dinner, right?)
Whispering Canyon for lunch- all you can eat skillet sounds good(again,lunch/dinner)
I'm also a fan of late breakfast= lunch too.... breakfast buffets are always cheaper than dinners,as are lunches if you can find them buffet.
Buffets can be pricey though, sometimes 'reguar' food is a better deal- Plaza in MK is decent and ok priced- Columbia Harbor House qs-
Sunshine Seasons qs- characters always up the price anywhere so if you don't care, find one without- (fwiw Boma at dinner is always our splurge meal)
