What is your favorite primer and why?

I've never used primer, can you tell me the benefits? Especially for use in the hot WDW sun?

I just started using a makeup primer and LOVE it!!
I think it's Smashbox-goes on like silk and gives a flawless finish.

Boy, I must be behind the times... I don't guess I know what make-up primer is!!! Is this used with mineral makeup???? I don't use it because I don't feel like it would stay on my skin, and because it is messy to use loose powder. Easy for it to get on your clothing, etc... when using it.

Here is what I do.
First, I make sure to use a foundation that is completely non-oily and oil free. (non of the 'moisurizing' or ones are supposed to leave a 'dewey' finish) And, when heading out in the Summer, what I do is mix it with some BullFrog sunblock in my fingertips before applying. Bullfrog is ultra water/sweat/run resistant. It is not a sticky lotion, it is a quick-drying spray gel. When I do this, I know my face is set for the day!

BullFrog is also recommended for men whose hair is getting thin... the exposed scalp when parting hair for braids or ponytails..... the stuff works!

Primer evens up skintone, open pores that sort of thing. Feels light and silky going on and puts a light, filmy base on your face before applying foundation or powder. It really makes a big difference.

I don't use one for base, but I like Urban Decay's Primer Potion for eyes. It is great! Your eye makeup will not go ANYWHERE if you use it!

I use the Urban Decay primer, under my eyes and over. It works so well! I always had creases by the end of the day, and now my eye shadow looks as good at 9 pm as it did at 9 am!

I use smashbox primer also-it is great.I like the one that has the spf in it when I go to Disney(gives me little extra protection)I have rosacea and I use bare escentuals foundation and I have no problems with smashbox bothering my skin.It keeps makeup from gathering in lines and it keeps me shine free and smooth feeling.I always use it in disney -it helps keep my makeup on but if I am really sweating and wiping my face off then it will still come off.

I use MAC foundation & powder. I don't need a primer. It gives a flawless finish, like not even wearing anything. You can actually see skin texture, not foundation. A friend is a makeup artist for the movie shoots & commercials here in NYC. MAC is what she & the other professional makeup artists use. I don't think the others use primer either. Unless, I suppose someone really requires it.

I had never used primer in my life until about 6 months ago. I bought Bare Minerals primer and I LOVE it! A tiny bit goes a long way, and it makes my mineral powder stay on all day. I also think my skin has improved drastically from all the minerals in it. The tone is much more even and I have had hardly any breakouts! I can't imagine ever being without it now! :thumbsup2

So is a primer used more for improving the actual skin, or how the makeup goes on and stays on?

I can't imagine not using a primer. I only use Everyday Minerals for my actual makeup, but in this constant heat and humidity even mineral makeup goes bye-bye before the end of the day.

The primer I use is MagiX Face Perfector by Avon. It creates this silky smooth canvas for the makeup, makes you look like you have no pores, and is SPF 20 (also critical down here.) I love that stuff! :lovestruc

Is primer something you liberally put on or is it maybe a dime-size amount? Should you wait for it to dry before putting on foundation?

Also, can you use liquid or powder or minerals over it?

A little bit of primer goes a long way. I use Prime Time from Bare Escentuals.

Very small amounts..thinly applied.
I use foundation on top but let it dry which takes seconds.

Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel.......Yep that's right, MONISTAT;)!!!!!! Thanks to the make-up thread!!

Monistat reviews http://www.makeupalley.com/product/...f_Powder-Gel/Unlisted_Brand/Primer/_Corrector

Yup- that Monistat stuff is amazing! It has virtually the same ingredients as several expensive, high-end primers, but at a tiny fraction of the price. I love it- use it under my mineral makeup, and everything stays put all day, even in the heat and humidity of our NC summers.

I've been using the Monistat stuff for over a year now - it's the SAME thing as the Smashbox at a fraction of the price (I pay $5 for a tube that is 2x larger than the Smashbox stuff).

Makes my skin smoother and more even and my makeup last all day.

It's not for yeast infections; it's a chafing gel put out by the makers of Monistat.

Some of the Monistat reviews state it gave users cystic pimples (those big, painful ones that take a while to go away). Anyone experience this with the Monistat?

I ordered the Smashbox Photo Finish primer yesterday. I'd like to get the Monistat b/c it's MUCH cheaper but NOT if it causes painful pimples.
