Hi, all! Hoping you can help. We own at SSR and are going down for a week during spring break! I'm already scared of the crowds! :scared: MIL/FIL are traveling with us and she has a difficult time getting around. She can walk short distances, but tires easily and has arthritis in her knees.

Where would you say is the best place to request, assuming we have an option? I'm leaning towards the Springs just because it's closest to everything. However, I'm questioning whether we'd be better off at a quiet pool, even though they're not zero entry. We'll have our own car, so transportation isn't an issue.

Thanks for your thoughts! :goodvibes

We just stayed in Congress park last April. This was close to a quiet pool, close to Downtown Disney, but would be a long walk for your inlaws but you have a nice view of DTD as well. If you have transportation you could always drive up to the carriage house for food and what not seeing that is not an issue. If your inlaws like to have a place to explore on their own then i would suggest being as close to the carriage house as possible, but i dont know what building would be best for that, i have only stayed at SSR once.

One other thing, my parents just came back from SSR and my father can not walk long distances at all, it my be worth the extra money if you rent one of those motorized chairs, it will really increase the freedom of exploration for the user as well and not make them feel like they are holding everyone up. They run about $300 for the week and they will drop it off at SSR.

Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions.

I logged on today specifically to ask this same question - we're going down at the end of january for a conference for DH and DS (6 yo) and I will be on our own much of the time. I'd love a DTD view - had that before and it was gorgeous - but I think since DH will have the car for a few days and DS and i will be alone, I'd like to be closer to the Carriage House, pool, etc. Is that the Springs?

I know nothing is guaranteed, but what is best for a mom and little guy on their own?

thanks to the OP for starting this thread and thanks to all who respond.

I was one month away from my third knee surgery when we stayed at SSR in September. We were in The Grandstand section and it was great for me.
The walk to the bus stop was very short. It was very important for me to be able to sit since standing was an issue for me. I had no balance at all..It would not have been pretty. :headache:

Grandstand was the first stop to be picked up and dropped off so I always had a seat in the am. The bus service was perfect. They ran frequently so I usually had a seat in the evenings too. The bus was standing only by the time we reached The Springs and that was during a slow time. I know you said you had your own car but, just in case you decide to take a bus.

The walk to the main building and pool was very short and the quiet pool in that section was great.

We just got back from a stay at SSR. We were in the Grandstand section as well and I'd recommend it. It's got a pool of its own and it was less than a 5 minute walk to the main area / pool. Also its also very close to the ferry to DTD and the LBV Golf Course.

5 for WDW and mjf,

Which Grandstand building / room were you in and how was the view?

We're heading down on 1/23 for 8 days at SSR. We've always stayed at CP but have heard great things about GS.

Many thanks!!

We're looking for info on this, too. How far of a walk is Check-In from The Grandstand section?

I cannot, for the life of me, remember our room number. But, we were the building right at the Grandstand pool. The elevators faced the pool entrance. I can't find a map but I am sure you could figure out the building number if you could find one. The view was fine. We overlooked the parking area and the golf course. It wasn't a terrible view but, I really don't care about that either way.
I know I wasn't much help

We were really pleased with the location!!

3-4 minutes tops with three kids. :thumbsup2

Not an issue at all. We walked back and forth to the main pool and building at least once a day. No complaints at all. The resort size was really not a problem for us. My DD is only 4 and she walked all around the resort with us without a stroller.

We really thought it was the perfect location.

GRANDSTAND!!! It was awesome!! I will request it again, everytime! I can't remember the room I was in but I did end up walking the whole bldg the first day so it seemed anywhere would be great. What an awesome "quiet" pool!
