Where is the best place to be at OKW. I would like to request a building that is close to the main pool. My kids will probably want to spend most of the time there.

You need to ask for a Hospitality House reservation. This is a new type of ressie. It does not cost any extra points but it helps DVC regulate these sought after locations at the time you make your reservation. I believe they include buildings 11 thru 14 and 22 thru 26. Plus you can request 62,63,64. These buildings have elevators for those who need them but are available for others as well. We have stayed in bldg 64 and 23 and loved both!:thumbsup2

The "best location" depends on what is important to you. Do you want to be near all the "action" around the main pool/Olivia's/General Store? Or would you rather be in a quiet location but have a pool nearby? Will you have a car? Or is proximity to a bus stop important?

I think I would like to be near all of the action. We will not have a car.
Also, I read somewhere that there is basketball and shuffleboard at OKW. Is this true?

We've been OKW owners for 11 years.

In our experience, the best location at OKW is the villa we're in!

Is it possible to be near HH.....but still have a quiet location?
Thanks
Kerri

If you can't (or don't want to) book HH, we loved Building #15. It was very convenient to the HH, yet very quiet. On the downside, it wasn't the closest to a bus stop, nor was parking the best. But to us, it was the best building-so far!

The Peninsular Road section is a short walk to the Hospitality House. They include #'s 23-29, with 23 being the closest. I've stayed in bldg. 27. Not a bad walk but don't forget anything ;)

Buildings 11, 12, 13, 14, 23, 24, 25, and 26 are all part of the "near Hospitality House" booking catagory and must be specifically booked just like Boardwalk view at BWV. If you can't get a HH booking catagory room, you can request "near a bus stop", and that will mean you are only as far as the bus stop from the main pool, since all buses stop at HH before leaving the resort. Also, there are 3 smaller pools and playgrounds available at Turtle Pond, Miller's Road, and South Point. Our favorite area is South Point, because of the quiet and wonderful views. We also like that it is the second bus stop when coming back into the resort. That makes it an early off when you come back from a late night at the parks.

Yes, the shuffle board, basketball and tennis courts are also available. They are all at HH, but there is another tennis court at Turtle Pond area too. Here is a map so you can see where things are. As a reference, the walk from the South Point bus stop to HH is about 8-9 minutes.

If you want to be close to the main pool, ask for the Hospitality House area.

OKW has basically 4 areas: Hospitality House, Millers Road, Turtle Pond and Southpoint.

My personal favorite is Southpoint. Close to a bus stop, a quiet pool, and the walking path to SSR & DTD, but far away from the noise and hoopla of the Hospitality House area.

My second favorite is Turtle Pond. Same amenities as Southpoint except for proximity to the walking path.

Thank you all so much for your help. But now I am more confused. All the areas sound so nice I don't know which to request.

The Turtle Pond area has a really nice quiet pool and a little playground for the kids. It also had a snack bar for food, well it did the last time I was here which was a few years ago.

This is our favorite area as well. We often request building 35 which is a short walk to the pool (but you don't have to compete for parking spots with the pool goers) and is directly across the road from the bus stop (but gets none of the bus noise).

We almost always stay near the Turtle pond quiet pool. If the kids want to go to the main pool for the slide, we just hop on the first bus that comes. To get back, we walk across to the bus stop on Penninsular and catch the first bus there, since it will stop at all the other bus stops.

Do like we do and don't request a location. We always just "take what we get", and it's always been fine. I do have a couple of buildings I'm not fond of, but my preferences might not match yours for the same reasons.

I do agree with an earlier poster that 15 is a very good choice. Our favorite is probably 46, but 15, 55, 46 and 20 are close to our ideal too, and the only buildings I have stayed in that I didn't care much for were all in the Turtle Pond area, so you see, one persons dream is another's nightmare!

We are going in October and did not make any requests. We will have a car, but prefer to use Disney transportation to most parks. It'll be our first time staying at OKW. It sounds like there are plenty of people who like the HH area, Turtle Pond area and the South Pointe area. Didn't hear much about the Miller's Road area. Is that the least desirable area? Does the bus stop 1st at HH and then again last? There is so much to learn on these boards!!!!!!!

Not necessarily! We love the views from there! The only caviot there is that there is no extra door to the toilet through the laundry room if you should have someone staying in the living room.

The bathroom through the laundry is for 1 BDRs above BLDG #30 I believe. If you want near the main pool, book HH. People get confused because all areas are good. To each their own. Quiet, water view, HH. Pick your preference and ask for that when you book. HH is a booking option, The others are just a request.

We always have our own vehicle so we love Southpoint and Turtle Pond. We just spent spring break in #55 which has the most beautiful water view in back -- the ferry went right by our room.

One of the prettiest buildings I have stayed in is #35. It is set back from the road so it is quiet. Its a big building with tons of parking out front and the path leading up to the rooms has trees growing over it -- gorgeous! It is close to Turtle Pond Pool (love it) and there is a big lake out back, usuallly full of ducks. It is also pretty much right across the street from the Turtle Pond bus stop. Heaven!
