We're planning a trip for late Feb '09 and will be traveling with toddlers. Since we'll be back and forth to the hotel many times for naps each day, a short walk is key.

What off-resort hotels are best to stay at to minimize the walk?

Best to stay right across the street. I'd look in to the Tropicana, Best Western Park Place Inn, or the Desert Inn and Suites.

We like the Tropicana. Nice clean rooms, nice pool area. Small free breakfast, nothing special, but does the job. But the location is what draws us there mostly. You are just right there. Cross the street and your at DL!

I'll look tomorrow and right them down, then you can search them online and see what they offer.

I did like the Best Western Park Place Inn, we stayed there a couple of years ago. Very short walk, actually I was reading in one of the travel books and it has the shortest walk of all the Hotels/Motels.

We have stayed at the Desert Inn for the last 7 years and will be heading there again in 28 days. They are nothing fancy but they offer reasonable rates, have ample space and are a close walking distance to the park. They work just fine for us since we don't plan on spending lots of time in our rooms. All we need are a basic clean room to shower and sleep.

We have stayed at the Best Western, Desert Inn (2), and Camelot (2) (also HOJOS twice, but it is a little further).

We are trying out the Tropicana for the first time this trip.

We would stay at any of those hotels again. Nothing fancy - but seem safe and clean.

Best Western Park Place Inn and the Park Vue are the closest to the main entrance. We always do the Park Vue and its fine for the price (we always pay around $90/night)....with a decent enough free breakfast to last us until an early lunch.

We've stayed there a couple of times. My husband is a "big breakfast" junkie (the kid and I are not) and he likes that Denny's is right there! He gets breakfast while we are doing the wake-up-and-shower thing, and then my son and I get churros and fruit in the park when we get hungry.

The fairfield inn is great! It is right across the street...And they have a pizza hut(very convenient), and a pool/hottub(The kids will love that!) :cloud9:

Very short walk!

Yep, Desert Inn's breakfast is nothing to get real excited about but it has always worked for us because we are not big breakfast eaters. Denney's is very handy for take out on the way back in from the park!

OK. So, I drove up and down Harbor Blvd tonight on my way home from DL. Where all the shuttles pick up and drop off there is a crosswalk to get to the hotels. The closest hotels to the crosswalk are: Best Western Park Place Inn and Tropicana.
If you look at the website below, everything from Camelot Inn to Ramada Maingate are very quick walks. HoJo seems far to me, but then again, you can walk from the back of DCA to the back of DL in under 20 minutes. I walked the 5K thru both parks in 45 mins and that took us the long way thru.
Del Sol Inn is close, Denny's is just in it's parking lot.
Candy Cane Inn and Desert Palm are quick cuz they r on the same side of the street and they have a great souvenir store next to them that I sometimes like to check out.
Everything here is really close. I mean I live 38 miles away and I can get to DL in 20 minutes if I play my cards right. I hope this helped.
I would stick to the ones that border the parks. Harbor Blvd and Katella Ave hotels are the best and seem to look the nicest from the outside and are well lit.
Have fun. Hope to see you here!;)

just got back from our 1st family trip...we stayed at the tropicana. it was clean. the room was a bit small...pillows were flat! but we loved that they had a mini fridge and microwave...and that there was a mini-mart right downstairs. we always made a quick stop there to get some snacks for the hotel room after a long day at the park. the breakfast was okay...they had oranges, muffins, and danishes, coffee and orange juice. you could get bagels/cream cheese, bottled water, soda, bottled juice/milk, cereal for somewhere between $1 - $2 extra.

i'd recommend staying there...oh, and you definitely can't beat the location! :thumbsup2
