I know there are lots of suggestions for bags to use at WDW. In fact I have the Bagallinni and a Vera Bradley Hipster I used on my trip last year. I was wandering if these would be good for a 2 day trip to New York City. I have a Le Sportsac Everyday bag I am thinking of using. The only problem I have with using a smaller crossbody, is my camera takes up ALL the room. Should I use a bigger handbag to store small purchases or take a shopping bag that can be stored until I need it?

Before my first trip to NYC last summer, I bought a Fossil hipster style crossbody purse. It's a bit bigger than the Vera Bradley hipster (I have one of those too for WDW), and it had a lot more compartments. It had one zippered area for credit cards, ID, and cash, change and such. I don't know what type camera you have, but this is what I carried in my purse for our 4 day stay (one day I had ALL of this at once):

purse size umbrella
cell phone
camera (Canon Powershot SD800)
small binoculars (for views from Top of the Rock)
hand sanitizer
small guidebook
map

This is in addition to money, lipstick, & other things that don't take up much room.

I saw a lot of women with really big bags, though. I think more of the locals carry big bags, because they walk everywhere. Downtown in the Wall Street area, we saw women in suits with tennis shoes. They all had big bags. I'm assuming they're carrying dress shoes in addition to their work stuff.

Enjoy your trip! I loved NY & can't wait to go back!

This is what I did for two recent trips to NYC and a recent trip to London and Paris. I have a big French Connection bag that I carried EVERYTHING in. I also had an umbrella and change of shoes in NYC. In London and Paris, I didn't carry shoes but instead had a jacket in my bag!

Here's a pic of the bag I carried (but mine is grey)

I am SO happy to see BIG bags coming back in style. I want to carry everything with me to "be prepared" so I am definately a fan of a big bag!
