What, in your opinion, would be the best guide book to get for my ds to plan his first trip to wdw? He will be 9.

For a kid, probably Birnbaum's guide for kids. The Unofficial Guide is the best in my opinion, but it's a bit much for a 9 year old.

My 8 year old obsesses over both our Birnbaum's Walt Disney World (not the kid's version) and The Unofficial Guide: The Color Companion to Walt Disney World. Both have fun sections and a lot of pictures. In particular, she really likes to read the ride descriptions over and over as well as plot out our days using the Florida, Disney World Resort, and individual park maps. She looks at these so much, I've ended up buying them each year because they end up destroyed from so much use. Hope this helps!

Another vote for the Unofficial Guide (the big fat regular addition, just make sure to get a current one)! I read quite a few of them for my family's first trip and all of the rest seemed incomplete after reading the Unofficial Guide. It addresses EVERYTHING!

For a 9 y/o I would suggest Birnbaums (the regular version) and Passporter!! Both are excellent resources for kids AND their parents.

Thanks for the replies.

I picked up the 2014 Unofficial guide at the library today. He'll enjoy reading about the attractions but I still want to get a version with pictures for him.

I wish the ones suggested above were eligible for Amazon Prime!

^^^^^ I whole-heartedly agree. My boys were 5, 7, & 9 when we went last Fall. The 9 y.o. Read it cover-to-cover. They loved going home after the parks and putting their stickers on the rides and writing their "notes" about them. The back pages are blank for autographs, although one of my boys used his as a passport of sorts for the Epcot world showcase. Highly, highly recommend!
