best functional souvenier?

Just back from our first trip to WDW and loved it! For myself, I had a ball making a charm bracelet. I first saw the charm display at the shop outside of Pirates on our first day. I kept thinking about it and that night when we ate dinner at the Poly, I saw the charms there too, so I decided to start one. I bought the bracelet and four charms to begin with. I got my three kids favorite characters and the castle charm since we had just finished watching Wishes from O'hana and thought it was beautiful. After that, I bought a charm to represent each thing we did on our trip...the magic hat for MGM, the ball for Epcot, a Blizzard Beach charm, the Animal Kingdom charm, Ariel (my personal favorite princess) and one from the Boardwalk hotel where we stayed. I have been wearing it everyday since we got home and it keeps me in that "magical place".

I did the same thing on our last trip! In 2003, I would always stop at the charm kiosks and tell my husband how cute I thought they were. But, when he told me to buy a bracelet and some charms, I would tell him that it would be silly, because where would I wear it other than at WDW? So, last year, when I started to ooh and ahh over the charms again, DH practically forced me to buy one. And, you know what? I wear it every day and I absolutely love it! I bought charms to represent all the parks, one for POR, a Tinkerbell, and Cinderella's coach charm. Every time I look at it, I think of Disney, which is a very good thing. I can't wait to go back in May so I can buy more charms!

My favorite practical souvenir is all the refillable mugs from the resorts. I use one every day and take my mug of water with me everywhere I go.

Another good functional souvenir for kids and teens is the leather bracelets they make in Canada. They stamp the person's name and you get to pick 2 rivet charms to decorate it with. DD got one a few years ago and still wears it.

You see, my father is well... a bit goofy. So we go to WDW so much b/c my mother tries to exchange him for something else. Disney says they don't want to keep him so we have to bring him back with us everytime. What is he functional for? We're still really trying to figure that out but he is willing to pay for everything :-D. hehehehe.....

Now on a more serious note, if you are into scrapbooking at all there is a store at DTD called Wonderful World of Memories, it is right next to the Art of Disney store and they have a ton of scrapbooking stuff to preserve memories. After all that is what Disney is all about.

I am using my favorite souvenier from my last trip right now! I bought a set of 4 wine glasses with Mickey heads etched/stamped in them. At $8 each, they are a great buy!!!

I do like the salt and pepper shaker idea; I will definitely look into that one on our next trip. And since we are putting in a pool (excavatiuon starts in 2 weeks), the beach towel idea is primo! I will definitely pick up some towels on our next trip.

We go to Disneyland every year so the shopping opportunties are a bit more limited... but I adore my Tinkerbell coffee mug- use it every day.
Tinkerbell earrings, Tinkerbell keychain with the castle on it too, and a few bracelets with Tink and another with mickey, minnie, goofy, pluto, donald on it--- the bracelets are made for child's wrist (it almost fits on my tiny wrist) but I added a small add-a-chain and they fit very nicely.. soo cute!

From the Disney Store I have several pair of Tinkerbell socks- I have noticed them in the parks too- I wear them nearly every day. My preschoolers like to see what pose Tink is in and check my socks every day at circle time LOL


I also put on some of my pins from the park depending on the theme of the week in the preschool room. The children enjoy seeing them and I get to take them out of the pin bags and have that special rush remebering when we got the pin/ traded for it.

Mine would have to be the umbrella with Mickey ears that I bought back in '97 when we went to WDW. I'm still using it! I love the looks I get from kids in the parking lots when I use it too.

I have found that the most useful souvenir that I have purchased from WDW are the $10 umbrellas that the Cast Members drag out from the shops when it begins to rain. I use mine all the time!!

Does anywhere at DisneyWorld sell Italian Charms for the Italian Charm Bracelets? I just got one for my birthday and would love to put some charms from my disney trip on it.

The Italian Charms are sold at the World of Disney Store at DTD. They are $4 or $5 for the inexpensive ones and about $25 for the higher quality ones. I have some of both and both wear very well.

WDW Tee-shirts. We still wear our 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. The 2000 tee-shirts are just now showing there age. I will hate to turn them into cleaning rags but another good reason to buy new ones. Hee Hee

ACK!!! Don't turn them into cleaning rags!!! We haven't been to WDW yet, so we haven't gotten any souvenir shirts from there, but we went through the same thing with our ds14's little league baseball shirts, elementary school spirit shirts, etc. Well, thankfully, my mother loves to watch craft shows. We cut the shirts up: we used the whole backs off some, the whole fronts off some, just the numbers off some and just the logos off some, etc... We sewed them together to make a memory quilt. It hung on his wall until this year when the theme in his bedroom changed from sports to a more gothic midevil dragons and weapons type theme... Now it is packed safely away in the attic. I can't wait to get started on my younger ds11's. He's still got one more year of little league and elementary school left. The theme in his room is fishing though.....he's sentimental enough to want it on his bed though...

Thanks Phil, I got it from my mom who got it from a crafting show (probably Carol Duvall on HGTV she's her Hero)... I just can't wait til my family and I have amassed enough WDW souvenir tshirts to do the same thing!!

It's so basic, but I love writing my grocery list, paying bills, etc. with my Disney pen. It's just a basic $4 model but is still fun. Cheap, and doesn't take up much space either!

i heard about something called pal mickey-he tells jokes,has interactive games, tells you (when in parks) showtimes and fastpass locations! (by the way its a stuffed animal too). Its $60.00

I bought a cake/pie server at the Norway pavillion and we use it all the time. It has the viking emblems/logos on the handle and a cutting edge, so you can cut and serve. It reminds us of our trip to Disney.

I told my husband that I want to get each member of the family a new t-shirt and sweatshirt on our upcoming WDW trip and he asked, "why?" My response, "Because our old Disney clothes seem to be the only things we ever wear!" It's hard to find a day when at least one member of the family isn't wearing a piece of clothing with a Disney character on it! LOL

I do love Disney watches also, though. And could really use another big thermal mug. Oh, and my son dropped my Winnie the Pooh cookie jar, so a new cookie jar wouldn't go amiss.
