Hello. New to this part of the board (DLRP side is my usual stomping ground!)

Anyway. Me and a friend are planning to go for the first time next year. Was just wondering which would be the best hotel to stay at?

It needs to be a disney one (rather obvious mabe), be close to the parks and be rather up market (well not too swanky as we are going on to new york straight after we leave the magic of Disney)

thanks! :goodvibes

I would stay at the Grand Californian hotel, it's right in DCA park, it's the closest Disney hotel to the parks.

The Grand Californian is wonderful! If you would like I can post some pics.

It's actually not that obvious because there are a handful of hotels that are closer to the parks than two of the three Disney hotels, and, when given the question on or offsite, on these boards, most people would say offsite because it is so much cheaper. However, you won't find a nice nice hotel within walking distance except for the Grand Californian. Can't get much closer than inside one of the parks.

Another vote for GCH. There are close motels that are offsite. But they are motels, nothing up market! They are nice, and good for a budget trip! But if you want something a little more upscale and close, can't go wrong at all with GCH!

We had a room that overlooked Downtown Disney and it was wonderful. Every night there was a violinist outside, it was nice just to sit on the balcony and listen

But now i feel bad for wasting your time because while i was talking about going to Disney in California my friend thought this was Disney World! :rotfl2:

So now shes set her sights on going to Disney World after my spending a VERY long time explaning to her that they were two completely different resorts.

So thank you for your help. And sorry for the my friends lack of Disney knowledge and her sheer stubborn-ness!

KnJ where is the bar in the hotel? Is it open to people not staying at the hotel? It looks cool and I have never been there.

The bar IS open to anyone - that one anyway, not sure if there is another. From the check-in lobby, walk the opposite direction past the sitting area with fireplace - it would be on your right side as you walk.
