Over the weekend I got an e-mail saying that one of the people I work with had lost all of her son's belongings in an electrical fire to his bedroom. Any donations are being graciously accepted, and I want to help. The little boy wears clothes size 6/7. Any ideas where I can go this week, and get this little boy some clothes for a good price?

Kohls is usually a good bet, especially if you have a Kohls charge so you can take advantage of their extra % off. Target has cute kids clothes also.

They may be getting lots of hand-me downs from folks with kids. May I suggest you consider a toy or something for his soon to be new bedroom...something that isn't as apt to be handed down?

I definitely planned on a new toy as well. I was just trying to get a sense of good deals on clothes. As far as the toy goes I was thinking of getting him a gift card to go get whatever he wanted.

Maybe try a consignment store in your area. Almost all my son's clothes are from consignment sales and stores. Kids grow so quickly that they hardly ever wear out clothing.

Maybe sock and underwear too as most people do not hand those down. I like JCPenny for my 5 year old that wears that same size. I just got him some new shorts for kindergarten for 5.00, and some shirts for like 3.00. Children's place also has some good deals right now.

We had a fire due to an electrical issue, but we lost the whole house. :( Some of the items we needed right away were socks, undies, pj's, hairbrush, toothbrush, shoes....things that you take for granted day by day. does the family have insurance? If so they should get a check fairly quickly from the ins. company. When we had our fire they brought us a check the day we met with the adjustor so we could replace those things.

Check Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl's, I've seen some good clearance deals at Target recently.

I like children's place though he may be too old for that. Coupons can often be googled and combined with sales. Dd has to have shorts that go to her knees to be in dress code for school and I got them for about 4$ per pair after sales and coupons and cute tshirts for 3$ and nice jeans for 8$ per pair, but she is 5

Children's Place, especially if you have an outlet nearby. Print off a coupon online too.

I think I would probably just offer a target giftcard. Every brand of clothes fits children differently and what size they wear at one store may not fit with another store's brand. I'm sure the last thing they want to do is run all over town trying to exchange sizes or return clothes that don't fit right.

Plus the gift card allows them to buy what they don't get donated. He may get a ton of clothes, but no sheets or comforter. This allows them to buy what they need.

If you do decide to go with clothes, try to find shorts or pants with an elastic waistband or drawstring.

JC Penny

I was buying my daughter and a friend's daugher PJ's this weekend. They were super cheap $5 for Carter's 3 piece sets. I noticed but did not buy tons of t-shirts in the $2-$4 range. They had a good amount of boys stuff.

Also Old Navy has $10 kids jeans at the moment I believe.

You can also just put up a note on craigslist--someone may sell you a whole seasons clothes for $30 or $40. I often see listings like that in my area.

I was thinking the exact thing about a gift card somewhere for her to buy what she wanted to buy for him.

i take it you have never had a 4/5yr old boy lol my son rips all his jeans, goes through shoes in less than 2 months. Hes so rough on clothes!

Anyway i just did pretty good at target online for my kids. Childrens place has $5 graphic tees and a few places have $10 jeans.

Crazy 8 has some pretty good deals right now, Children's Place, too.

I will say you got some great ideas , but i will add one more what ever store you choose to go into ask for a manager and explain what you are doing and i'm not saying all managers will have a heart but there might be a few to give an extra discount or they might have some clothes with a slight damage they might offer ??
good luck I helped a family once that lost there house to a fire it if not nice but it Takes magical :wizard: people like you to put a smile on there faces :thumbsup2

I know the WalMarts in my area have shirts marked down as low as $1 so you may want to try there as well. I bought 2 shirts from my DH, 6 shirts and 2 pairs of shorts for DS and only spent $17 bucks.

Old Navy has their kid's jeans on sale for $10 and they have lots of T's on clearance for around $5.
