DH & I would like to get a new credit card to use jointly. We used our Disney card for a long time but the return (points) seems low for what we spend on it.

I know there is a whole credit card thread but I got lost trying to follow.

We don't fly much so no need for miles. I'm thinking a cash back card is the way to go. We do shop amazon a ton so was thinking about their card.

Any suggestions. We have good credit.

Discover IT card is cool, revolving 5% cash back. Plus at the end of your first year they match your cash back for the year. Right now it's on groceries. Excludes Walmart and Target.

If you want to keep it simple and focus on cashback my first recommendation is 2 cards: a 5% rotating categories credit card and a 2% cashback card for everything else. Ideally you'll pick cards that will also get you a sign-up bonus. You could also do just the 5% rotating category card and get 1% back on all other purchases if you only want to have 1 card. If you don't like the idea of dealing with activating your bonus category every quarter you could go with just the 2% cashback card. To my knowledge 5% rotating category cards include the Discover mentioned above, Chase Freedom & Citi Dividend. 2% cashback cards include Citi Double Cash and Fidelity 2%. None of these cards have annual fees.

Do grocery stores include Sams, Costco, BJ's?

While several of Discover’s 2019 categories are the same as those from 2018, the major item that stands out is the absence of wholesale clubs – which Discover offered during the first and fourth quarters of 2018. But if you frequently use ride-sharing services, you can come out on top during 2019: Discover added Lyft and Uber as new bonus categories for the second quarter.

What is included/excluded in the “grocery stores” category?
The “grocery stores” category excludes purchases made at convenience stores, gas stations, wholesale clubs, supercenters, discount stores and any grocery stores associated with supercenters or discount stores. Purchases made using tap-and-pay, mobile or wireless card readers, virtual wallets or similar technology also may not be eligible.

So it looks like no, they are NOT included towards cash back. But in 2018 they were included in a quarterly category. No idea if they will offer that again.
