Ok, Here's the thing.

Family and I (2 adults & 2 kids ages 11 and 10) are heading to sunny Florida in May 2007 and we are going to be staying offsite. We are planning to rent a condo (probably will only need a 2 bedroom) and I was wondering who out there has some suggestions where would be a good place to look?

I have already investigated Windsor Hills and Windsor Palms and they both seem to be reasonable places (opinions on these locations are welcome). I was wondering if there are any other "resort" type spots out there that are also nice that I should be considering. We don't need fancy-schmancy... just clean.

I think Orange Lake Country Club would be perfect.....

We have been there the past 10 yrs and now that all the kids are older we can't take them out of school for Thanksgiving anymore... college thing....

So now we are going on vacations all togather during the summer...

Anyway back to OLCC... there is alot to do there so check it out....

They have a web site...

check out Cypress Point through Hotel Kingdom. If you do a search you will see lots of us have stayed there and have really enjoyed it. You can't beat it for price and location.

I was going to suggest Cypress Pointe too. If you want to rent direct from an owner then you might try Emerald Island.

I was going to recommend Windsor Hills. For clean and cheap I recommend holiday villas kissimmees ie laguna bay. Large spacious full kitchens clean and v close to wdw and walmart.

We have stayed at Visatana and Own at Cypress Pointe. Visatana is nice, but you will pay more. Cypress Pointe is a short 1 mile away. Take a left out of DTD entrance. Go Three lights and take a right. Cypress Pointe is right there. There are two phases. Each has it's own pool. They were in the process of converting to a gated security setup. The rooms are clean and well appointed. I love the master suite in the 2/3 bedroom units. They have a great jacuzzi tub.

Just don't buy your food supplies at their convience store in phase II. We would usually take a run to the Super Walmart for our food shopping.

Feel free to ask any questions.

From one Maritimer to another, try Cypress Pointe! We split our recent Orlando stay between a 2 b.r. at Cypress Pointe and on-site (Old Key West, this time).

We loved Cypress Pointe so much that we've made a decision to stay there again on our next trip to The World, and forget about staying on-site.

Until this trip, we've always stayed only on-site while in Orlando, believing that the ease of Disney transportation made this a very sensible choice.

Much as I love the WDW properties, our stay at Cypress Pointe convinced us that we really love the extra space - and it's so close (maybe 1 mile away from DTD), that driving to and from the Parks was no problem, and no effort.

My only disappointment with Cypress Pointe (we stayed in the older part) was the second bedroom - it was very small, and had two single beds, one being a trundle. The kids preferred that, however, to one of them sleeping on the pull-out sofa in the living room.

Cypress Pointe has a great pool and the sister property - only a few steps away - has a great little convenience store to buy necessities and snacks.

Just wanted to add that we paid only $93 US plus taxes for Cypress Pointe. Also, it's well decorated - has nice furnishings and decorations, plenty of linens, a great washer and dryer in your unit - it's definitely a wonderful place to stay!

If you stay at CP-Grand Villas (as opposed to CP-Resort) you get two twin beds in the 2nd bedroom. Cute boat theme too! The prices are the same on hotelkingdom.

We are another family that has loved our stays at Cypress Pointe, especially the giant master bath, large screen tv, and functional kitchen. The location is great---you can take a back road and get to MK faster as well. :sunny:

I would also like to suggest Regal Palms if you are planning a day or two just to relax at the pool. We have stayed here a couple of times already - through a private owner - and have had a wonderful time. You can see the resort at www.regalpalmsorlando.com. The pool complex is amazing and there is a wonderful lazy river.

I have three kids ages 5,7 and 9 and they just loved it. It is a little further out from Disney, (15-20 min) but at the time of year you are going, there shouldn't be a problem getting to the parks. (We usually go over President's Week when it is crowded and even then we get to the parks so early that it has never really been a problem for us.

The townhouses themselves are very basic. But we rent a 4 bedroom for $110 a night including all the taxes. There are two master bedrooms with queens, full kitchen (kinda small), living/dining area, two bedrooms with twins and 3 1/2 bathrooms.

If you are interested, I would suggest renting through a private owner since some of the negative reviews on Tripadvisor have been from people that rented directly through the resort. You can PM me and I'd be happy to give you the name of the person we rent through.

We have stayed at several resorts over the years in Orlando including Cypress Point...which is close to Disney and very nice. But the pool complex at Regal Palms is so nice that my kids ask to stay there every trip now.

Happy planning.

I haven't stayed at any of the above mentioned places, but last November, just after Thanksgiving, I needed a place cause I had rented out my BWV DVC ressie to a friend.

I went to skyauction and bid $150 for a certificate for a getaway week...which is RCI's unbooked exchange weeks. There are lots of them in Kissimee/Disney area. Just not during the summer!!!!

I asked on the DIS and got rec's of the top ones to try. There was a 2 bd at Vacation Village at the Parkway. This is also about a mile from Disney (opposite the Arabian Nights ) Straight out world drive, cross I-4 and just on the left) The 2 bdroom unit was actually two one bedrooms with a central foyer. The bigger 1 bdroom had a huge kitchen, a huge big screen in the lr, a jacuzzi, a king bed in a lg bed, a huge bathroom, w/d and balcony. The other side was somewhat smaller, an 'efficiency kitchen' , a queen in the bd, another living room, one standard bath (tho it also had a w/d) and a balcony.
It was clean and nicely furnished. Didn't use the pool or the activities (i was busy with mousefest activities) but it was great and only cost $150for the week!!!!!!

Don't spread this little secret around ok? The only drawback is that availability is more during the off season. May can be off season early on in the month.

My girlfriend just used my last certificate on Barefoot in the Park..a one bedroom but for August 5...high season.

Sky Auction also seems to offer Vistana and VV at Parkway for certain weeks 'on bid'. Just remember that with those, you pay a $195 tax and service in addition to your bid.

Tell me about the back road!! :cheer2:

We stayed at Windsor Hills and Cypress Pointe Grand Villas in May and our entire family agreed that WH was the nicer of the 2. It may be 1/2 mile further than CP but it actually takes less time to get to the theme parks because you only encounter 2 lights til you get to the entrance for the parks. When you stay at CP you have tons of traffic (including many resort buses) and lights to go through! Also WH is newer so it was much cleaner and quiet too! My kids loved the poll at WH better than the one at CP, especially my 3 1/2 y.o. because it had the zero-entry part of the poll and my 7 y.o. ds loved the twisty waterslide! Hope this helps!
