So, we will be at DL Feb25 - Mar1, and we are thinking of doing one character meal.
For a child who is into the traditional disney characters what would be the best one to do? In the past we did the storytellers and Goofy's kitchen.
We were disapointed with Goofy's kitchen becasue they only had like two or three characters when we were there.

Should be do it on the weekend? For a specific meal?
All suggestions are welcome. I want to give DD the "magic" if I can.

Thanks.

The Minnie & Friends breakfast at the Plaza Inn is where you will find more of the classic characters. We've seen Minnie, Fairy Godmother, Pooh, Eeyore, Max (Goofy's son), Chip, Dale & a few others. We're not thrilled with the buffet (but everyone differs on the food here). This is a great character meal for character interaction.
We've always enjoyed Goofy's Kitchen. We've seen numerous characters, so was sorry to read that you only saw 3. When we've gone, we've seen Goofy, Pluto, Minnie, Baloo, Max, Jasmine & Aladdin, Mad Hatter, Brer Fox, etc.
The Princess lunch/dinner at Ariels Grotto the Princesses are introduced & come by your table (only once). We saw Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine & of course Ariel.
We've never done the Lilo-n-Stitch or the Chip-n-Dale meals, so don't have any clue who the regulars are.
Hope that helps......
Have a great trip!!

Thank you.
I wonder if going "off season" is the reason we haven't see too many.
We where there in October.
This time we are there "off season" again.

Goofy's Kitchen has been my favorite DLR restaurant for 17 years (if you check out my Trip Report - the link is in my signature below - which also includes lots of pictures from many DLR trips over the years, you will see a lot of stuff from Goofy's Kitchen going back to 1992 and up to 2008), but I understand that I have been lucky with my experiences there. I have only had a couple of off days at Goofy's in all these years. A few other folks on the DIS were not satisfied with their Goofy's experience because they felt the character interaction was lacking, or there were not too many characters around. I think it all depends on what you require from a character meal. For some folks, they require equal parts good food and good character mingling. Others are paying the big bucks to eat there mainly to hob-knob with characters and the food is secondary. Others want the best meal possible. And it does depend a LOT on whether you have kids with you, too, and what they like. I don't have kids, so whatever my requirements and my friends' requirements have been for a character meal have been met at Goofy's. But I always say that since it IS a lot of money to spend, if you have had an experience there that you weren't satisfied with, you may want to just try a different character meal next time and not risk wasting your money again on something you don't feel is worth it. Unless you know for sure that you like or will like a certain character meal, it is a LOT of money to take a gamble on. You might as well go someplace new and maybe have a better experience. I happen to also love the food there, both in variety and quality, and I am satisfied with the characters, but it is not for everyone.

The 'regular' characters there are Goofy, Baloo, Pluto and Chip and Dale. They are always there. Then there is a revolving cast of characters which include Belle, Alice and the Mad Hatter, Aurora and the Prince, Jasmine and Aladdin, etc. They seem to alternate days. One day might be an Alice/Mad Hatter day and the next might be a Jasmine and Aurora/Prince day. You never know for sure. (In my Trip Report, you can see that Goofy's has had all kinds of characters over the years, depending on what was popular at those times.) Sometimes not all of those characters are out and about at the earlier seatings in the morning, and you have to wait and hour or 2 before the rest of them show up. Also, the slower it is in the restaurant, the fewer characters there seem to be. So if it is a slow period in the morning (or the off-peak season), you may only see Goofy, Baloo, Pluto and Chip and Dale, but as the day progresses and dinner rolls around (when it is really busy), you may see more characters. I much prefer the Goofy's breakfast/brunch over dinner, so I just deal with whatever characters there are then, but you may see more if you go at dinner.

The Storytellers Cafe meal with Chip and Dale is breakfast only, but it also allows you to order from the menu if you don't want buffet. In addition to Chip and Dale, you will see Koda and Kenai from Brother Bear, often times Meeko from Pocahontas and sometimes Rafiki from Lion King. I think Baloo sometimes makes an appearance - it is basically as many of the 'woodsy' or 'jungly' Disney characters they can scrounge up, but the only regulars that I know of for sure are Chip, Dale, Koda and Kenai.

Lilo and Stitch is one I have not been to yet, but it seems to be very popular among the DIS'ers here. You may want to try that. And Minnie's seems to have a great selection of characters - and a lot of them - so that may be the best option. WazowskiLOVER's Trip Report (The Wazowski Report) features a lot of her pictures taken at Minnie's, so you should check it out!! And Princess fans really love Ariel's!

Our favorites are Minnie & Friends breakfast and Ariel's Grotto lunch or dinner. :) We had the same negative experience at GK that you did. We won't go back.....

We've done Goofy's and Minnies Plaza Inn....I LOVED Plaza Inn!!!! We had so much fun with the characters.

We've done all meals, liked Goofy's Kitchen best and Minnie's least.

Minnie had the worst character interaction for us and it was the only meal where we got skipped by characters, even after I informed CMs.
Also it was the meal during our last trip where we saw the least amount of characters. Only Lilo and Stitch two years ago had less (Lilo, Stitch, Pluto and Daisy). The food was nothing to write home about either.

Goofy's was great. They went out of their way for me after I injured my foot and was hopping around on crutches. One CM even helped us cut the "table cloth" so I could take home the messages Chip wrote for me for my scrap book. :thumbsup2
I'm really not sure what happened when you saw only two characters. We had one of the very last brunch seatings on a weekday (it was us and one other party in the end) and we still saw six characters.

I'd probably go with Ariel's if you haven't done that one yet.
The food has greatly improved there with the new menu. Even my picky room mate (who usually runs away as soon as a princess gets near her) has indicated that she's willing to do the meal again because of the food. :rotfl:

OP we will be there the same time as you. "See you there"!

Here is our preference of choice, based on character interaction, food selection and past experience.

1. Lilo and Stitch - I can sum it up with 2 words... "Coconut scones" Yum.
This has never been crowded location and we generally do it on our drive home day and even pocket some of the scones for the drive home. (eez that sounds bad.) Lots of character interaction, very easy for the kids to get out and about with the characters and great opportunities for pictures. (Not lots of tables or booths that lock you in to a small area). In the past they had games for the kids to play. Island Food, of course I don't remember seeing Spam.

2. Goofy's kitchen - Lots of characters, but you could hit it during a shift rotation or if it is crowded it is a big place, so you might be up and about when a character is in your area. Food has always been good and I think the only place were you can get Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with a character experience. Dancing with the kids and characters is fun Can be very crowed at times.

3. Storytellers - I haven't been here in a while. This one probably had the least characters, but the food was so good. California style food, yeah who else has aspargaus and spinach for breakfast (I love it). Table very close together and made it hard to move around

4 (Tie) Ariels - Princesses.. haven't been here in a couple of years, but the food was terrible at that time, the princesses seemed to race through the tables. If you hit it wrong, you could miss seeing characters, unless you waited until the next round of the princesses racing through.

5. (tie) Minnie and Friends - Food was terrible, You had to manage your own drink, silverware and food all on one tray and then try to get through the crowd of people. Lots of characters, but this tended to be crowded and so it was hard to get interaction with the characters.
(Only one in the park, so this is a plus for most people. If time is important, than probably would suggest this one).

We have only experienced Goofy's Kitchen Dinner and Ariels Grotto Lunch (Nov 08) which we priority booked a time to be sure of reservations.
At the Dinner it was very busy but Goofy, Mulan, Gusieppe, Pluto, Minnie were there and each came by our area of the dining room/to our table. Our son was up dancing and making a noice with Goofy. The food was pretty good and we got plenty interaction. (easy to feed everyone here too with a good buffet selection).
At the Princess Lunch the food was very good (not as much for my son but he is picky and my daughter is not) and Ariel, Belle, Aurora, Cinderella and Snow White each stopped at our table which was the highlight for our two kids. We had seen Belle earlier and she remembered us and our silly conversation. I might add this was a hit too because we were able to get autographs/pictures for our kids in two places (as well as DCA plaza where there were hardly any lines to meet and greet the characters we saw Mickey,. Minnie, Daisy, Pluto).
This was our plan to easily meet the characters and take memorable pictures/autographs because it was our very first time with autograph books!
Hope this was helpful!
