What are your top picks for:

-Best Cat Litter for fighting odors
-Best Types of litter boxes for fighting odors

Thanks!

I have 5 cats. The Mystery Machine is right....the best defense against litter box odors is to have AT LEAST one litter box for each cat in your household, and to scoop it out frequently.

Thank you for your responses so far. We have two cats & 3 litter boxes-all situated next to each other, but we are thinking about spacing them out, after reading an article that suggested that

Any input on type of litter box or do you feel type of litter box is irrelevant?

Our litter boxes are several years old & we are wanting to replace them.

I usually buy the Tidy Cats Lightweight one. I like Tidy Cats because my cats don't kick it around as much as some of the other brands, probably because it's not as fine and sandy. I have a couple of open boxes and a couple covered ones. Some of the cats have a preference for one or the other, and if they aren't happy, well, then I'm really not happy because they show their displeasure.

The best litter I have found after years of having kitties is the Target brand (Boots and Barkley) for multiple cats. I also replace the whole litter box about once a year. The smells just penetrate into the plastic and stay there otherwise

I have found that Tidy Cats seems to work quite well. There are a few different varieties, they all seem good, the blue lid, black lid etc.... Also scooping at least every day too.

We have 4 cats and also use Tidy Cat... we like the one that has febreze... it has a grey lid.

Thanks!

Any experience with the Tidy Cat Breeze System? Great system or just an expensive gimmick?

Replacing the boxes will help as well, as the boxes do absorb odours. We replace our boxes every few months, you can only scrub so much away.

We use bicarbonate soda sprinkled on the bottom before adding litter, to absorb odours.
Clean out poop every day and stir up litter a few times a day.

I have found it really doesn't matter what kind of litter you use, just that it is cleaned frequently

We have 2 cats & 2 cat litter boxes. I've read that you're supposed to have one more litter box than you do cats, so, if that's true, we need one more box. But we don't have another good place to put another litter box.

We got our 2 cats at the same time from a rescue, & the lady who was fostering them recommended the Feline Pine Cat Litter System. However, she said to buy Equine Pine instead of the Feline Pine - it's a lot less expensive.

The Feline Cat Litter Box works like a double tray system.

W/ our previous cat, we used Tidy Cat & baking soda, & I think the Feline Cat Litter has MUCH less of a smell. It's also less messy because the cats don't scatter it.

Here's a link to the Feline Pine site w/ information about Feline Pine & how it works:

But, again, instead of the actual feline pine, we use equine pine which you can purchase at stores like Stockdales or Tractor Supply.

But, like others have said, the key really is to scoop regularly.

I tried all the different "systems" for the cats.
I like trying new things.

My cats on the other hand were like a 2 yr old at Christmas who has more fun with the boxes than the toys that came in them.

What I found was to have one more litter box than you have cats. 3 cats = 4 boxes.

Place them in different areas. We prefer to go to the bathroom in private and so do our cats.

Cheap litter works just as well as the spendy as long as you scoop daily.

We used the Rubbermaid sweater under bed boxes and replaced them ever 6 months. The older cats especially liked the lower sides and they were big enough that when the cats squatted the had enough room to go with out going outside the box. We would buy a bunch of them when they were on sale.

I have 2 cats, 2 litter boxes. I used Tidy Cats in one , Arm and Hammer Clump and Seal in the other. The Tidy Cats was in a regular hooded litter box, the A&H in our homemade Rubber Maid top entry litter box. They both ended up using the A&H box, so I quit using Tidy Cats. They know what they like! Now they use both, but prefer the top entry.

Here's what we used as a guide for our top entry: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...1BA3652296E10E5270A71BA3652296E10E5&FORM=VIRE

I scoop at least twice a day, and don't have any odors.

We use Tidycat Lightweight. If you have a Sam's Club near you, they have the best value of 19.5 lbs for $19.99 compared to 17 lbs for $21 at Target and Walmart. We mix ours with Arm & Hammer Essentials. We use a 1/2 and 1/2 mix and it keeps the dust down considerably. The cats seem to like it and we scoop three times a day with 5 boxes. With the Arm & Hammer watch for the specials the Target has where you will get a $5 Target gift card for the purchase of 2. Also if you use the Target redcard, you get 5% off.

We have 2 cats and one box. They have never had aproblem sharing. The absolute best litter I have found is;

Great price, works great and I don't have to lug it from the store! LOL
For a box, I use;

It helps with smell (if it gets to that point), but really cuts down on the tracking!

we use the tidy cat lightweight, and we change the physical box every 6 months.

We use baking soda in the bottom of the pan before putting new litter in

we also change the litter every wednesday night (thursday is trash day) and that seems to help as well

!

Same here- no way am I having multiple litter boxes for 2 cats! They learn to share- never had a problem. I use tidy cat litter and it seems to work well.

We have two cats and use Ever Clean kitty litter. A little pricey, but it's what we like and it works for us. We have a large litter box with hood. I scoop it every morning and it's part of my routine.

We took large rubbermaid plastic bins with lids like this and cut an entrance hole in the side of it about a 1/3 of the way up. Cheap covered litter box and the cats had no problem using them, we were transitioning from ones without a lid so we left the lids off for a few days, then covered it halfway for a few days before snapping the lids on. No problems at all. Just make sure you get a completely flat bottom one so scooping and cleaning is easier.

We liked Arm and Hammer litter, but our 3 boxes were tucked in the corner of the basement so unless we were down there doing laundry smell wasn't a big issue.
