Let's have a *friendly* competition! :teeth: Who can come up with the best car rental rates??

I found this one for a trip we are taking in October at Budget Rental.....it is good until December 31, 2006.

It provides me with a full size car from Oct. 18 - 23 in Orlando for $200.00 with taxes.

Can anyone beat that rate? :goodvibes

Interestingly, I just beat my own rate!

I put in the old Disney Club Code (5901600) at National and it came up with a rate of $192.86 with all fees, including taxes, and provided me with a rate code of CAWK for the same size car during the same time period!!

Hmmmmm.....that rate also comes up using the Emerald Club number on National (5007125).....which is probably safer! :sunny:

The Dollar Kissimmee rate (KISS2) comes out to $218.14 for the same dates.

I have a full-size car reserved at Thrifty from May 15-26 for a total of $238. The breakdown is $119.50 for a week plus $19 a day for the extra four days (plus taxes and fees).

Did you also use a rate/product code and coupon code for National?

We have a mid-size SUV booked with Alamo from 4/29-5/6 for (drum roll, please!!)...$114.09 all taxes included!! :thumbsup2

Sorry, but I don't think that's any great deal. I have a mid size SUV in late August, 5 days/nights for $90.88 including taxes. I have gotten full size cars for 10 days for what you are paying.

I got an Equinox (Chevy SUV) for our August 13th through the 25th (12 nights - 13 days) trip to the world usining AP discount for $228.62 total. That is the best rate I have ever received! :cool1:

I was able to get the Chevy Uplander for June 2-12 for $271.00. I thought that was pretty googd. I still go in everyday to try to get it lower, but right now it is at $100 more. This is with Alamo.

I got a Midsize SUV from National from 5/1 thru 5/6 for $110.06. That is bottom line, all fees, taxes, etc. I used 5007125 and it put in a Product Rate code of CADY. I also had $25.00 off coupon from mousesavers.

I didn't have one so I just used the default code CAWK that came up. I'll have to look around and see if I can find coupons. You guys have all found great deals and I think I can find something better, too, at National if I can come up with coupons. :teeth:

NeedaVacation03, OOPS, forgot to mention that mine was also from Alamo and I actually changed the reservation 3 times from around $300 to $280 then $250 then finally to the $228 I now have. I have checked back frequently and never saw a price within $100 of my rate.

We're going down Oct. 21 - 28 and need intermediete or midsize. Haven't had much luck getting below $200, so I'm hoping I'll get some helpful tips from you guys. Keep 'em coming!!!!

I know another silly question. But since I have driven to the world and haven't needed to rent a car in a very very long time, I have questions. When you originally booked your car, you secure it with a cc. then you are able to go back in and change it when the rate is lower or are you cancelling and rebooking? What happens to the original amount put on cc?

HEY rental gurus! Maybe you can help me! I have a minivan rented from Dollar at San Francisco airport for July 22 through Aug.2 with a dropoff at San Diego. The best I was able to find was $512(includes tax and 1 way travel fee). We need a minivan/Standard Suv/large SUV. Can't seem to find anything else...maybe some one out there has a better code because $512 seems like an aweful lot of money! :confused3

mtblujeans,

National rates have been much higher than Alamo, at least for my dates. Check Mousesavers.com for codes and coupon information.

What's the location code for Swan Dolphin? Is it more expensive to get it there for less than one week?

and those that are getting it around $100 can you share more details?

Booking a rental car is my LEAST favourite part of planning for a holiday. We will be in Florida Dec 16 - Jan 6. The first part of our holiday we will be staying in Orlando and the second part closer to Tampa so we are looking into flying in/out of MCO or TPA (whatever airfare is cheapest with SWA).

Therefore I am looking at car rentals for four possible situations. This si the least expensive I can find so far:

1. Fly in/out of MCO - Thrifty - midsize - no codes $488
2. Fly into MCO - out of TPA - Dollar - compact - no codes $536
3. Fly into TPA - out of MCO - National - compact - amex code (5125601)
$572
also SUV - CAA code (can't find code #) $526
4. Fly into TPA - out of TPA - National - SUV - Emerald club code (5007125)
$548

As I mentioned, I dislike this part of planning the trip.
Anybody have any other less expensive rental ideas for Dec 16 - Jan 6?

Not a silly question at all...we're all new to this stuff at some point!! None of the major rental companies require that you secure with a cc. Alamo does offer a discount now if you prepay but it's optional and I found that the codes gave me a larger discount than the prepay option. There's also a fee if you cancel after prepaying - I don't recall the amount but I don't think it's very much.

I usually just cancel and rebook as I find lower rates.

I forgot about Costco car rental discounts. In checking with them online, this is what I find.

Interestingly, Budget provides its own discount code and the site offers a coupon for a free weekend rental day or $15 off a 5 day rental. You have to click on the coupon you want to use and print it out to turn in when you get the car. They expire 12/31/06. Without the coupons and before taxes and fees, the rate for the same time period as my previous posts is $144.29 for a full size.

You have to click on the link on each coupon to get the rate with the coupon applied. I am having trouble with my internet today and I am getting an error message so I will have to try for the total at another time. Given the problems I am having tonight, I won't be able to post the rates from the other rental companies, either. So, feel free to use the links above and check them out.

Budget also offers a rate of $20 off a weekly rental with BCD# W852837 and Coupon# MUGZ041, a coupon I picked up at our local Costco.

I'll still be checking around, but just not tonight.
