Best Car Rental Rates

mtblujeans,

National rates have been much higher than Alamo, at least for my dates. Check Mousesavers.com for codes and coupon information.
I have coupons for Alamo thru Costco, too. Please compare them to the rates you found for your trip and get back to us! ;)

For a midsize car, save an additional $10 off the Costco discount rate with ID # 7011865 and Coupon Code D52C.

For a compact thru full size, 4 door car, get 1 day free on a minimum 5 day rental with ID # 7011865 and Coupon Code F52B.

Also, this sheet of coupons state that you should mention the access code when you call to reserve the vehicle: Alamo is ID #7011865, Avis is AWD #A108335, Budget is BCD #W852810, and Hertz is CDP #336436.

I was just wondering if anyone has rented boosters for their kids through the agencies? We only are using a car to get from the airport, to a friend's house in Ocala, then on to Disney where we will rely on Disney transportation. Literally, 24 hours for a car. Instead of hauling our boosters, we are looking to rent them too. What's the best price you can get? I think Avis was quoting us $9/per day.

We're still looking for the best rental agency but the booster is an added factor in our cost.

It's really hard to compare 'best rates' when you are comparing different times of the year. You can get a really good rate for the summer months and then be well over $200 for the Fall months.

This year, for some reason, late October (when I'm going) is VERY expensive.

I'm going the end of October, using National, and using a $20 coupon I still can't get it under $250 for 10 days.

Just to show you how much it can vary here's my price history for Intermediate rentals at National:

In Oct/Nov 2002 I paid $205. for 8 days.

In Nov/Dec 2003 I paid $110 for 8 days, my lowest rate ever.

In August 2004 I paid $184 for 7 days.

In Oct/Nov 2004 I paid $208 for 10 days.

In Sept/Oct 2005 I paid $72 for 4 days.

In Nov/Dec 2005 I paid $149. for 8 days

I got all of these rates by checking National's website at least once a week and checking this board almost daily for any posts about rates dropping.

I'm still hopeful that I can get my late Oct rate down below $200. :goodvibes

You are right, of course. I was going to make the reservation at the original rate I found and then I wondered what everyone else finds in their search for bargains. I think it has paid off and I appreciate everyone humoring me by sharing their better deals. Some of the deals people are finding, I had forgotten about (like Mousesavers.com). So, thanks everyone! :teeth:

As far as renting booster seats or car seats, we have done that before (just once) and were greatly disappointed as to how absolutely dirty the seat was! We had to do quite a bit of cleaning to feel comfortable with using it. But, that was years ago..... I would rent one again if it meant the convenience of not having to drag one more BIG thing around on our trip. :teeth:

Minivan, 2 weeks starting June 18th for $430 including taxes, etc. The base rate is $169 per week. I've tried countless combinations with all the on-site agencies and couldn't beat off-site Thrifty. I'd be interested if anyone had better minivan luck in June.

here is what I got for my minivan rental June 9 to 20 -12 days This was with Alamo using BJ"S. Got the additional driver for free!!!

magicalmcwho,

It looks like you combined the Wal-Mart code with the Entertainment coupon? If so, please let us know how that works out. I have a reservation with this combination, but am worried about doing the mix and match with Alamo.

do you have a link for the printable coupon? Thanks :)

I dont know this for a fact: only an observation from past years.

With Alamo, anyway If you book a car so many months away the price seems to be higher, the closer you get the more discounts they come out with. (except holidays)

Last year we booked a mid size for 8 days at $159 including taxes. One month before we left I found a new rate for $129 incl.tax.. same car..

This year I booked a midsize for Sept. 8 days $150 including tax. I will constantly keep checking back for more deals.

Also, in the past you could rent inexpensively through Alamos location at the Dolphin, but when I looked it up the same discount code and time was $220. Pretty interesting considering there are no airport tax fees included in that.

Ideally I would like to do the magical express and rent the car from the dolphin for a 3-5 days depending what the deal is.

Alamo

Mid size SUV for 16 days in August (11-27) $262 including all taxes and fees (base rate is 91.40 per week plus 15 each day extra for 2 days)

I have a mid-size SUV reserved with Alamo 5/4-5/11 for $94.56
I have a full size car reserved with National 10/29-11/3 for $134.90

First off, thanks everyone! I am glad I looked at this thread. I didn't even think to use my Costco or BJ membership to use for discounts. I haven't rented a car in at least 10 yrs! We were thinking of flying but the rental car killed the deal. However, with the Costco or BJ's discount it cuts the price almost in half of what I first saw.

I do have a question that hopefully someone can answer: I have many reward points on my credit cards that I have been saving. I can request 2 $100 gift certs. to Avis for a rental. Would I be able to use those along with the Costco discount? TIA

Does anyone know if you need to show anything besides the coupon to get the entertainment.com discount? I got the link through Mousesavers.

I got an intermediate with National for a week in May for $176 and change, all taxes and charges included.
That was with the Emerald Club and the coupon from the Entertainment book.
