Best car hire for 22 year old?

My friend's 22 year old son needs a hire car from MCO. I'm trying to help find the best deal. Any advice? I've read about $25/day young driver surcharges. Just wondered if anyone knew which car hire companies are the best for young drivers. Also, is there a recent list of car hire websites to check for best prices?
I only know of US-Rent-A-Car.

Only one I know does a special policy for under 25's is USrentacar http://www.usrentacar.co.uk/young_driver_under_25.aspx
Only problem is you have to take gold cover and not all companies offer it so its not cheap, last quote I got(if I remember rightly) was £395 for 2 weeks cover for cheapest car. Easy enought to get a quote if you know there dates.

Just had a look abd yes they do Jeanette. I did a dummy booking for a 7 seater van and it said £17.97 per day for Young driver fee/additional drivers & tank of gas. On a 14 day trip that adds a massive £251 ontop of the £346 for the car. but only slightly cheaper with USrentacar at £566 total.
Approx £200 more than its costing me for same car, glad I am old

Most US car rental agencies require the renter to be age 25 or over. It is difficult to find a car rental for a 22 year old. These links might be helpful:

For UK travellers some UK agents offer a young persons policy for ages 21-25. It can be added on arrival but usually $25/day, often cheaper to take the prepaid policy in UK before leaving.

Looked on Usave website 2 weeks cheapest rental at Tampa airport (can't find availabilty for any dates at Orlando Int) $1005.25 USD without insurance
thats £628 compared to about £200 with a UK agent fully insured but it appears they do charge $25/day for under 25's ontop.

Can't see a figure, just says Renters under 25 may be subject to an additional fee

Just read Caronthedrive don't add any extra for 21-25 year olds, they are more expensive than a regular rental but might be worth getting a quote and confirming no extra fees.

I am nearly sure that Budget do any under age package so the under age prices is included in the quote and cheaper than paying as an extra

I know if you booked via Virgin Holidays and took the top insurance it covered those aged 22 - 25.

I remember having all that fuss last year (trip when we were 21), and we decided it was easier and much cheaper to do a town car between the airport to Universal then to Disney a few days later with a supermarket stop (Florida Tours, they were fantastic!) than to try and faff with getting a decent rate. Yes it wasn't as flexible, but it saved from pulling most of my hair out.

If that is at all possible, I'd consider it!
