What is the best camera out there for your money. I need a new digital, and want one that is semi-professional. Can anyone give me idea's? I haven't bought a camera in 5 yrs. I want something that takes professional looking pics. :confused3 Thanks

try the photography board here. You'll have lots of opinions. You will want to list how much you want to spend and brand favorites and stuff. A new camera means new memory cards too. Also, if you have a semi-professional old camera, list the brand since you might be able to use the lenses from it on a new camera.

Not sure how much you're looking to spend but I recommend the Canon XSI Rebel. I love mine!:lovestruc

Not sure of the answer to this really, but I just purchased a Fuji with 18x zoom from Best Buy for 199.99 including a case and 4g memory card. It is DH's father's day gift and it didn't get bad reviews, but there weren't a lot to go on. I decided for that price to take a chance and if it isn't good, he can return it and put the money towards one he wants.

On the low end of the spectrum I am very happy with my Kodak easyshare. They can be found for as little as $100.00. I am thinking of upgrading to a Cannon but am staying under $200.00 :thumbsup2

Just bought a Canon SX20is for $369 which we really like. It's not a Digital SLR, but has a 20x optical zoom and does 720p video where you can zoom and also take a photo shot during the video (many don't allow that).

Don't mean to hijack, but can you please let me know how quick this one is to take pictures - is there a long delay to focus, and take the pic? We have a toddler and a new baby, and are shopping for a new camera. The delay is picture taking is our normal frustration with cameras.

We've had Canon's generally (and also have a Nikon dSLR for our nicer pics) and like to have a camera we can travel around with more easily than the dSLR.

For me personally, anything that is not a digital SLR is too slow to focus to take digital pictures of babies and children.

We have a slightly older one but it takes great pictures. It's the Cannon S5 1S. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=15207 One of the things we love the most about it is the lack of delay. It's very low on this camera. It has many settings and I can get great shots with this. It takes AA batteries so no need to carry along some strange battery. We just carry our charge and recharge batteries while on trips. We've had this for 3 years now and love it so much that when it got a speck of dust under the lens, we spent $230 to get it repaired instead of getting another, more inexpensive camera.

We are pleasantly surprised, but our previous cameras were the relatively low-end ones which seemed to take forever. We find we can take a picture every 2-3 seconds (that's without flash). Probably not as good as a DSLR but better than other cameras, which is probably the niche Canon's shooting for with this camera.

It also has a continuous shooting mode, which we've not tried yet.

Specs and a review here.

I just bought a Panasonic FZ35. It's an 18x zoom and takes HD videos. It's essentially the same as the Canon SX20is, both got good reviews, but this was a tad smaller. It was just over $300, which is cheaper than the Canon.

I will second that! I bought mine a year ago after getting a great deal at Amazon. It is pricey but soooo worth it. It's probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.

I just ordered this from Wal-mart. I cannot say how it is, but basing it on the cannon I have now, I like cannon....

Canon PowerShot SX120-IS Black 10MP Digital Camera with *Bonus* Case & 4GB SD Card Bundle.... price is $179 & free shipping...

I have this one, too. The quality in low light and in high activity (sports) is pretty poor. Especially compared to my Cannon S5 1S.

Yes, go to the Photography board on here. They helped me pick a DSLR two years ago.

I will also give the Cannon a thumbs up :thumbsup2 but mine is just the Rebel XS not the XSi. We did quite a bit of research before deciding. Once we did Sears had a special where you got $50 off the camera and $100 off the extra lens so it came to $649.

Canon also has great customer service. DH dropped & broke some part inside my camera where the lens fits the camera. I contacted Canon, sent it in for repair, they fixed it, cleaned it, shipped it back to me & I it only took 2 days. It was under warranty so I only paid to ship it to them (which I made Dh pay )

DH uses a Nikon D90 (more expensive than my Canon) at work. We've used both cameras side by side & my pics usually turn out better than his. (He has more experience than me-he took photography classes through work.)

I love the fast shutter speed. My DD is learning to swim & I took some great pics of her swimming last weekend.

Thanks for the info you guys gave me just what I needed to know. It seems the general concensus is a Cannon Brand camera is the way to go. Hubby and I will be researching a Cannon, we are on a budget so I think I don't want to go over 150.00, looking on ebay I think I can get a decent camera for our needs, my Samsung is about shot it was old about 5 yrs a dino now with the technology they have today!! But thanks for the responses. :woohoo:
