I will be staying in a 1 BR at Hilton Head this July. I've never been. I'm a little confused on the different views, but I guess I'd like a marsh view. I also prefer to be fairly close to the pool, community hall, check-in, etc., but I like privacy and quiet, too. I don't want to be right at the pool; I don't mind walking about 5 minutes to get to activities. Which building would be the best to request?

Building 15 is wonderful, with a perfect marsh view and close to everything, but it's a bit of a walk to the pool. Nothing is really far, however, because the resort is small. If you need an elevator, then you would need to request the main lodge.

We prefer buildings 31, 29, and 27. They're a bit "remote" and have a great marsh view. The resort is not that large, so there's not much of a walk to anywhere.

It looks like these buildings are fairly close to the pool and community hall, but they are a long way from Big Murggie's Den. I not sure what Big Murggie's Den is though beside that it has a pool table. Can you explain? Also what is Tide Me Over? Is it a snack bar?

Not positive but I think all the 1brs are all in the 1st set of buildings near the lobby. I don't think you will have much choice- they all have a nice marsh view. I think they are buildings 11,12, and 13.

There are a total of 21 1BR villas at the resort. 16 of those are located in Buildings 11/12 - the Live Oak Lodge where the fromt desk and Big Murgies Den are located. the remaining 5 are found beneath a GV in Buildings 16,18,19, 28 and 30. All Lodge (Buildings 11 and 12) accommodations are lock off 1BR and Studios. There are a total of 16 1BR and 16 Studios in the lodge. The remaining 5 1BR and 5 Studios are located beneath the GV's in buildings #16,18,19, 28 and 30.

Buildings #23, 25 & 26 have pool view balconies. Buildings #11,12,13,14,15,17,18,22,24,27,29 and 31 have Marsh (Broad Creek) views.
Buildings #16,19,20,21,28 & 30 have interior (Island) views of nothing in particular (mostly wooded areas and other buildings).

GV's are located in bldgs# 16,18,19, 28 and 30.

Here is a link to a summary of the HH Resort.

I dont think there is a bad building in the bunch. And a 8 minute walk will get you from one end to the other :thumbsup2

We've stayed in 4 different 1 BRs in our stays at HHI (we've had more than 4 trips, some times we've repeated rooms). Our two favorite views were this one, from #1132 (Main Lodge)-

Followed by this one (#1812)-

#1812 is closer to the pool, but it's a first floor villa, and depending on who's above you and the hours they keep, that's sometimes a problem. #1132 is right next to the elevator. When we were there, both units were quiet-DH is a very light sleeper and if nothing bothers him at night, it's quiet!

I know I don't want to be under a GV, so I guess that leaves Buildings 11 or 12. I just worried about being in Building 11 because it seems that it wouldn't be quiet because it's the main lodge. Has anyone stayed in Building 12? Also, should I request a certain floor? How many floors are there anyway?

We've stayed in Building 12 twice, both times in the same 1 BR on the top floor. The view was kind of just OK, but for quietness it was fine. The only problem we had on one trip was that our next door neighbors persisted in slamming the door to their villa every time they went in and out, which seemed to be quite often at all hours of the day and night. But that could happen anywhere.

Building 12 only has "Island" views - although you can see the marsh from those villas too. Building 11 and 12 are connected, so they are both really one building. We've never noticed any noise problems in either. Each building has 4 floors - the front desk is on the 2nd floor and there are no rooms on the ground level (that's the parking garage).

I loved building 12- our view looked out on the water toward the fishing pier- it was very quiet and I loved being so close to the den.

Thanks for this info. We are staying in a 1 bedroom at HHI for the first time at the end of June. I understand that there are many places for dinner
that at near. Any favorites ?
Also I have read that some give DVC discounts.
Can you give info/directions to a grocery store nearby ?

:cool1:

The nearest grocery is the Piggly Wiggly right on Shelter Cove - about 1/4 mile from the resort. We like their variety of selection and they have great fresh fish and meats.

There are several restaurants within walking distance of the resort. The Kingfisher, Scott's Fishmarket both offer discounts to resort guests as does Giuseppi's Pizza. The resort will give you a list of the locations offering discounts. Kingfisher also has an early dining special. Also within a short walk from the resort is Bistro, Parrot Cove, Little Venice, San Miguel's and Ocean Grille - all at Shelter Cove right across the marina from the resort. We also enjoy Alexander's, Red Fish, Crane's Tavern, Catch 22 - all a short drive away (and many offer early dining specials).

Thanks, Webmaster Doc.
I do have another question for you-
Our daughter is vegetarian and our son vegan, do you know if the
grocery store you mentioned has a wide variety of offerings ?
(We can look at the menues on line.)

They do have a good variety, but I don't know specifically about vegan/vegetarian offerings. There is also a Publix about 2 miles away (turn left on the parkway as you leave the resort and then turn right at the traffic circle about 2 miles down the road - the publix will be on the left). I'm sure the resort can also offer other suggestions if those stores won't meet your needs. Chef Gordon (in the Mercantile) would be a great resource and I'm sure would be happy to make suggestions to help you find what you need! :)
