Best Beach for a few hours for 2 adults

DH and I will be in Anaheim next week and are staying at the Howard Johnson near Disneyland. We will be there a week (he has a 3-day conference in LA), and we'd like to at least see the Pacific Ocean and maybe stick our feet in.

Anyone have any good suggestions for a nice beach? I'm sure this has been answered before, but mostly what I found with a quick search was beach resort info. We don't want a resort, but just to hang out by the ocean for a little while since we so rarely get to do so.

Newport or Laguna are the nicest. Either one should suit your needs.

If you're just looking to hang out, I would suggest Huntington Beach also. There are small shops along Main Street and there is a pier that you can walk on. You can also visit the Ruby's at the end of the pier for some food and a great view.

I also like Huntington Beach. I think it is like $10 to park. Last time we were ther, we just wanted to walk along the beach for a little while, so we parked at a meter and it only cost about $1.

I had a apt in Manhatten Beach when I went to school down there. It was a very nice beach with many shops and easy walking along the blvd.

Manhattan & Hermosa beaches are a bit further away, but one of the best. It has the whole "Beach boys" feeling to it with shops and restaurants.
One of my favoite "beach" beaches (ie, to swim/play) doesn't have any of the bells and whistles, but I love it. Corona del Mar. Has a breakwall with warmer water and cleaner and not quite so crazy waves.

Another vote for Huntington Beach. It's not too far away from where you'll be at either....we love it there.
