Best Beach and Hotel in area

I will have teenage boys with me for a few days in the San Diego area. I would appreciate advice on which would be the best beach. Would you suggest staying close to the beach, sea world, zoo, Petco, etc.? Also great restaurants too please. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

What attractions do you plan to hit while you're here? Not that anything is TOO far away, but the zoo, Sea World, PETCO, etc. are all in different neighborhoods. I usually recommend La Jolla (a little more north) or Coronado for family beaches, but since you have teenage boys, they might think Pacific Beach or Mission Beach is "cooler". That's where you'll see the stereotypical volleyball players, surfers, and teens and college kids hanging out.

We plan on doing sea world, petco and one of the beaches for certain. Possibly one of the theme parks before traveling onto DL. I am open to a central location or possibly closer to the beach. I am mainly interested in a safe area that is not too over priced. We are not ones to stay in the hotel but are constantly on the go

I'd probably stay near Mission Beach then. You can do the beach, be close to Sea World, and be pretty close to downtown to see the park and other sites downtown.

Twingle, PETCO Park is the baseball stadium here in San Diego. When are you going? If its during baseball reason you should go to a game if they have one. Tickets are dirt cheap since SD fans are fair-weathered lol. If not, I'm not sure you'll be able to see much of the stadium other than the gate.

We are planning sometime during the summer. Probably July. We have been to over half the MLB parks thus far, so we will definately go to a Padres game. Thanks for any suggestions and recommendations for everything from hotels, restaurants, activities, etc.
