Best and Worst Insurance Companies for Home and Auto????

Have Liberty Mutual for cars - love them have had them for years, never had any problems and the rates are good. When we have put a claim thru it was so easy and quick. Would love to have them for my homeowners but they don't write claims where I am in SC.

We just switch homeowners insurance and saved a ton of money - can't remember the name of the new company right now.

I'm also in Indiana, and I've found the best rates to be through American Family. I get great service and my agent has been great. The claims process has been really quick anytime I've needed them.

I would use anyone EXCEPT for Allstate.

I have never had them but DH was hit by someone that did. Just check out the web site Allstate insurance s_ _ ks.com ( fill in the blanks.) or do a general google search with that verbiage.

Any insurance company will have unhappy customers, but.....

We have AAA for renter's insurance and car insurance. Their service is great, but I'm getting fed up with their prices so I am reading this thread with interest.

Our insurance isn't due until the Spring, but it doesn't hurt to start shopping now. If I find a good deal, I can cancel and get a refund, yes?

I've had Amica for 24 yrs and been very happy

Ditto! Love them, have been with them forever, including my grandparents, parents and soon to be daughter. We put in claims, never have been dropped, we've been sued and they were so nice and easy to work with. They have our cars, our house, and our rental house.

This is to update and say thanks for all the input. Like everything it appears some people like company A while others have had bad experiences with company A, some like company B while others dislike company B. I spent so many hours calling and online getting quotes. In the end we found that All State will save us over $700 for the exact same coverage (and policy type--what they will cover for homeowner losses etc.) than USAA. That is a huge difference for anyone. Things might change when our children start to drive (in the next 6 months) but for now I can't justify paying USAA $1652 for what All State will give me for $982. I had my exact policy and the questions USAA told me to ask when they were trying to get me to stay with them (All State answered exactly the way the should without my saying why I was asking that particular question).

It is not fun doing and I don't want to have to do it again anytime soon...
Thanks again for all the input on various companies. I knew at times which ones to steer away from when I was getting a quote of $250 for 6 months for 2 cars from some no-name company through Sam's Club insurance group I said no thanks! They quote from several different companies and I hadn't heard of this company...of course they said it used to be XXX and then name was changed (I don't honestly remember what company was). When I looked up reviews it was all 'stay away from this company' type reviews!

This is interesting I am shopping around too and have auto with USAA and home with Lib Mut. Hoping to get lower rates for one or both elsewhere
HAvent has issues with USAA and was thinking of putting my homeowners with them but after reading this threas I am going to do some more quotes.

We had Progressive for auto for a few years... after a series of incidents, I can say we will never have them again. Although I do like Flo. :)

We currently have Farm Bureau for everything but health and are very pleased.

Side note: I have 2 aunts who work for Geico and carry State Farm on everything. SF is super pricey, though.

USAA did work with me....got rate down to within $200 of All State. To stay with them I would have paid the extra since we have had no issues with the company BUT that involved changing the deductible from $100 to 1% which in our case for rebuilding costs would have been $3400. Sorry I can't afford to have that high of a deductible if there in an emergency. Also, found that they were not quoting the rebuilding amount right....had square footage amount wrong on our house (not sure if they should have caught this or I should have so I can't lay blame on them--all other companies look at something online to get square footage and found all of them had 400 more sq. ft. on our house). This would have brought our premium up to $1600+ and the 1% deductible to $3700.

My advice is to shop, shop and keep asking questions. I will say USAA was great about telling me the specific questions to make sure we had EXACTLY the same type of coverage. This is why we like them but I can't afford that high of a premium and with 2 teenagers ready to drive within 1.5 years I need to save NOW! Keeping the insurance with the same company usually gets you a multi-line discount and also with All State if I sign up for auto insurance 1 week prior to my current policy expiring I got a discount. I have had no 'harassing' phone calls from the companies I requested quotes from also.
