Best and Worst Cover Songs

I like the Silverstein cover of Apologize

As I listen to my Ipod, I heard this one I love:

Stevie Ray Vaughn covering "Little Wing"
Wow!:lovestruc

Anything Tori Amos Covers is also tops in my book... she does a great Landslide, as well as a Case of You originally Joni Mitchell. Her version of Smells like Teen Spirit actually started me on my weird obsession with cover songs many moons ago :)
Teen Spirit is so beautiful, as well as her cover of the Rolling Stones Angie. I know two girls named Angie whom I hate, but I still love that song. I don't even like it by the RS

I really like Love Song by 311 and Adele (not together, two separate covers!)

Oh, and The Atari's Boy's of Summer.

At this moment I'm listening to Blackbird by the late Kenny Rankin. Really good.

Another good Beatles cover is Joe Cocker's With A Little Help From My Friends.

I just found it recently, but my most favorite cover of all time is

John Mayer doing Free Fallin'

Is that who that is? I was in Chili's and heard this yesterday and thought it was the worst song ever. I hated it when Tom Petty did it and I hate it even more with this version.

Well, I guess that's the answer to this question

The best covers.....Lesson learned most Metal bands know how to cover songs :goodvibes

- The Wind Beneath My Wings By Sonata Arctica
- Oops I did it Again by Children of Bodom
- Crazy by Iron Savior (Yes Seal goes Power Metal \m/)
- Surfin' USA by Blind Guardian
- Still Fly by A Devil Wears Prada
- An American Trilogy by Manowar :worship:
- Nessun Dorma by Manowar :worship:
- Phantom of The Opera by Nightwish
- Aerials by Amon Amarth
- Hung Up/A New Level riffs by Madonna Not sure if this even counts Pantera riff at 4:27, have to post the link to this cause it's awesome... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xAjESD7TbU&feature=related

The worst...

- Purple Haze by Winger
- Lowrider by Exodus (I love Exodus but this is horrendous)
- Nothing Else Matters by Shakira (90's Metallica is soft enough, they don't need any help...she butchers this)

"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is a much covered song, and the best version, IMO, is that of Guns N' Roses.

Thought of a couple more amazing covers....

Black Cat by Warmen
The Wild Rover by TYR

Love that. I don't think he ever did something I didn't like.

Worst:

Stairway to Heaven, The Far Corporation

Holy Diver, Killswitch Engage

Piece of my Heart, Faith Hill

Technically not a remake but that Kid Rock song that starts off with the opening strains of Werewolves of London, Warren Zevon. I absolutely hate that song and it's sampling.

Some of my favorites:

Stella Blue, Warren Haynes (Bonnaroo CD--actually quite a few covers on there. Love how he doesn't try to copy the original artist.)

All Along the Watchtower. Quite a few covers, Jimi Hendrix and DMB both do great versions. All bring something different to the table.

The worst...

- Purple Haze by Winger

I agree with your whole list especially Manowar's American trilogy but I was about to post that I LIKED Winger's Purple Haze. The worst cover that I refuse to hear (I have never heard of it because it is blasphemous) is Mariah Carey's cover of BRINGING ON THE HEARBREAK by Def Leppard. Don't get me wrong, I like Mariah but I love Def Leppard more.

LOL sorry about Winger..I agree An American Trilogy by Manowar is beyond EPIC!!! I saw them play that live as well as Nessun Dorma in 2002, Eric Adams is the most underrated vocalist of all time.....Curiosity struck regarding the Mariah- Def Lappard cover, my ears will never be the same, I long for deafness after that... Definitely deserves nomination for the WORST cover ever...

Wow... his voice is amazing!

I think so, too. Unfortunately, he has had some health issues and can't sing anymore. He is having a stem cell transplant specifically for his voice box here in the next few months. We are all really hoping it does the trick and we can get back to hearing his voice!!!

You say underrated...I say greatest metal singer of all time. Sorry Halford!

Agreed!!! Halford is number 3, Bruce and Eric are a close 1 and 2....Bruce Dickinson, Eric Adams, Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, Matt Barlow are my top 5.

A couple other great covers came to mind by the A Capella Metal band Van Canto:

Kings of Metal by Van Canto
Battery by Van Canto
Fear of the Dark by Van Canto
