***EDITED*** Not charging for EMH... Just charging for an additional 3 hours outside of EMH...

So I saw yesterday where Disney is now charging for EMH - although calling it something else... which got me thinking...

So what is the best change you have seen at Disney lately that you like?

What is the worse change you have seen at Disney lately that you dislike?

Fast pass +.
I realize a lot of people love it, but I don't go to WDW in peak times and I don't travel the parks like a man (person) on a mission. In the past I enjoyed getting one or two fast passes a day, sometimes a third. I even hurried to Toy Story to get fast passes for the entire group as soon as I entered the studios. I didn't mind that. What I mind about fast pass + is that now I have to decide where I'll be every day of my vacation well ahead of time. Very little option for a spontaneous day, though I have been known to blow of some of the fast passes.
Add to that, the fast passes are sometimes opposite sides of the park, which means back and forth and a lot more walking, and the fact that I'm often forced to take a fast pass away from someone else for an attraction I don't really want to experience.
I get that they are trying to distribute the crowds and all, but this control thing is really getting to me.
Still going though. Grown up trip with DD this time.

I didn't say what change I liked. I like magic express, I no longer have to rent a car. If they start charging for that, I'll go back to renting a car and eating/shopping off site.

Let's stop this rumor before it gets started. Disney is NOT charging for EMH. Extra Magic Hours are a separate thing scheduled for a separate night. This is a 'bonus' night that does not interfere or replace EMH that people can pay a ridiculous amount of money for.

Best --
I was a real skeptic as a MAJOR old-time FP user, but have come around and really do like the FP system now. Not perfect, but I've found more things I like about it than not, so I'll put that on the plus side.

I LOVE that they're adding night time activities at AK! I think that's a HUGE plus. I wish they'd get on with it already, but that's another story.

Worst --
That it seems everything is a paid "extra" now. I know it's not the case but it seemed like my first couple trips, I bought a package that included hotel, park tickets, and dining plan (free). That was it. Now it seems that every great thing I read about is going to be an added cost--and not a small one!!

And that they're trying to make too many changes all at once, leaving too many things closed at the same time and parks in shambles. For whatever reason, it takes Disney forever and a day to finish any new construction. Why not focus on one thing at a time, get it done quicker, and move on to the next?

Thank you. It seems that some people just like :stir:

Ha... My 13 yo DS agrees with you on Frozen... :)

I'm excited for AK and DHS changes...

Going WAY back...
I dislike the newer Fantasyland... I miss toon town and know my DD would have loved Minnie's house... I wish they would have made it a real attraction rather than close it...

I feel like Fantasyland looks like a scene from that Johnny Depp movie Cry-Baby or Santas Village in NH!!! gawdy and tacky!!! ESP with those random gray bricked walls behind the carousel!!!

I also dislike the way you interact with characters... I miss the two tier bus at Epcot that had like 6 or so characters get off at a time and randoms like that!!!

Changes I don't like-- a package does not cover everything. I used to be able to pay for my package before we arrived and pretty much everything was covered (meals--even tips at one point, tickets, hotel, parking, etc). Now they have added all these "extras" - dessert parties, preferred parking, $150 for 3 hours after regular close time, etc. I know you don't have to purchase the extras but it sure makes if fell less like an all inclusive vacation. It would not be so bad if this "extra" income for Disney had reduced or at least kept ticket and resort packages at the same price point from year to year. Instead, our package price increases.
I also preferred the old fast pass system. It is hard enough to plan your dining 6 months out. I don't like scheduling every minute of my vacation.
And if I don't schedule that far out, my only other option is waiting for hours in line or missing the popular attractions.

Changes I do like -- we do like the magic bands. It is convenient for us.

We love MB! I love not having much to carry in the parks. I also love that I can have 3 guarantee FP+ in case we decide to sleep in.

Love trader Sams. It is a great addition to the night life. I like the changes in Disney springs, although I feel it has taken a little too long to complete. I also exited to see the new additions to AK.

I dislike all the new nickle and dimming addition that Disney has recently added such as the premium parking, MK after dark, hour cuts, etc. I will add that adding resorts fees will be the last straw for us and we will choose to go somewhere else.

Best:
-FastPass+
-Magic Bands
-Internet in the parks (this is great as I am form Canada and not willing to pay my phone companies crazy rates to use data in the US)

Worst:
-I am thinking Avatar land as it is likely to be a mistake to theme a land on an entire non-disney movie that no one really talks about anymore and we have no way of knowing how popular sequels etc will be. With that being said, I am reserving final judgement for when it opens.

I haven't been back in there in three years, what have they added that's Frozen related besides the M&G with A&E and eventually with Olaf, along with Frozen Ever After?

Turning the Maelstrom into a Frozen ride is pretty big! Just seems you can't turn around without seeing something Frozen related!

  • ROL? Maybe. I don't know. I'll have to see it before I say that I like it. Longwood Gardens outside of Philly did a summer light show called Nightscape and it blew me away. If Disney employs that kind of technology in ROL, it will be a must-see for me.
  • Star Wars Land? Maybe. I don't know. I'm not a huge fan and would probably walk out of HS saying HUH?
  • Pandora? Possibly. I saw Avatar in the theaters and have not watched it again. But I think Disney might do a nice job with it.

Dislikes:
  • The "Tunification" of Epcot.
  • Upsells on just about everything (parking, extended park hours, dining).
  • Paying more for a ticket at WDW (and getting less for it) in order to fund Shanghai and Hong Kong overruns.
