Best AK plan?

We have a Tusker House reservation at 11:20am and a Jiko reservation at 6pm.

We will be traveling with our 5 year old daughter.

We really want to maximize our time in the park!

Early safari, The Festival of the Lion King, etc.

One of my concerns is the Rapids and getting very wet before dinner.

Where could we freshen up before dinner?

How early should we arrive?

Do you realize Jiko is at Animal Kingdom Lodge, not the park. I ask because you stated you wanted to maximize time in park.

For us at least, AK does not take a whole day to tour.

Yes....I thought we could head to AKL around 4:30-5 and explore the lodge before dinner.

Thoughts?

I think that is would work as far as time. Jiko is a signature dining so you might want to do some searches on dress code experiences Not saying you can't go there in park casual attire because I don't know for sure, but we have always gone near-business attire (like polo shirt for men - maybe sun dresses for wife and girls).

If that's not what you are looking for, Boma at AKL is a great choice as well. It's a little more casual and also has awesome food

Ironically bus lines from AK to AKL from 4-7pm tend to be crazy with the possibility of very long waits, as everyone has the plan of going to Boma, Sanaa, or Jiko on their AK park day.

There are so many wonderful experiences at AKL. I would go early not only to avoid bus lines but to enjoy some of the options. I'm sure a DIS or G***le search would provide you with the current resort activities schedule.
I don't remember the dress code being an issue - we saw shorts to Sunday best. But the shorts weren't cut-offs or sports shorts - they were like Bermuda shorts... We have gone straight from the parks, but we don't go to the parks looking like we are going to gym class.

Good to know! This sounds like us!

I was just looking online for cute patterned sundresses for my daughter to wear on AK day! With a fun safari look! We would plan to dress up a little bit on this day. Cool (as possible) and comfy yet a bit more polished.

I could wear a maxi dress and I sure my husband would wear Patagonia shorts and a polo shirt.

Would that be fine! I could pack brush and a little lip gloss, deodorant, etc. to sneak in a little touch up in a bathroom before heading to the AKL. :)
