Besides GF where can you get married?

New to this part of the message board.

I have a few questions:

1. Is there only certain places at Disney that you can get married?

2. How does one find a priest to marry you at Disney? We are both catholic.

No wedding is date is planned yet, but we are thinking about the future. The only big hang up is that my parents insist that we get married in a church (I don't think they won't mind if it is not in New York - I hope). They say if you are not married in a church then you are not married. I have not spoken to the priest in my church yet. This all in the talk phase right now.

We don't want anything big. WE want only 14 members on his side (consisting of only the closest of friends and family. I would LOVE to be married at the gazebo at Port Orleans Riverside, but have a feeling that would not be possible. Then the party could head over to either Boatrights to eat or head to Epcot and eat at a restaurant in World Showcase and enjoy the atmosphere and the attractions. I wanted to see if this is possible. Don't want to mention this part to my parents because just the mention of not being married in a church made them sound like I committed murder. Scared the hell out of me.

Hi there...

There are quite a few places to get married. We got married at the wedding pavilion, so I am not sure if the gazebo at Port Orleans is one of them, but I know there are plenty of places.

Regarding the Catholic priest. A Catholic priest wont marry you out of the Catholic church. I am also Catholic, and b/c I wanted Disney so much I opted out of being married in a church. If your parents are insistant with getting married in a church, this may not work for you. You may want to find a local Catholic church and then celebrate at Disney.

Thanks for the responses. I had thought the church would not marry anyone outside of the church. Which if you really think of it any open area is God's place.

The gazebo at POR is special to the two of us. Which surprised me since he is not a Disney fan at all and was only doing it for us. The only option I could think of is do something small at my local church and then do something at Disney. I have to check out the websites you both have mentioned.

I am the type of person that I don't like to be the center of attention so I want something informal. I am not into spending all the money and time and effort into a big function. I would rather spend the time and effort to make sure we have a happy marriage and use any expense to the down payment of a home. No one still does not believe me when I said I don't want the big fancy wedding dress. Maybe something to the ground but nothing over done.

I was facing your same problem (sans the Catholic issue). The biggest problem for my family is that they feared it would not be a religious ceremony. I just needed to reassure the members of my family that it would be, and tell them that this is what I wanted, and that I hope that they would support me. Pretty much it took a while for them to figure out that I was not going to back down. We are older, so it is a bit different for us. I hope that it all works out for you.

the por gazebo is not a wedding location per disney, i asked about this venue too & my sm advised me it is not an available venue due to resort traffic. instead we chose the yacht club gazebo, which is in an intimate garden setting. as for expense you'll probably want to look at disney intimate wedding packages (ceremony, cake cutting, no formal reception) which start at $3500 which cover 12 guests including bride & groom, otherwise custom weddings (over 12 guests) start at a $10,000 minimum with ceremony, reception, etc.

fyi-the catholic archdiocese does not recognize weddings at disney or anywhere outside of the church. but you could do a reaffirmation ceremony with the church after the disney wedding.

We are getting married at Disney next March and then having an at home reception in May. At the reception, we are going to have a priest that is close to my fiance's family give us a wedding blessing. This is helping some of the family members who feel like we're missing something by not having a catholic wedding.
