My in-laws have generously offered to send DH and I to Bermuda for 4 nights to celebrate DH's 30th birthday. We're looking for places to stay...any ideas based on experience?? It will be just the two of us (in-laws are keeping DD) so we don't need a family-friendly resort. DH has been but it was in college for a rugby tour so the experience was quite different ;) I have never been so I'm just looking for some recommendations....thanks!

We went for our honeymoon and stayed at Grotto Bay. We really liked it, but that was nearly 15 years ago. My parents went after us and stayed at the Fairmont Southhampton and were very happy with it. DH & I were just talking about going back there. It's so beautiful!

Elbow Beach has a wonderful beach ... personally I think you could stay ANYWHERE. I have been 3 times and it is my favorite place next to WDW. Remember that there are a number of "meal" plans - food is VERY expensive on Bermuda so it can be worth it to pay for a hotel with "modified American plan - breakfast and dinner." You will find that buying cokes or beers can easily bust your budget so having 2 meals a day already paid in the budget is worth it. Take advantage of tea time.

Check out the Bermuda tourism site for any special deals and look for hotel deals for "second honeymoons" etc which may include spa treatements or golf, etc.

It is worth it to get a bus/ferry pass or have even more fun and rent moped(s) ... The residents are all so very nice and it is worth it to talk to them about the island. Use LOTS of sunscreen -the skies are so clear that you can quickly get a burn.

I'm so jealous.

Thanks so much for all the great advice!! I had heard that food is pricey so I think we will definitely consider the resorts that offer the MAP. I was just looking at the Pompano Beach Club and it's seems really reasonable for breakfast and a 5 course dinner each night. Planning is so much fun......but, we have never gone away w/o DD so the mom in me feels both guilty and nervous.....she will be in good hands but I still worry ;) We're only a 2 hr flight away though.....

Do NOT stay in Grotto Bay. We were there 2 years ago and had a mouse/rat situation in our room. Management did not believe us until they saw it with their own eyes and then were very reluctant to move our family to an alternate rooms. Both the rodent issue and treatment by the staff were unpleasant.

Does your DH have a brother :lmao::lmao::lmao:

What a nice gift. I have never been there so I am no help.

Hate to rain on your parade, but Bermuda is having a bit of a violence problem lately.

I would recommend Southampton Princess.

Please be careful about walking around in Hamilton after the sun goes down. Take taxis and don't rent bikes.

Here is the local paper website if you'd like to get familiar with the island:

To the PP who mentioned the rat problem at Grotto - I told DH and he almost fell on the floor he was laughing so hard - Grotto has been notorious for vermin for more than forty years - it is right on the water, in a low spot and surrounded by caves. He remembers fishing right off the beach at Grotto and having rats come out of the brush to go after the bait, in broad daylight. The management didn't believe you - hysterical!

Oh, thanks for the heads' up. I had no idea. I certainly don't want to take any chances, especially since I am already nervous about leaving DD. I don't think my in-laws care where we go so maybe we should think about another destination if this persists.
