Benefits of Disney Visa vs. AMEX

Hi everyone,

We just received the request for our final payment for the July 19th cruise. Can anyone tell me if there is any benefit to using the Disney Visa card vs. using American Express to make the payment?

The Disney Card gives you 6 months interest free on DCL travel. (and WDW travel for that matter) It also gives you 1% of your total in Rewards that can be used on the cruise. So for $1000.00 you'd get $10.00 back - not much but better then nothing!

Hi Captwildcat...

I had every intention of paying cash for our cruise but when the Disney Visa came out I decided to leave my money in the bank for 6 mos since the charge was interest free for that long. You also get the rewards $$ to use to apply to your onboard ship bill. I just recently asked to redeem those dollars so I would be sure to get in tiime for our July cruise. I'll just pay off in October or so.

We have both as well....we are taking advantage of paying off the cruise with our Visa, just to earn a few Disney Dollars (and to take advantage of the 6 mos no interest), but if you get points with your Amex, you could be on your way to having a plane ticket taken care of. I am not sure what other benifits you would get using your Amex (unless you signed up for some of the insurance programs they have); I thought Amex and Disney sort of severed their relationship. last year.(?)

We are currently alternating using the Amex and Disney visa from month to month to pay for all our regular expenses....better to earn something we enjoy...Amex points are getting us to our cruise with Frontier Airlines and the Disney Dollars may pay for part of a spa treatment or two...or at least a drink!
