Benefits for Resale after the January changes?

I know the benefits are limited for resale purchases, but does anyone know if there are any benefits and what they are for people who purchased this year after the Jan change?

Don't know about any benefits to the seller, but benefits to the purchaser is that you might get a lower price.

That is what I mean when I say it is counterproductive for Disney to fight against resale prices. They should try to raise them, not lower them. If they DO succeed in making resales 'worth less' then they actually are driving down the prices and making resales even better. If you could buy points on the cheap, you could still, ALWAYS use them to stay at your home resort, and the cheaper the price, the better they will look to you!

If Disney welcomed Resales with open arms, they could increase the value of their Direct sales in 2 ways. First, Resales would COST MORE, and would be less attractive compared to the Direct price, and this would drive people towards Direct purchase. Secondly, they would be able to show potential buyers, "Look. LOOK at how much you could possibly sell if for, if you DID need to sell it." That is a very reassuring thing to buyers and could make them want to buy. But, instead, Disney not only villainizes resales, they can't even mention high resale prices in their sales presentations, because they are fighting against that so much. They are hurting themselves and don't even know it.

Benefits still bestowed on resale are Top of the World Lounge, pool hopping and DVD rental.

Those who purchase after the January change may use their resale points to book any of the original 14 DVC resorts when the 7 month booking window opens, subject to availability. They may access the TOTWL lounge (at BLT), except on black out days, when it's open only for DVC members actually staying at BLT. They may also pool hop. They may exchange their points for something available via RCI. That's about it.

Resale points purchased after the January change may not be used to book DRR or any of the options available via the DISNEY Collection (includes DCL), the Concierge Collection or Adventures By Disney. They are not eligible for Member Cruises, Moonlight Magic, discounts (including reduced price for select annual passes) or anything else that is part of Membership Extras.

Not buying direct means you’ll resell your “resale DVC” at a better percentage (or possibly at a profit) when (or if) you do indeed, resell your resale.

I would never buy direct, even if I had contemplated it previously. Buying at direct prices is a guarantee of a huge loss of a large percentage of the principal when you do resell. No amount of RCI, 20% restaurant discount, membership magic nights that I never go to... or $150pp annual pass discount would make up for that. Hope that makes sense!

That is exactly why I am waiting to buy Riviera at Resales:

1. Low prices, because of what Disney is doing to try to 'stop it.'

2. You can still use them at Riviera, no matter what. Many people will want to stay at Riviera and if you can't get the reservation you want in the 7 to 11 month window at Riviera (maybe you can't plan that far ahead?) you will still be able to rent them out to people to get your many back. This is a great fallback option.

3. Points purchased at resale for Riviera will still have most of a 50 year period in which they could be used. That is a long time to get benefit from some cheap points.

4. Maybe (and I don't count on this at all, but it could happen) Disney will wake up, realize they are just hurting themselves and embrace resales and remove some of the resales restrictions.

5. Best of all, if you can buy them cheap, then there is much less potential downside, while it will remain likely that you could always sell them for what you paid for them, or more, because they were purchased for a lot less than Direct prices. The 'overhead loss' from Purchasing direct won't apply to you! You are likely to be much better off in the long run.

I have been bummed out that I couldn't buy Riviera, when I had hoped and planned for it for a long time, until Disney started getting hinky. I really did want to own there so I could stay there whenever I wanted. But then I realized that the restrictions are actually my friend. They are actually going to be good for me. I will STILL be able to own and stay at Riviera, as I wanted, and I will be able to do so on the cheap! And with a much better financial picture!
