Jason's drink -
It had Gin and lemon-thyme and some flower pedals!
sonoma09104.jpg

Menu - you can do 5 or 8 courses with or without wine pairing and then you can add an GRAND wine tasting. We did the 8 course (because I am oink oink :drinking1) and the wine tasting. The GRAND was an additional $185

I am not adding the wines .. if anyone has questions I can let you know about that later!

Menu:

Canapés - they bring out a 3 layered server and they explain that these 5 items are supposed to hit all senses -sweet,salty,bitter,sour and umami
Part of this was the beer drop for bitter, they did a pickled leeches for sour, A salted pretzel filled with mustard for salty, a tomato liquid filled with basil in a parmesan cheese crisp for umami and a yellow beet with red beet sauce for sweet!

Amuse Bouche-
Grilled peaches with a yogurt smear and baby greens

1st course - Olive oil poached king salmon, tomato coulis and pickled cucumber!

The fish was perfect and the soup (coulis) was the best tomato soup EVER!
It was cold and could have had some cream in it! :rotfl:

2nd course (we had to choose so we each got a different one)

Jason-Foie Gras Torchon with Tamarind and Dates
This was the best Foie I have ever had .. just a big hug from Mr. Goose!

Chelsi- Abalone with Hijiki noodles and snow peas!
My dad used to dive for abalone when I was VERY little and now you can't get it too easy because of over farming. This was as good as I have ever had!

3rd course - Japanese Sea Bass with Corn and Scallions and ginger-shisho dashi!
I loved this so much that the people next to me had to order it because I guess I was a little loud on how good it was! :headache: It was that good! The poured the broth over in front of you so you get this amazing smell! UGH! I want it now!

4th course - Duck Breast with Rosti potatoes and peppers with Sherry Jus
Amazing - cooked perfect.. though I do like duck a lot!

5th course was another choice but we both got the same thing -
Cyrus BLT

I can't even tell you how good this was - the B was Pork Belly cooked 36 hours and it was sticky with pork and glaze (:yay:) and the L- was braised in butter iceberg lettuce and the T- was tomatoes three ways, homegrown heirloom, sauce, and fried green with homemade buttermilk dressing! :cloud9:

Then a palate cleaner that looked like a gumdrop but was a frozen blood orange and pear sorbet on a stick! SO CUTE and good!

Then the CHEESE! We had to take a picture as we left for myself and Brenda! The sommelier picked out 6 cheese for us to try and asked if we wanted red, white or dessert wine with the cheese. We both got red and told him we like all cheeses. They were all amazing but one about killed Jason. He is new to the stink fest of cheese and he gave us one that was covered under glass for a reason! Feet from the gym are apple pie compared! :scared1: It even scared me!

sonoma09108.jpg

Then they did the cookie magic at the table! :flower3:

After they made us mini chocolate seltzers table side!

7th course - Cherry and Pistachio Ice Cream Sandwich this was just great!
8th course - Chocolate Cake with Watermelon - cake was so good and the watermelon was pickled, sauced, fresh, and jellied! so cool!

At the end they bring you a bag with two hot wrapped brownies and a copy of your menu. Then they wheel you over the dessert tray for take home truffles, jellies, lollypops, cookies...

You leave Full -Happy and Tipsy!

Thank you for my welcome home wishes!:goodvibes We had a great time but it's always nice to be home too! I miss the cats and my own bed!

Here are some food and other pics from the trip -

1st here is our cat Kabuki - she hurt her back legs just before the 4th and has had her tower taken away so she can't jump too much - but her look is the normal "leave me alone" face she always has!:rotfl:

OK on to what you want -FOOD!:yay:
PLEASE..two of my favorite things...cats and food :) you are my hero:goodvibes
Thanks, Chelsi.

I had lunch at Todd English's Olives™ (you didn't think I'd leave out the trademark, did you?) in Las Vegas in Jan 2007, and my experience was different. I thought it was fairly empty in there during lunch, but the food was fantastic. I had a tuna carpaccio appetizer that was fairly good, but the main course was the best. Butternut squash ravioli in a brown butter sage sauce. It was really nice with a glass of Conundrum. :goodvibes I can't believe I remembered this, because I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday! :rotfl2:

I've already picked some restaurants I want to try during my birthday celebratory gluttonfest. I'm going to L'Atelier on my actual birthday, and on "show nights", we're eating at places located close to the shows. So we've got Emeril's Table 10 (do I trademark him?), Stripsteak, and Mesa Grill.
YUM..that sounds really good..i was looking at PRIME today online..looks good, but a typical pricey steakhouse..i think we need to look at some of the bad boys on your list!

My Drink -Its the Watermelon one with Old Bay! SO GOOD! :dance3: They also have a silver staw with a point at the end so it's cold when you drink and you can pick all the bits out!

sonoma09105.jpg
A-FLIPPEN-MAZING!!! And that straw!?? BRILLIANT! more more more....:thumbsup2..edit: you did just add more as i was posting..AWESOME..i MUST go there at some point in my life..even if its just for the cookie magic!! thank you for sharing!

Here is some photos from Yelp to help you get the idea! We were bad with the pictures because we just wanted to enjoy and not get stuck in the picture mode.

Here are some pictures from Mustard's Grill - if anyone is watching Top Chef Masters this is Cindy Pawlcyn place in Napa! Food is fantastic. We have eaten at her places a few times and it is always good! She showed about 1/2 through our meal too which is always nice to see she is still caring!

sonoma09160.jpg

Please go sometime! EVERYONE! It really was worth every bit! MA Pigletfan -tell them it's a birthday or something because I hear the cookie magic or something always happens. The couple next to us was very upset when they didn't get the chocolate balloon!

Hey stranger! Nice to see you here again. The buttons are $3 each ... I will mail yours out this week.

I don't like olives either but I actually do like olive oil ... go figure. :rolleyes1 Going to Crete would be awesome ... is your company hiring? :rotfl2:

Let me go once and then I'll see if I can take guests... ;).... think Jay will hate you for running off with another one of your crazy nutcase Dis friends???

Ohhh 2 plankys do Crete... this could be dangersous...

Yay! You're back!!! :goodvibes

Glad to know you had a good time. And mark your calendar if you can join us ... Saturday night around 8PM CST we're going to have a wine party here. Everyone brings their own bottle and we're going to share tasting notes and food pairings and chat and just generally be friendly ... it's what the friendies do. :thumbsup2

Can it be crappy wine? :rotfl:

:lmao: That's exactly what Jay said when I told him I was going to spill the beans.

He racked up most of his posts stirring the pot here on the community board last year when people were still allowed to talk about those topics-that-must-not-be-named. ;)

tell him to go and rile up the masses again... who said we can't talk about sports...

On the way in we stopped at Taylors Automatic Refresher for lunch! This is the one at the Napa Oxbow Market which is VERY cool!

sonoma09008.jpg

I had the regular burger which is great! Jason had the WISCONSIN SOURDOUGH
A burger with grilled mushrooms, bacon, cheddar cheese,
mayo & BBQ sauce on grilled sourdough.

We also had Sweet Potato Fries that are Fantastic!

Then it was off to Sonoma!

We did A LOT of wine stopping for pictures and tastes but I wont add all of them for you. Then it would be like a trip to your Aunt and Uncles house for travel slides - "yep it's another vine"!

Ok... I'm just jealous of it all... and I'm taking notes...

and to think... last time I was in Napa I had a sandwich in St. Helena... :confused3 :rotfl:

Chelsi, All of your pics are wonderful! What a wonderful time you two must have had. Cyrus just flat out blows me away! Thanks!

We feel the same way about Cyrus -blown away!
Did you see the chef from Cochone will be at the F&W?! I am so excited! This is a place I really want to do next time I am in your area!

Yes! It was on DD&D! The original is a little drive up that is SO busy since it's been on that show that you have to wait over an hour for your food since they make it all as you order. This is a few miles south and you don't usually have to wait and the food is the same!
We have a burger place in San Diego that we have eaten at for 15 years that has been on that show and picked as one of Guy Fierri's Fav. foods with bacon and now we can't get in! The good and the bad! Dang! Now I was Hodads!

Yes I did notice that. I'm glad we have someone who can really represent true Cajun food!
But to be honest, I'm holding a grudge against Cochon! :headache:
About a month ago we made a resv. there. DH had a customer from England, the guy had been hitting all the tourist places & wanted something different. Well the day of our ressie one of the other guys in the office asked to join us. DH called mid-morning to add one to the resv & was rudely told there was no way they could do it. He asked for the manager & she was almost as rude. So we ended up going to a little hole in the wall place & a had a great time anyway.

THIS is what happened last Thursday up at the lake...

And to think.. I missed an opportunity to get Planky's picture with the Sheriff's officer... :headache:

We went up to the lake yesterday to see our friends who were staying at our old place where we used to rent... the place is not "in business" anymore they just rent to whomever they want...

Well, the new owner has, lets just say... a reputation for causing problems... One of my friends had told his wife that we would be there this week to visit and that we would be spending the day there... She said fine... Her husband has in the past gotten into screaming fits and even a fist fight or so with people and he is famous for calling in the sheriffs office when ever he feels he wants to...

I went swimming... not knowing, because no one was told, that he doesn't have insurance to allow "strange people" to swim off his beach. If he had told me, I'd have said "fine" and I would have gone next door to where I also have friends... But he didn't. (personally I don't think he has enough coverage for the people staying there now either...)

He called the sheriffs office... now you have to realize that this coward didn't even have the gumption to get off his butt and walk the MAYBE 150 feet to come and just let us know what was what. I would have been fine with that... but no... he called the sheriff (who wasn't happy to be there himself....)

The sheriff had to come all the way down to the beach... (I'm out on the swim raft) (He called because he couldn't identify the "strange woman" on his swim raft) (he DOES know me... & he knows my car (which was parked right next to where he was working...I used to stay there when he rented out the place (that was before the fist fights...) (which I was not involved in...)

The officer talked to my friend, who we were guests of... and told her that we couldn't stay. So... we packed everything up.

MOM, on the other hand is humiliated and quite hurt because all of the other friends (who we have known for over 30 years...) could not get their butts out of their beach chairs to come and even say goodbye to her. Their "reservation" for the cabins seems to be much more important to them than my mother. They essentially ignored us while we were leaving.

She even went to talk to Len (the bad guy) and as soon as he saw her coming - he turned and went inside... he was afraid of her.

I am of course pissed... (sorry, I just am... ) and spent the entire ride, jokingly trying to come up with ways of making them appreciate us (payback) since the cabin I want to buy backs up to their property....

I have decided to paint the cabin flamingo pink...

Blast LYNYRD SKYNYRD's Freebird constantly from the hours of 10 am to 10PM daily until they get sick of it, then I will switch over to Disco because we are destined to order a disco ball and strobe lights to hang in the bushes around the cabin...

I haven't decided yet if my "NO TRESSPASSING" sign is going to be Neon or just VERY BIG...

we thought I might buy the property across the road and erect a very large image of me on a billboard posing in front of the Hamilton County Sheriffs car... in a bikini :eek::eek: :lmao::lmao::lmao:

And then I just decided that I should invite Sukie and let him have a fashion show each day on the beach (Ian... I'll pay to ship in whatever he needs...does he own a speedo?) That should scare some of them...

I know there were other suggestions... but in real life, I plan on composing a nice letter to the Hamilton County Sheriff (Doug Parker) (who is related to 1/2of the people who I know up there...) and aplogize to them for having to drag them away from the important work that they do each day, just so they can come and tell a 77 year old woman that her daughter is "strange" & is swimming illegally.:rolleyes1 (ok... I'll use different words...)

I feel bad that he felt he had to call the sheriff's office because Hamilton County is the largest county in NY and it is also the smallest population so they don't have too many officers to patrol over several hundred square miles... So... I'm going to apologize and then I am going to send a copy of it to Len's WIFE - who really owns the property. I'm not the only one he has done this to... I personally have 3 friends he has done this to.

So... that was our day... & I don't think I will be going back up to the lake to stay for this summer at least... (I might take a day trip to go to the craft fair... )

THIS is what happened last Thursday up at the lake...

And to think.. I missed an opportunity to get Planky's picture with the Sheriff's officer... :headache:

What the what?! Sounds like this guy is the "strange" one wandering around-someone should call the sherriff on him.

Chelsi, your food porn from Mustard's Grill and Cyrus was totally mouthwatering. I'll have to remember those two places for future trips out to California.

OMG... this guy is a whack job. Sorry you and your mom had that experience. On the up side, you two ladies must be some bad a** women if he was afraid of you. I guess its a compliment in some sick twisted way.

Shovan that is HORRIBLE! I am happy you ended up in a good place but with times the way they are I don't care how much good press you get - you should be doing what you can and nice! I hope it hasn't become too big for itself!
