I'm late to the party again, huh? I spent all day yesterday catching up on all the work and chores I missed while I was sick. One day off, and everything falls apart!

Thanks, once again, for all the anniversary wishes! Bob never did figure it out! :rotfl: But once Kristin told him we were going out for dinner in CELEBRATION he looked at his watch and said, "Oh, darn!" Well, he didn't say that, but you get the picture. I will share food porn and our schedule tomorrow as I have had a little bit too much beer to drink tonight! :goodvibes

Elin, that is too funny!

Thanks! I am off to check this out. Of course I have to get the green light from my kitchen snob son. All kitchen product must have his stamp of approval. :confused3 Sounds like a great deal to me.

I don't know if you checked it out yet but I just re-read my post and realized I said it was Williams-Sonoma brand....it's not....it's Cuisinart available at W-S. It's on the main page when you go to the website...

The game started 90 minutes later than it was supposed to due to rain delays ... we had a good time but left after 5 innings (it was already 10PM). Now that we're home the score has changed from 0-0 to 10-0 Cardinals, so at least the good guys are winning even if we didn't get to see any of it. We had a good time with our friends, so that counts for a lot!

You guys wanna now how bad traffic in Stinktown is? It's a 45-mile drive from our house to the stadium - on the drive downtown we were delayed by seven different traffic incidents ... four accidents and three stalls all on the same stretch of highway. There were two more on our way home from the stadium tonight. :headache:

I sometimes wonder if the problem is that many of these people have family trees that don't fork. ;););)

Well, I'm not much of a baseball fan (I boycotted ML baseball when they struck during the world series back in the mid-90's and haven't gone back...that'll teach 'em!:)), but when we go to our minor league games here in G'boro, we usually end up socializing, eating and drinking way more than we watch the game...and that's usually more entertaining!

We had a good time with better than average food and beer last night. It was our first foray into a new “authentic British Pub” in our ‘burg.

Atmosphere was great with light fixtures that caught the eye, lots of wood and a fun ceiling!

Unbeknownst to us we had arrived during Happy Hour so our pints were half price (the better to drink two, you know!) Most of my pictures are not particularly good and I will skip the worst of the lot!

Boddington’s….. yum!

We had an interesting appetizer: Tavern Crisps ~ House-made crisps (potato chips) topped with English farmhouse Cheddar, bacon, scallions and Pub BBQ sauce. The crisps were crispy and the toppings were plentiful.

Kristin had a Cotswold Chicken Sandwich made with a Worcestershire-marinated chicken breast, rashers of bacon, grilled onions and Swiss Cheese on a toasted onion bun. It came with a pickle and chips (big fries). No photo. It looked nice, she liked it, it was eaten!

Bob and I each chose the Fish and Chips. It was as good as Rose & Crown’s. I have had better, but this was good. No complaints at all.

We all split a Guinness Brownie Sundae that was fine. Very dense, dark chocolate brownie. Almost like a flourless cake in texture. It came with vanilla-bean ice cream, chocolate sauce and almonds. Again, nice but not amazing.

We got exactly what we were after. Nice food, good beer and a fun location to spend a couple of hours. The price was very good, we thought. The total bill (without gratuity) was under $70. We will go again. They have an amazing bar but the pictures are just awful:
I will try to rectify that next time. ;)

Yummy! I love pub food (thanks to my 99% Celtic genes), and wish we had some place like this here.

Sounds like you had a great time! And I thought your pictures were good, and looked yummy. :goodvibes

I have always wanted to try Boddington's, ever since I've seen it featured on an episode of Friends. But I can't find it for sale anywhere without buying a whole case, and I just don't drink that much beer.

Buy a case....you'll love it!! Although it's much better if you can find it on draft somewhere.

Is anyone watching the Next Food Network Star? We just had dinner at one of the chef's restaurant. It is called Graham Elliot and the chef is Graham Elliot Bowles. It was really good, starting with a lollipop made of Mousse of Fois gras, dipped in a pop rocks candy. Instead of bread, a basket of popcorn that was sprinkled with parmesan and truffle oil.

I ate duck with black rice that was great. Everyone thought the dinner was great. I'm not good at descriptions, so here is the web site:

http://www.grahamelliot.com/

I watch NFNS star too....I am hoping that Melissa wins. I think that there's more room for her in their line-up of cooking shows than there is for Jeffrey. That whole south of the border thing he does is already covered by Flay.

I have some sad news to share.

I spoke to my mom about an hour ago, and found out my dog, (who was really my grandma's dog,) passed away this morning.

Needless to say I am heartbroken about this. He was like the last piece of my grandma I had left, and I am just so sad he's gone.

I can't say this was unexpected however, since he was born in 1993, so he was obviously an old dog, with a full life. And he was doing poorly the last few weeks. My sister said a month ago she'd be suprised if he lasted another week, and my dad said he'd probably die by the end of the month.

He was just such a good dog. I remember always coming over to Grandma's house when I was little, and he would always be so excited to see me. He still was always excited to see me, even Friday, (the last time I saw him,) when I had gone over to my parents house, and he had been outside limping around. I had gone to put my stuff down inside, and he tried to hurry up to keep up with me, while I was trying to get him to not follow me so I could go back out and carry him in.

It's weird though, he was doing fine until my grandma died, and then it's like he knew that she was gone, and that's when I started noticing a steady decline in him. Like he held out just for Grandma, who always worried so much about that dog.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I totally agree with everyone here who says that animals have a sixth sense about that kind of thing. The same thing happened with my grandfather's cat.....he died within a few months of my grandfather dying....somehow, he just knew he was gone.

Last night we (all 4 of us) went to dinner at Zink. American Kitchen in uptown Charlotte and then to see Mama Mia. It was excellent, all of it!

Here is a descprition of the restauants:

Because of timing, (work, traffic & show start time) we didn't have as much time for dinner as we would have liked. Sadly we had to skip appys & dessert, but the entrees were awesome.

Menu

DS12 (Jason) got the filet wrapped in back from the Chefs Menu, (without the 1st & 3rd course) and they very kindly put the sauces on the side so he could try them without being locked into it. Good thing, because he didn't care for the wine sauces and there was no way he'd try the bleu cheese topping. Filet was cooked as ordered, and the smokiness of the bacon was wonderful. The steak fries were huge spears and very good :thumbsup2 He did a good job eating most of his meal and really liked it.

DD15 (Megan) tried the meatloaf, which our waitress had said was unlike anything else ever called meatloaf. She was right, and DD loved it! It was beef short ribs, pork & bacon ground up and layered to form a meatloaf. Served with a twice baked mashed potato and a couple of onion rings on top of the meatloaf. There wasn't anything left on the plate except for one onion ring :goodvibes

DH (Jon) went with the scallops after our waitress described the creamed corn it came with. Huge Maine scallops, crisp on the outside but not overcooked! Corn was yummy! Not only did he clear his plate, he did help DD & DS, "trying" their meals ;)

My meal isn't on the menu, it was the special of the night. Grilled skirt steak with balsamic & boursin cheese on top, served with heirloom tomatoes & mozzerella salad. I was very happy. The tomatoes were wonderful and the steak was cooked perfect.

I know you're all asking "where are the pics", but I didn't take any  Where we were eating was a last minute decision and I didn't even think to grab the camera :sad2: This was a neat restaurant, love the decor & vibe and the food :goodvibes

Oh, Mama Mia was awesome! Even Jason rocked along with it :woohoo:

Only complaint of the night is that stuffy bank city Charlotte closes down at night. Some of the bars were open after the show (an improvement) but there was no where to get coffee & dessert :headache: I just don't understand why the restaurants next to and across the street from the theater don't stay open later on a show night :confused3

Chelle, that sounds so yummy. I remember reading about Zink (maybe in SL), but we get down to Charlotte so rarely, and when we do, it's usually to go to someplace where a 5 year old and an 18 month old can have a meltdown without us feeling like we need to slink out the back door with our tails tucked between our legs.:lmao:

I may be confused since I haven't had my coffee yet, but someone sent your hubby a birthday present that's actually for your cat? Or did you artfully hide the excess shirt material before snapping the picture?

Either way your cat is beautiful. :lovestruc

It is a little pet jersey. All of my SIL's gifts for the Spouse's birthday were for the cat.:lmao: When ever we visit them, he's always talking about the little man, worrying about him home alone, and talking about how good looking the cat is. Our nephews decided that this year their uncle was getting toys for the cat and my SIL went along with it. It was the Spouse's best birthday ever, he thought it was funny to get cat stuff, since he doesn't need anything anyways.

And I'm continually amazed by the number of Cardinal Nation folks who've moved out West. I guess when you leave MO for the west coast you've moved wester. :rotfl2: I have some extended family that I only met one time who moved to areas in Anaheim and Manhattan Beach. I visited once ... once (haha ... I'm channeling Danny Vermin this morning) ... I missed the open green space that we have here in Stinktown, and the comparatively clean air. ;)

He's parents moved him when he was 8 or something, so he's been here 30 years. He talks about moving back (for more affordable housing), but I know it's really to get season tickets. I just tell him I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground, before I recognize Missourah!:rotfl:

Good morning!!
Fun news...i booked a Keys to the Kingdom Tour last night!!! SOO excited. We are planning on doing it the morning of our last full day at WDW...i have wanted to do this tour for a long time..has anyone here done it before? Did you like it? I know it will be a lot of things I already know about, but i still thought there is always more to learn about MK!!!

I have done it and really enjoyed it! Congrats for booking it. I don't think you will be disappointed in the least.

Hey y'all, It is practically impossible to keep up on here! Y'all just chat too da** much! ;)

Thought I'd share some pics from our trip to the Biltmore Winery yesterday.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Those pics are giving me . :goodvibes

I have some sad news to share.

I spoke to my mom about an hour ago, and found out my dog, (who was really my grandma's dog,) passed away this morning.

I'm very sorry.

On a totally different subject ... my husband probably wants to kill me.

I told him tonight that I really wish we could add on October 13th to our stay for a total of 11 nights because I'd love love love to attend the signature dinner at Raglan Road. He is, with good reason, entirely opposed to a one-night cash outlay just so we can indulge in another gluttonous dinner. :rotfl2:

Jay doesn't put his foot down often but when he does, it leaves a really big footprint. :lmao:

:lmao: Brenda, I truly feel your pain! You should have seen Bob's face when I hinted at going back in November to catch Andrea I. Robinson! I think he was considering putting tire tracks on me!

Well, what I would really love to do is to stay clear through October 16th so we could see Spyro Gyra. myBob likes them too but not enough to stay an additional 8 nights. How heavenly would THAT be?!? :cloud9: Hmmm... I wonder if he would go back? :scratchin :lmao:

We are arriving on the 15th, my Bob was very exicted to catch Spyro Gyra. He had to play some of thier music to revive my memory. Myself, I would have been happier seeing Better than Ezra.

Wow, what a great night you had, I would love to see Mama Mia!!!!!:goodvibes

If I were to open a restaurant it would be called "Just Desserts" or "After the Show" and would be open from 8 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. We would serve only desserts (could include cheese plates here) and coffees, teas and wines. I have actually toyed with this idea a lot.

Excellent idea!!!!!:thumbsup2

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I just wish there was something I could do. When my grandmother died there was plenty of stuff to do, like calling people, and going through her stuff, etc, to keep busy with.

So on the upside I'm just going to bury myself with trip planning, though there is really nothing else left to plan for my next trip, except I have to call for the F&W stuff on 8/11, and then I am going to finish my last set of dining reviews before going again.

We are planning on doing it in September, I'm really looking forward to it!

Well myDBob would not be happy if we did. He said "Better than Who?"

Well, I would suggest that we trades Bobs, but then myBob wouldn't be happy either. ;) :rotfl2:

Elin ... if you guys are going to stay through the 16th you might as well extend it through the 17th so you can join the rest of us for some cake! :thumbsup2

Do you think we could trade both Bobs for younger versions!;)

I have no desire to train another one, do you??

There would be no 37th anniversary if I did that. :sad2:

Well, it seems Disney needs our money. They posted a 26% loss last quarter. :(

Well, it seems Disney needs our money. They posted a 26% loss last quarter. :(

I haven't looked at their financials but I'm not surprised. But how much of that is self-inflicted?

They've offered some ridiculous promotions / discounts all year ... they sacrificed their profit margins just to be able to say that their hotel occupancy and theme park attendance were "stable" and rolled the dice that once all those people got to WDW they would spend money that they didn't have.

If they had left a lot of their promotions off the table and just offered room discounts, they might have had smaller crowds but they also might have had more discretionary spending in the parks and restaurants by those people who were still visiting.

I'm just speculating. But we see it a lot in some of our commercial customers in this kind of downtown. They slash their prices to drive up volume and end up sacrificing their profit and operating margins.

And now they'll increase ticket prices again because they won't be able to think of anything better to do to turn the numbers around.

OK ... I'm done soapboxing ... for now. ;)
