I'm late to the party again, huh? I spent all day yesterday catching up on all the work and chores I missed while I was sick. One day off, and everything falls apart!

Well, I'm not much of a baseball fan (I boycotted ML baseball when they struck during the world series back in the mid-90's and haven't gone back...that'll teach 'em!
), but when we go to our minor league games here in G'boro, we usually end up socializing, eating and drinking way more than we watch the game...and that's usually more entertaining!

I watch NFNS star too....I am hoping that Melissa wins. I think that there's more room for her in their line-up of cooking shows than there is for Jeffrey. That whole south of the border thing he does is already covered by Flay.
I'm so sorry for your loss! I totally agree with everyone here who says that animals have a sixth sense about that kind of thing. The same thing happened with my grandfather's cat.....he died within a few months of my grandfather dying....somehow, he just knew he was gone.

I remember reading about Zink (maybe in SL), but we get down to Charlotte so rarely, and when we do, it's usually to go to someplace where a 5 year old and an 18 month old can have a meltdown without us feeling like we need to slink out the back door with our tails tucked between our legs.

The game started 90 minutes later than it was supposed to due to rain delays ... we had a good time but left after 5 innings (it was already 10PM). Now that we're home the score has changed from 0-0 to 10-0 Cardinals, so at least the good guys are winning even if we didn't get to see any of it. We had a good time with our friends, so that counts for a lot!
You guys wanna now how bad traffic in Stinktown is? It's a 45-mile drive from our house to the stadium - on the drive downtown we were delayed by seven different traffic incidents ... four accidents and three stalls all on the same stretch of highway. There were two more on our way home from the stadium tonight.
I sometimes wonder if the problem is that many of these people have family trees that don't fork.![]()

We had a good time with better than average food and beer last night. It was our first foray into a new authentic British Pub in our burg.
Atmosphere was great with light fixtures that caught the eye, lots of wood and a fun ceiling!
Unbeknownst to us we had arrived during Happy Hour so our pints were half price (the better to drink two, you know!) Most of my pictures are not particularly good and I will skip the worst of the lot!
Boddingtons .. yum!
We had an interesting appetizer: Tavern Crisps ~ House-made crisps (potato chips) topped with English farmhouse Cheddar, bacon, scallions and Pub BBQ sauce. The crisps were crispy and the toppings were plentiful.
Kristin had a Cotswold Chicken Sandwich made with a Worcestershire-marinated chicken breast, rashers of bacon, grilled onions and Swiss Cheese on a toasted onion bun. It came with a pickle and chips (big fries). No photo. It looked nice, she liked it, it was eaten!
Bob and I each chose the Fish and Chips. It was as good as Rose & Crowns. I have had better, but this was good. No complaints at all.
We all split a Guinness Brownie Sundae that was fine. Very dense, dark chocolate brownie. Almost like a flourless cake in texture. It came with vanilla-bean ice cream, chocolate sauce and almonds. Again, nice but not amazing.
We got exactly what we were after. Nice food, good beer and a fun location to spend a couple of hours. The price was very good, we thought. The total bill (without gratuity) was under $70. We will go again. They have an amazing bar but the pictures are just awful:

I have always wanted to try Boddington's, ever since I've seen it featured on an episode of Friends. But I can't find it for sale anywhere without buying a whole case, and I just don't drink that much beer.

Is anyone watching the Next Food Network Star? We just had dinner at one of the chef's restaurant. It is called Graham Elliot and the chef is Graham Elliot Bowles. It was really good, starting with a lollipop made of Mousse of Fois gras, dipped in a pop rocks candy. Instead of bread, a basket of popcorn that was sprinkled with parmesan and truffle oil.
I ate duck with black rice that was great. Everyone thought the dinner was great. I'm not good at descriptions, so here is the web site:

I have some sad news to share.
I spoke to my mom about an hour ago, and found out my dog, (who was really my grandma's dog,) passed away this morning.
Needless to say I am heartbroken about this. He was like the last piece of my grandma I had left, and I am just so sad he's gone.
I can't say this was unexpected however, since he was born in 1993, so he was obviously an old dog, with a full life. And he was doing poorly the last few weeks. My sister said a month ago she'd be suprised if he lasted another week, and my dad said he'd probably die by the end of the month.
He was just such a good dog. I remember always coming over to Grandma's house when I was little, and he would always be so excited to see me. He still was always excited to see me, even Friday, (the last time I saw him,) when I had gone over to my parents house, and he had been outside limping around. I had gone to put my stuff down inside, and he tried to hurry up to keep up with me, while I was trying to get him to not follow me so I could go back out and carry him in.
It's weird though, he was doing fine until my grandma died, and then it's like he knew that she was gone, and that's when I started noticing a steady decline in him. Like he held out just for Grandma, who always worried so much about that dog.

Last night we (all 4 of us) went to dinner at Zink. American Kitchen in uptown Charlotte and then to see Mama Mia. It was excellent, all of it!

Because of timing, (work, traffic & show start time) we didn't have as much time for dinner as we would have liked. Sadly we had to skip appys & dessert, but the entrees were awesome.

DS12 (Jason) got the filet wrapped in back from the Chefs Menu, (without the 1st & 3rd course) and they very kindly put the sauces on the side so he could try them without being locked into it. Good thing, because he didn't care for the wine sauces and there was no way he'd try the bleu cheese topping. Filet was cooked as ordered, and the smokiness of the bacon was wonderful. The steak fries were huge spears and very goodHe did a good job eating most of his meal and really liked it.
DD15 (Megan) tried the meatloaf, which our waitress had said was unlike anything else ever called meatloaf. She was right, and DD loved it! It was beef short ribs, pork & bacon ground up and layered to form a meatloaf. Served with a twice baked mashed potato and a couple of onion rings on top of the meatloaf. There wasn't anything left on the plate except for one onion ring
DH (Jon) went with the scallops after our waitress described the creamed corn it came with. Huge Maine scallops, crisp on the outside but not overcooked! Corn was yummy! Not only did he clear his plate, he did help DD & DS, "trying" their meals
My meal isn't on the menu, it was the special of the night. Grilled skirt steak with balsamic & boursin cheese on top, served with heirloom tomatoes & mozzerella salad. I was very happy. The tomatoes were wonderful and the steak was cooked perfect.
I know you're all asking "where are the pics", but I didn't take anyWhere we were eating was a last minute decision and I didn't even think to grab the camera
This was a neat restaurant, love the decor & vibe and the food

Only complaint of the night is that stuffy bank city Charlotte closes down at night. Some of the bars were open after the show (an improvement) but there was no where to get coffee & dessertI just don't understand why the restaurants next to and across the street from the theater don't stay open later on a show night
