Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

We've got a couple of tasty rib-eyes to grill for dinner along with some hotdogs (great combo, huh?). Bought some cheeses and some jalapeno / cheddar cheese summer sausage ... some crackers and fresh bread ... also have some specialty mac and cheese from Dean & Deluca. Gonna finish the night off with some french silk pie (chocolate ... yum!).

Tomorrow we're going to have dinner at the Scottish Arms ... haggis fritters for all!!! :lmao:

Sounds very yummy (especially the french silk pie :cloud9:). I've got rib eyes out, but think I'll wait till tomorrow to grill them. DD & I went to the neighborhood pool opening party and ate a bunch of junk (sliders, hotdogs, pasta salad, cookies & ice cream from Marble Slab w/ toppings:cloud9:) I don't want dinner now :sad2:

We'll take some pictures and share the food love that way. :cloud9:

I do think you will like our kahlua coladas ... too bad you don't live closer you could just stop on by for some cheese and booze!

Actually, after checking the kitchen ... it's a good thing you don't live nearby. We don't have any pineapple juice which means we don't have no stinkin coladas tonight ... :rotfl2:

hmmm, now what am I going to drink tonight? :confused3

We grilled out tonight, too--burgers and hotdogs, yum! Funny you all are talking about ribeyes, that's what I told dh to get for Monday. I'm ready for a day to relax, but it ain't coming until Thursday when school is finally out! :cheer2: This time of the year just wears me out with all the school stuff, dance stuff and stuff stuff, you know? Somebody have a drink for me tonight! I did get the invitations out for my parents party and the scrapbook is almost DONE--I'm up to 2004, whew!

Brenda, I advise just pouring that Kahlua over some ice cream and having it with the silk pie!

Ok, we're going to Dollywood with friends tomorrow, so I won't be back on till Monday night probably. Everybody have a good weekend!

Safe travels whomom! :goodvibes

We're saving the steak for Monday now. We're just having cheese, snausages, hotdogs, and ...

STRONGBOW CIDER!!! :thumbsup2

I forgot to mention that we found a store that was carrying a four-pack and we snatched it right up. Drinking it right now and it tastes so so good!

Here are some random things that take place quite frequently in our subdivision that often leave us scratching our heads ... if anyone can shed light on these practices I, for one, would really appreciate it. :lmao:

1) Why do people mow their lawns at 8AM in the morning on the weekends or at 8PM at night right after you've opened your windows to enjoy some fresh air? I realize in the summer this is probably to avoid the heat of midday, but there are two flaws with that ... the weather has been quite mild this month and by the time high summer rolls around in Stinktown everyone's yard is brown and crispy - you don't need to mow it because it's dormant.

2) Why do people keep their garbage cans outside of their garages along the side of their homes? Aside from the entertainment of letting their trash (which they apparently do not put in garbage bags) blow into our yard on pickup day I don't understand this one bit. Then again, most of these folks have so much crap in their garages that they can't park their vehicles in them, so perhaps there isn't enough space for their waste and that's just sad.

3) Why do people think it's OK for their children to play in the street? They all have yards .. many of them fenced ... why do they not play in their yards? Have I misunderstood the purpose of the fences, which was not to keep the children in but to keep them out? Streets are for cars and trucks and delivery vans, not for stickball, tennis, kickball, soccer, and scooter racing.

4) In conjunction with question #3, why do the children in our neighborhood never show their faces much before the sun dips below the horizon? Are they vampire children? This morning was a beautiful, mild, stunning Saturday ... Jay and I went for a 4-mile walk ... we saw two kids the entire time. When I was a youngster this was the kind of day that saw me leave the apartment (yes, I lived in an apartment until I was 14 and my mom re-married) by 9AM not to return until dinner. Are they all afraid of solar exposure? Wind burn? Social interaction? What gives?

5) Why do people grill in their driveway? They all have back patios and many have decks ... so why in Gawd's name are they dragging their grills into their driveways and grilling dinner there? Is this supposed to inspire beef, chicken, or grill envy?

I'm just talking to talk ...

we changed our plans a little for June when we were given a flyer at the Smokehouse Market / Annie Gunn's about a wine dinner they're hosting on June 9th.

It's like karma or something. :rotfl2:

So instead of attending a $65 per person meal on the 18th of June ... we're going to attend a $125 per person wine dinner instead. Not the best way to save money, but WOWSER ... what a menu.

Lemme share ...

It's gonna stink getting up the next morning to go to work but I'll make that sacrifice. :rotfl2:

I don't think there is a real answer to any of your questions. Because you are 100% on the money :thumbsup2

We had dinner tonight at CA Pizza Kitchen ... shared some hummus, munched some pizza, drank some sangria ... :cool1: Then we went to Williams Sonoma where we had to practically beg someone to help us spend money.

I guess they're not used to people buying stuff on Friday nights. :lmao:

I have a list for that store... someday they will let me in... :rotfl:

I'm totally boring when it comes to pizza ... I just order the pepperoni and I'm happy. Jay always orders something weird and scary ... last night he chose the Santa Fe pizza which I think was served with a glob of guacamole and sour cream smack dab in the middle. Once he spread it around the pizza it looked someone had smeared gerber baby food all over the place. :lmao:

We lurrrrrrves Williams Sonoma. :lovestruc We bought a new blender last night - the one we were given as a wedding gift was actually from WS and it's lasted ten years (the waring anniversary blender) but the motor is starting to go out.

This time we picked a Breville Ikon Blender - nice weight to the glass container and the base is stainless steel. It will be good for blending soups later this year once the weather cools off again. It's a little more pricey than we would normally spend but Jay got some cash for his birthday so we figured we'd use it on something that will last a long time.

And belated happy anniversary to you!

so... when are the margaritas going to be ready??? :lovestruc

1. You should be around when they start up the snowblowers at 5 am...

2. My garbage is in the garage, but the car isn't... (I don't have a basement...)

3. I played in the street.. and the woods... and at Rosemary's house...

4. I was supposed to be home when the street lights came on... (like my mother really knew when THAT was... :rotfl2:)

5. Cause the grill is in the garage from the winter and you don't want to either drag it around the back (all the way around the other townhouses...) or through the living room and out onto the deck... :rolleyes1

I eat vicariously through you... and I take little blue pills because of it... :rotfl:

Brenda - I think the answer to all of your questions is, because people do weird things that make no sense.

1. You should be around when they start up the snowblowers at 5 am... No one has a snowblower here ... we don't get enough annual snow to justify one

2. My garbage is in the garage, but the car isn't... (I don't have a basement...) Everyone here has a basement - it's practically mandatory in Tornado Alley

3. I played in the street.. and the woods... and at Rosemary's house... I also played in the woods ... and in the parking lot (because we didn't have a yard) ... and the pool ...

4. I was supposed to be home when the street lights came on... (like my mother really knew when THAT was... :rotfl2:) I got that in the summer only and it didn't change on weekends - Grimace was strict

5. Cause the grill is in the garage from the winter and you don't want to either drag it around the back (all the way around the other townhouses...) or through the living room and out onto the deck... :rolleyes1 Most people here leave their grills outside during winter and just cover them up - again we don't get enough snow to warrant bringing the grill into the garage. And lots of people around here (us included) grill during the winter

I eat vicariously through you... and I take little blue pills because of it... :rotfl:

All fair points - see imbedded responses. :goodvibes You can eat vicariously through me until I have to start restricting my diet (I hope that day is a long long way away).

Brenda- I think the answer to all of your questions is, because people do weird things that make no sense.

Yep, you're right. It was just that we noticed a lot of goofy stuff yesterday and thought it was kinda funny so I thought I'd see what you guys had to say about it. :goodvibes

I thought I would share a delightful meal I had this past week while at a conference in Lynchburg, VA. This town is in the middle of nowhere, but they have some pretty good spots for dining!

We ate at Main Street Eatery

mainst_002.jpg

and I was adventurous enough to try all his specials for the night. I also drank an unmemorable Pinot Grigio (Zemmer 06, Cortina, Italy). It was cold and wet and crisp, which was enough for me that evening. ;)

Appetizer: Roasted Beet Salad with Poached Pears, Belgian Endive, Toasted Walnuts, Maytag Bleu Cheese, Organic Greens and a Bleu Cheese-Yogurt Dressing. (I could have eaten two of these and been happy.)

Entree: Sauteed Diver Sea Scallops, topped with Asparagus and Crab Imperial, served on a grilled portabella mushroom with mixed greens and a balsamic reduction. (OMG)

Dessert: Cognac Creme Brulee (perfectly done... 'nuff said)

This is a little gem of a place with fabulous German/Swiss chef/owners. I would honestly consider the 3 hour drive to eat there again!
