Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

No kidding! Now we can see the new fireworks and even (maybe) the 2nd showing of Fantasmic without having to drive an hour home!

I love Fantasmic! Can't wait to see what new stuff they have done to it .. the dragon is supposed to be better!
By the way I am a Chocolate covered frozen banana girl too .. they remind me of being a kid and now I can get Dole Whips at a place 5 minutes from us so I don't have to choose when I go!

Have a great time!

hey friendies :)

Brenda..i just read your most recent reviews and i cannot believe you tried that egg!! Greg is 100% Scott ( so much so a kilt will be his wedding attire!) and he gets this Clan newsletter ( Macgregor) and there are all these crazy recipes..and Greg has been begging me to try and make that Scotch Egg!! I will have to show him the picture and see if he still wants me to make it.it looks borderline scary..but intriguing!!

Fantasmic is SO MUCH better at DL because they do it over the lake... with the boats... I loved it!!!

You know what food always reminds me of Disneyland? Chocolate covered frozen bananas. I'm such a dork. I may have to try that Tigger Tail, though...

I'll see what I can do! Do you usually just ask your server if they have the recipe available for said menu item?

I'm thinking about surprising dd with the Minnie and Friends breakfast. Have you seen how many characters you can knock out at that one place?? From the posts and TRs I've read, it's usually at least 10ish, which is mind boggling. When do you have time to eat your Mickey waffles? :lmao:

We have truly never eaten a proper meal in DL that I can ever remember; we always just went for a day growing up and returned to my aunt's house for dinner. When dh and I were there in 1999, the only thing I remember eating was a frozen banana and some beignets in New Orleans Square.

Mickey pancakes.. :goodvibes

I can only reference my friends pictures... she had pancakes... but I had waffles at other places so they must have them...

Where's Bendy???????

I'm here ... funny you should ask. :goodvibes

I went back to work this week and it's still as bad as it was before I took time off. :rotfl2:

Honestly, and this will sound stupid, but I was a bit review rattled. I had posted that Scottish Arms review with the nephie and his wife and they didn't like the things I said and it actually upset me a lot because I wasn't being malicious or mean-spirited. I dunno, maybe complete and utter strangers understand my sense of humor but my own family doesn't? I always thought the things I wrote came through as good ol' fun pokery but maybe not. So I've spent the last couple of days mired in self-doubt and have been beating myself up for being an insensitive clod who apparently doesn't know the truth when it smacks her in the face. :confused3

To be fair, I did mention something that I really shouldn't have, but I just wasn't thinking. Like I said ... I didn't do it to be rude or anything, but once done ... like the ring of power ... it cannot be un-done. So I need to to back to that review and take some things out. And I guess any meals this fall that include them won't include them ... know what I mean?

I'm kind of sad about the whole thing but I've learned my lesson and that is: never include anyone else in a review ever unless they sign a waiver first. :lmao:

Now I have to ask ... should I have not even posted this post??? :confused3: :scared1: :rolleyes1

Brenda,

I have enjoyed reading about your dining adventures, I admire your wit and humor about things. I hope you continue writing about many more experiences. Looking forward to meeting up with you and helping to celebrate your birthday. Charlene :flower3:

Insentive clod? I don't think so. I read your Scottish Arms review after you posted it and I don't remember anything that would have come across even mildly insensitve or rude. :confused3 I guess not everybody likes being an internet celebrity? From now on you'll have to refer to guest diners at Mr. X and Ms. X and blur out their faces in photos like they do with those people on tv in the witness protection program. :rotfl:

Brenda - I went back and re-read your Scottish Arms review. I assume your nephew is an overly sensitive young man since the only comments you made that had nothing to do with you or Jay were about him. Nothing you said was nasty! I would not edit the evening's commentary at all, but I would exclude them from any reviews at F&W! :sad2:

Brenda - I went back and read it again and I still cannot find anything you said that could even be taken the wrong way, I'm totally baffled. :confused3 I agree with Elin, exclude them in future reviews.:sad2:

Family... Eh. Don't let it bother you. I read the review the day you posted it and it sounded fine to me. We get you! :grouphug: I'm sorry this has put a damper on your upcoming F&W adventure with them... but you'll still have a great time even if you can't write about them... in public... but PM's are a totally different story! ;)

Chin up! :goodvibes

I'll try this again ... :headache: ... the server crashed the first two times I tried to post.

Thanks for your comments ... I do appreciate them. :grouphug: No one who went back today to read anything would have seen the two or three lines of offending text because I already pulled them and deleted the comment in reference to them.

People feel how they feel ... they're not wrong and I do understand because I did make a comment about something that wasn't my place to discuss. But I was very upset about the fact that I'd upset them and the manner in which they chose to communicate that to me. It sounded to me like they were angry and thought I'd been deliberately insensitive and was lying to boot.

That hurt a lot because the whole review thing is just supposed to fun - I try to be as accurate as possible but I can and do make mistakes, but not intentionally.

Now who's being too sensitive? :rotfl2:

As for October ... Jay and I decided that we will either just include pictures of their food with a "good" or "bad" rating or exclude them altogether. Either way will make for an awkward review process, and pretty much shoots all to hell my plans for writing a full blown TR, which I'd planned to give them in a digital scrapbook along with pictures from the trip, but it is what it is.

I don't think they'd want anything written by me at this point, so I'll just save it for you guys. :thumbsup2

Seems like the right time to share a little home-made food porn with my friendies. Here's some pictorial delights from last Friday, which was our 10th anniversary. :lovestruc

We started the morning with a french toast bake from Dean & Deluca. Here's how they pimp it on their website:

This ethereal dish is made exclusively for DEAN & DELUCA. Egg bread is soaked in creamy maple custard and swirled with cinnamon, ginger and cream cheese, then spiked with macerated raisins.

Just before popping it into the oven ...

Ya know ... this might be the first thing we've ordered from D&D that didn't knock our socks off. It was good, but no better than something I could have made myself and which I was just too lazy to do. It was light and custard-ey and did have a nice flavor, it just didn't have that special something that we've grown accustomed to from D&D.

And now for dinner ...

We started off with Welsh Rarebit and miniature toasts for dipping. We washed it down with Unibroue's Seigneuriale.

Rarebit and toasts ... a not-so-hidden Mickey.

Beer #1
P5290006.jpg

Mmmm, it's been years since we've made rarebit and it's so darn good I can't for the life of me think why we haven't made it more often. It's a wonderful cheese dipping sauce made with cheddar, worchestershire sauce, beer and other things that I can't remember right now. It would be especially lovely to share on a cold winter night in front of a roaring fire. As for the beer, it was a new one to us but we really liked it - nice amber color and an interesting citrusy, malty flavor ... very smooth!

Our main course was Deviled Tenderloin, the recipe I stumbled across in the newest Williams Sonoma catalogue just a few days earlier. The recipe actualy calls for it to be grilled, but we didn't feel like doing that so we stuck it in a roasting pan with some veggies and let it cook for a couple of hours. The beer we drank with this was Unibroue's Trois Pistoles.

Ready for the oven ...

Beer #2

I liked this pork recipe and it was very easy to make, but a little pork goes a long way for me so I only had a single slice of it. I think Jay liked it a lot but would have probably preferred a bit more kick. The beer is dark Belgian-style ale and despite its color it's neither heavy or harsh tasting - it's actually got a hint of sweetness to it and also goes down nice and smooth.

Next I'm going to include pictures from Saturday ... we discovered there was no way we could eat everything we'd planned so we put the rest off for a day. I guess sometimes we're not a piggish as we think. :lmao:

This next dish is crab cakes with jalapeno butter. We first tried this at Emeril's a few years ago and were blown away by how good it was ... so we've come up with our own less impressive but still tasty version, as shown below. Believe it or not the butter is really easy to make: one stick of butter, one jalepeno, and a minced garlic clove.

Jalapeno Butter ...

Sweet, succulent crabbie patties

We then followed it up with one of our favorite salads - Spinach Salad with Feta Cheese and Fresh Berries (for some reason spinach leaves don't bother the Crohn goblin so I eat it as much as possible now). We tossed in some blueberries and strawberries and Jay made a red wine vinegar, olive oil, and garlic dressing.

Rabbit food with a twist ...

And we washed this down with a pitcher of Emeril's Sangria.

Thank you sir, may I have another?

And now, the cakes we ordered for our special night. In hindsight one cake would have been more than enough, but the bakery's website said the smallest round would only yield four pieces so I thought why not get two?

I forgot how big their smalllest cakes are and how rich they are. Too bad you fine friendies don't live nearby because we still have leftover cake in the refrigerator! :rotfl2:

A slice of each ... it's only right

And the wine we'd been waiting for weeks to try: The Chateau Yaquem, 2003 ... quite possibly the finest dessert wine ever made according to people who get paid a lot of money to say things like that.

Mmmmmm, pretty!
P5290014.jpg

Well, the cake was fabulous ... the first time we'd had anything from Cravings since our wedding reception and now we remember why: if we ate cake like this all the time we be immense and suffering from perpetual gout. :lmao:

As for the wine ... it was good, don't misunderstand me, but I'm not sure that Jay and I are sophisticated or educated enough to tell the difference between this and the Royal Tokaji that we've been served at V&A.

The Yaquem had a lovely fruity aroma ... almost like nectarines or peaches with some pear and pineapple tossed in for good measure. And smooth ... my god yes ... it went down as smooth as silk with no aftertaste at all. But we just can't fathom the pricetag. Like I said ... that $25 half-bottle of Tokaji is just as tasty as this $200 half-bottle of Yaquem in our lack-wit opinion.

Definitely try this if you're ever given the opportunity, but I don't know that I can bring myself to endorse it to the point that I think you should buy a bottle just for the sake of trying it. I'm glad we did but once was enough.

Beautiful food porn, Brenda! I laughed at myself when I looked at the first picture of the tenderloin; I thought it looked like a giant burrito with red sauce! :rotfl: (Probably from the pain medicine I took for the mysterious back pain that appeared this morning. I hate getting older.) Those cakes are ginormous for only having "four" pieces, aren't they? But they sound and look divine.

I'm so sorry about the problems with your nephew and his wife. I never read anything in your review that would have been disrespectful or anything toward them and I love your sense of humor! Did they never think of how many times they have hurt your feelings (not showing up, etc.)? We will love your review no matter how you post it this fall. We are having worries ourselves about the friends joining us for our December trip, so I can feel for ya.

If anyone needs cheering up tonight or has nothing else to do, guess what's on all evening? Land of the Lost (circa 1975) marathon on the Chiller channel! It's so bad, but I just loved it back then.

On a good note, my parents anniversary party went wonderfully today! It's so nice getting all of my mom's siblings and family together along with friends and neighbors. Her sibs are between 59 and 83 years old so it's always good when they can get together all at the same time. We had a cupcake tree, but have 2 dozen left--anybody want one?? :)
