Belgian Waffle Maker? Need help from waffle people!

I helps them cook evenly. It's a gravity thing, kwim? The side that is down is heavy on the cooking surface so it cooks faster.

Keep up. :) We were discussing the ones that flip.

Other than just a chance to be snarky, I'm not sure why you posted.

I have a waffle maker that flips. I put the batter in, close it, and immediately flip it and it remains flipped until it is done.

My question, that you chose not to answer is what difference does it make which side is the down side?

Does the waffle somehow know that it was flipped immediately? Wouldn't gravity have worked on either side?

Yeah, read DMRick's explanation. It's a simple process and I thought fairly easy to understand. As soon as you pour the batter, the down side starts cooking. Then, the appliance is closed and flipped which send the batter to what used to be the 'up' side and puts air in the waffle-in the middle of both cooked sides as the heat moves into the middle and completely cooks the waffle into a puffly morsel of goodness. I think you might be feeling a little defensive...snarky was not my goal. I tried to indicate my humor by putting a smilie in there but maybe your original question was a tad disingenuine so you picked up something you thought you might get back-even though my intent was honest and friendly. I posted because you quoted both my statements and thought you wanted me to post back. I'm feeling a little less friendly now, but I'll get over it.

I have what I need from this thread and I assume you do too.
