I turned 21 back in July, and except for that day where I consumed more alcohol than need be, I haven't been able to consume more than one drink!
Tonight I went out and had a margarita and had to choke is down because it tasted too strong!
Otherwise, I get very hot when drinking, tired, and feel off quickly. Does this go away as you get older?
Not that is a bad thing, just curious!

I don't think it's that unusual. Are you small. I am short, 115 #, and never have been able to drink more than 1 drink. I may order a second drink on the rare night out, but i never finish it. One works fine for me. I also do better with wine than I do hard liquor. I don't like margaritas or anything where you can taste the liquor. I do like pina coladas and they are usually weak, maybe you could try that next time? I also like strawberry daquries.

I'm not small at all. I'm 5'10 and need to lose weight. On my birthday I don't think after the 8 shots, 2 double well drinks, and another 4 shot drink earlier that I was that drunk. I could walk, I remember everything, and everyone agreed I was with it. So I told it well minus the hot flashes!

Maybe you're destined for a life as a light drinker; nothing wrong with that! People metabolize alcohol differently and I think you'd be wise to recognize your limits early (two glasses of wine in a row put me right in the bag :sad1:).

I do sort of disdain the idea of finding some kind of alcoholic drink that doesn't taste like an alcoholic drink just so you can choke down an alcoholic drink - why bother? :confused3 Every bar I've ever been in will happily serve a coke or cup of coffee; you still get all the social benefits without the hefty tab!

That's not a bad thing. :-)

I go through phases - sometimes I can hold my own and others one or two is fine, depends on where I am, time of year, etc.

A word of advice... If you have to "choke" down a drink... Don't drink it! If you're not enjoying it, there is no point. Even if it is an expensive drink, you shouldn't have to feel like you are wasting it. :)

I don't know. I don't drink per se but when I was 21, my friend was telling me that I should try a wine cooler, that it barely has any alcohol, tasted more like punch, etc...blah, blah, blah....well, I had 1 sip and it was NASTY to me. So back to my regular coke for the 2nd drink (I was at a comedy club with 2 drink min).

I tried beer twice in my life and literally spit it out the first time it was nasty to me again. I went to I think it was a Tastefully simple party with beer bread of course you sample it and I barely choked the sample down (I had assumed it wouldn't be an obvious beer taste -- I was wrong).

I am apparently too sensitive to the taste of alcohol, which is fine with me but I'm sure other people are too. Just like any other food item.

I remember being told it is an acquired taste & my thought was "why?"...if I eat something I don't like, I don't try to continue to force myself to keep eating it just because it is the thing to do.

Of course, before Nyquil came in pill form, I would take it and my palms would get super hot, etc... and pretty much knock me out completely.

So basically, the running joke is even if I did drink I would be under the table after a sip or two.

When I drink alcohol I get warm too and my cheeks are red. I can't drink wine or much beer but I love my Malibu and coke with lime!

PERFECTLY stated!!

OP - I'm 5'3", need to lose a LOT of weight and I get the same symptoms after not even two drinks. After one drink I start feeling warm. I feel like I've got a fever halfway through a second drink and, if I finish said second drink, I have a tough time keeping my eyes open. It is what it is. Don't push drinking alcohol just for the sake of drinking alcohol. Not worth it.

I am the same way. When i drink I start to feel hot, tired, and irritable before I'm even done with the first one. I am not good company when I feel that way. I've found that caffeine and sugar work better for me in social situations than alcohol.

When I was younger, I felt more pressure to find an alcoholic drink that I liked, but less so now. But if you're worried about pressure, try ordering a Coke with a slice of lime in it. Everyone assumes it's rum and Coke, so they don't keep trying to "get you a drink."

I had half a wine cooler shortly after I turned 21. My boss likes wine and I've tried a couple of times at office dinners or his wine parties, and it eithers makes me want to gag or just tastes yucky. Beer just smells gross so I've not tried it. It's okay to not enjoy alcohol. DH is pretty much the same. We feel no pressure to drink, other than like I said, we have tried a little wine with the boss because he thinks he can find one we'll like :) I don't think it will ever happen. I just tell people I don't like the taste.

After not drinking for 9 months, I got tipsy very quickly when I had a glass of wine. I assume it will be the same after I have baby #2 this spring.

Generally, I can only drink a glass or two of white wine (red makes my skin all hot and a mess)most nights. My tolerance really got pretty high when I was drinking a lot more, and more often.

No matter what size you are, it is relatively normal for your body to build up a tolerance for alcohol with frequent exposure, but for some people that just never happens. My Dad was a really tough guy, and big, but my mother using to jokingly tease him that he could get drunk just passing by the open door of a bar on his way home -- he had no head for alcohol whatsoever, and one whiskey was his limit.

I used to be a fairly hard drinker when I was in my teens and twenties, but I essentially gave it up back in the early 90's, at first largely because it was expensive, and later because for several years I was either pregnant/nursing or on meds that contraindicated alcohol. Half of the bottles of liquor in our cabinet at home are over 20 years old.

A year or so ago I was on vacation and looked at the drink prices in a bar for the first time in years, and my jaw just dropped at the prices being charged for cocktails these days. I just can't force myself to drop $15 or so on one drink, so I guess that I'm now officially a lightweight for life.

Thanks for the advice guys!
When I go to the bars I generally take advantage of the free drinks. I will generally order one cranberry and vodka if they are on special, I just tell them to make it watered down!
Wine coolers are usually ok with me as well.

But I guess I'm just not born to be a drinker

I'm a total lightweight, which is fine because I think all alcohol tastes like sock sweat.

:rotfl2: I can't confirm the taste of sock sweat but some alcohol does taste better than others. :rotfl: :lmao:
