beignets???

More Mickey sprinkles...the big one was edible too. This is the matterhorn sundae from Carnation Cafe. Looking back at all the food from our trip...no wonder I can barely button my jeans this week!

LOL! Can you say Food Porn????

I have ordered the beignet mix from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, and made them. And they are delish! And yes, the ones at CO are almost as good.
My Dfi is from New Orleans and he gave mine and the ones at CO a :thumbsup2 .
So there ya go!

A friend of mine recently went to New Orleans and brought me back a box of the mix....they where good, but not the same.

I wonder if you can buy those sprinkles at the store! :lovestruc I think I will have to look. Don't know what I would put them on because I don't eat like that at home. :rotfl:

Only on the DIS will you find a 4 page thread just on the subject of beignets... :rotfl:

Not only that, but I'm trying hard not to emotionally defend the Jazz Kitchen beignets! I will not make this argument personal!

...I could really use a bag o' beignets about now...

Don't worry, you're not the only one who has a special beignet-shaped spot in your heart for them.

Next time I'm at DL, I'm def. gonna make a reservation for Cafe Orleans, bring in a bag of Jazz Kitchen Beignets and do a side-by-side taste comparison. This board is going to make me fat just by putting these sorts of thoughts into my head.

I love the large Mickey head on the sundae...and it's taking all of my willpower not to put it on my list of things to do when I'm next at DL.

I really like that idea. I think I need to do the same.

Hmmm....adding to my list to do, :try Jazz Kitchen:.
We've never been there. I'll do anything for beignets!

mmm.... those pictures do make one drool at the mouth a bit.. will absolutely have to give them a try.. yummmm....

The only saving grace of all this is that at DLR I am doing so much walking everyday I can burn up alot of it. :yay:

If you eat at Jazz Kitchen and have a birthday in your party and tell your server, they will bring you a huge plate of beignets with a candle stuck in them. They brought this out AFTER we demolished the chocolate bread pudding so we took them home (hotel) to eat in the morning. I had to roll out of that restaurant! So much yummy food, so little time!!!!

To make it really fair so that one isn't fresher than the other, you need two people. One is at Jazz Kitchen. Actually, 3 people. One at their outside counter place where I got (and didn't enjoy) them. One at the actual JK restaurant. One at Cafe Orleans.

Synchronize watches and order at the same time (not sure how you could do this). Hope that they are all made at the same time. Put all into the same type of container (obviously, white paper bag is best, yes?) so make sure everyone has the same thing. Then all walk towards each other, so when you meet it's been the same amount of time.

THEN taste-test.

It's possible I've thought of this a little bit too often.:rolleyes1

But your idea is probably the most scientifically sound.

Next trip you and I can be two of the three people. :)

I was trying to figure out if there was some way someone could get Cafe du Monde beignets and travel to DLR in a certain amount of time so those could be included...but I had to give that up.

Im sure we won't have any problem fiding a third person to help us taste test beignets.
