Behavior Challenge Thread

Laurie, DS usually has a Halloween "theme" for his birthday. I used to feel bad that I was trying to combine the holidays, like I was cheating, but he likes it fine. It's not one of the holidays where you'd be double-dipping on the gifts. But I would go to the store to buy party stuff and all I could find was Halloween, so it just kinda happened whether I wanted it to or not.

I remember, growing up my birthday was about a week before school started, and I used to get school supplies for my birthday. Now for my birthday it's about time for a new school year and the chance to drop the kids off and run, which is a much better gift.

DisDreamin, I would have read all 4 books in 5 days :lmao: (I do really believe you did that, too) unfortunately I don't have the last two yet. The library loan usually only takes a week, so they should show up soon enough. I'm sure I could have bought them, but this week's eye-scratching cost almost $100 between the dr and the drops, plus it has now occurred to me that maybe I should buy a new pair of glasses. You know, for the next 20 years.

Mechurchlady, How cool is it that your mom wants to go somewhere???Now the important caveat-please don't have expectations about the trip other than what actually happens. As evidenced by DS's much anticipated trip to the Brass Band Concert, sometimes the victory is in the gettin' there. What happens when you get there is "what happens". Does that make sense?

Becky, you are one funny lady. I must admit that I was only able to read all the books in one day because it was Christmas Break. We didn't go anywhere that week because Mommy was in a "reading hangover" as I so politely put it. As an act of kindness, I gave my set of books to the mom with the troubled 9 year old. She thanked me Sunday and said Twilight got her through what was surely one of the worst periods of her life. Booyah. (I just like saying that- it's in a Stephen King book I read a year or so ago. It's what the protagonist says when she kicks butt against the sinister bad things, what exactly I can't remember).

I'm sure the ophthalmologists of America don't appreciate your 20 year eyewear plan. I guess they've got plenty of people that lose glasses to keep them in business.

I think I've asked this before- What is it exactly that you do to Bok Choy that makes it taste so good? Isn't it the part of my Chinese food that looks like wilted lettuce? Want to make yourself laugh? Say "Bok Choy" ten times really fast. I am easily amused.

Saveaquarter, how's it going? I think of you and your family and hope for the best labor ever. Will DH enjoy being at the hospital since he's having ER withdrawal? How funny would that be? You're in labor and he's having the time of his life hanging out at the hospital. Sounds like something my DH would do...Oh, wait, he did do that.:rolleyes1

See, I told you my tacky would get messy all over the place. I really should lock it up. For all our new members, welcome. We are a fun, problem solving bunch around here. Becky is funny, Pudge is our guide, Laurie is our thinker-outside-the-box, and Bookewormde checks in on us for technical support. C & G's Mama and Koolaid Mom's are our sisters in spirit and the best moms in the world. Saveaquarter is pregnant with anticipation. If I left you out, it's cause I most likely have ADD. But I {heart} all of you and enjoy your company.:grouphug: Can you believe 500 posts?

Hey, C&G's Mama, did you find a hotel for Friday night? I once looked on one of the hotel rating sites and found this little, hidden hotel called the Meridian on the main drag near WDW. It's right smack dab behind a McDonalds. It's super cheap and had down comforters and pillows on the beds and the cleanest bathroom ever. Not ginormous room, but clean, nice beds, and expensive bath products. It was a few years ago, so check it out on Expedia if you can. That's my tip. I'm so excited for your trip. Give us a full report.

Did anyone see Wife Swap last Friday? Aside from the dragon woman that was scary, there was this mom who had a super reward plan for her kids. She put a "stone" for every kind and helpful act her kids did in a jar, and they got a reward for every 6 they earned. What a great plan for vacations or just daily life. Her explanation was that if kids make an effort to have good behavior enough, eventually it becomes a habit. It's true- an action has to be repeated something like 30 times until the brain hardwires it. And a rock in a jar is something we can all do. Wanna try it? Or should I be the guinea pig?

DisDreaminMom big hugs for you. We are a silly lot but we are kind, thrifty, clean, well some of us, and are a team that is one for all and all for dole whips, coffee, and chocolates.

It is nice to be back here and put my feet up on the sofa and chat with real mommas. I have learned so much from you. I was like your kids in that I so wanted to be normal and loved for me and have friends and do things again. I used to have plenty of pin trading friends and once back in the 1980's was on the CB with friends.

I keep waiting for them buns to be ready, saveaquarter is it time yet? I got the bookcase done except for the shelves and major problems as I did not have enough glue and it came partially apart. It is standing but I would not put a toothpick on it.

This would have been a perfect week if not for a certain ninny, Arnie. We are fine but I am so worried about all them low income people who could loose their house because of the end of the property tax postponement program.

Thanks for the memories and hope to catch you on the flip flop good buddy.
Hugs everyone twice.:hug::hug:

Ooooo :lovestruc it's now called the galleria palms resort and its really fancy
with really nice SUPER huge bathrooms - I don't thinks it's too much of a kid friendly place as it has an itty bitty tiny pool for one night it is good if you only want to sleep and watch flat screen tv- Hubby and I have stayed there for an anniversary in a king suite that was normally 250.00 and we got it for 65.00 on either expedia or Orbitz? very clean - 6 HUGE king pillows and a fold out couch, fridge in room etc.. Desk clerk wasn't super friendly but polite- very business like. Did I mention CLEAN??

oops - I gots to get back to work -break is over:)

:flower3: dole whips, coffee & CHOCOLATE to all:)

In all honesty I am the one that cooks the Bok Choy. I really don't do anything to it. I make our stir-frys with water (no oil at all) so the vegetables are steamed in the wok. I add them in order of how long they take to cook finishing with the pea pods and bok choy for just a minute. Serve over rice with soy sauce and Iron Chef garlic sauce (slightly spicy and yummy!).

I must confess though that we have taught our children from the very first bite of food (we started with vegetables not fruits because they are not as sweet) that they have to try a bite of everything on their plates except for the one food they are exempt from. I was a very picky eater growing up and never even had broccoli until I went to college and found out I LOVED it! So for DD no onions (I sneak them in though and she loves French Onion Soup - :rotfl:) for DS it is mashed potatoes and for DP it is tuna noodle casserole, mine is peas (can't stand the taste or the texture). 95% of the time they eventually ask for more and find out they really do like it. We also do not offer a second meal. My mom used to cook 4 different meals at each meal time. It is what we make and if you decide not to eat it that is up to you but no snacking later. As someone once said, "If they are hungry enough they will eat the formica off the table." :)

Just popping in.

#1 I don't think I've ever eaten bok choy. Or if I did, I didn't know what it was.

#2 DisDreamin, we don't let rocks in the house. :lmao: Maybe cotton balls would be a better option? Think it through, rocks inside house, bad. Rocks inside glass jar inside house, bad. Cotton balls in old Tupperware, good. ;)

Oh I'm sure he will. That is, if he's not having a kidney infection treated! We're still working on getting him to drink more water, but it's like getting an elephant to lay eggs. Last night he was complaining of pain in his side like he was getting another infection. Just what I need now, right? :rotfl:

On the other hand, though, I'm hardly progressing! And here's the thing, we made a couple guesses at conception, but I was always measuring behind those dates. (My original due date was March 4th, then the 17th, then April 1st) So last night we did a little figuring in our heads and realized that I most likely had a false positive peeonastick test and we shot ourselves in the foot (so to speak) when we celebrated, and I'm not actually due until THIS week. Whoops! I'm dying to get these kids out of me. I want to hold my babies! (I also want to start losing baby weight for our trip this summer!)

I did! I thought that was a wonderful idea. That woman was a sweetheart in general. Granted, I'd never share bathwater and hate having body hair, but whatever works for her! :lmao:

I refuse to accept that the dragon lady was anything more than an act. I don't think I want to live in a world where people like that are for real! :scared1:

DDM and Pudge, thanks for the info on the hotel. Are either of you (or anyone else) familiar with the Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando - South Lake Buena Vista" on Calypso Cay Way. Per mapquest it's about 5 miles from CBR. It's cheaper than All Stars (I can't bring my self to pay $105 plus tax for All Stars) and includes Breakfast. We usually stay and Hampton Inns on the road and collect points for free stays. We plan on staying in Alexandria on Friday night, where ever we land on Saturday night and then somewhere within a couple of miles of Disney on Sunday night.

Love you guys too. When I say "DS had a meltdown and threw a tantrum" I don't get "you're the worst mother in the world" I get "oh yeah, and this is what works for me...."

BOK CHOY!!!!! YUM! I adore bok choy. I love it in Asian inspired soups, and stir fry. I've even been known to use it in salad... mmmm....

:-)

On other news...I have a secret...*shhhh* Don't tell my younger DS (older one knows, he's helping figure out how to stage the reveal to his li'l bro.) Thanks to some frugal saving and the sacrifice of scrapbooking goodies I am taking the boys to WDW in August! (Also big thanks to WDW for the whole Salute to the Soldiers thingy.) Alas, DH cannot go, he's a class that month. On the plus side I get to see my Momma again, and my Uncle CheshireFigment..I haven't seen them in a long while.
I'm trying, with older DSs aid, to come up with a really fun way to reveal the news to my younger DS. I want to capture it on video so it's got to be goooooood! Any ideas?

Is there a not fun way to announce another trip to WDW?

bookwormde

C&G'sMama you know your are a mean momma for denying the kid bok choy.

saveaquarter you seem to be doing well and it is good that the twins are staying in for so long. Make it a game for your husband like challenge him or what ever, use your girly brain, lol.

Hugs bookworm the hero:hug::hug::hug:

There are bad ways to tell someone about a trip like with mom she would balk all the way so I told her two days before San Diego and for Long Beach she was hot so we just packed and left, lol. Planning is cruel on mom.

Tomorrow I have to go to Union Station to get the bus pass. I can take the train but I need cash lots of it for the trip some places do not take credit. Now to figure how to get to the train station otherwise I have to drive or use the wheelchair and walk, ouch. At least I made that call, lol.

IT IS HOT, anyone wanting hot can have mine

big hugs

Favorite way to announce Disney trip: Pick 'em up from school and have the bags packed. If they're like mine, if we drive away from the normal route then they want to know where we are going. Then you make them guess. This only works for fun things like Disney trips. Not the doctor's office.

Second Favorite way to announce Disney trip: Go to Disney Store and buy 5 mini beanbag "plush" Disney characters. A week before you leave, put a Mickey (or whoever) somewhere the kids can't miss him with a word on a piece of paper in his hands. Five days= "We" "Are" "Going" "To" "Disney". Or make it a scavenger hunt, whichever your kids like the best. You could make them earn a piece to a big Mickey puzzle. That would be cool.

The possibilities are totally endless. I find that with my ASD kiddo, too much prep time leads to anxiety, so in my life, packing and preparing are best left to the Executive (me) and it causes much less stress. Everyone loves a pleasant surprise.

Becky, the cottonball thing made me laugh. I could see where the rocks are an issue. My kid would just shake the darn thing and make it a musical instrument. The louder the better.

OK, now for something to really make you scared. Today I had to run in the school right before dismissal to drop something off. As I walked out to my car, two school bus drivers, both White 30-40 something males, were talking loudly (because one had just had on earphones and it was windy). One of them says, "So, why are you taking blood thinners?" and the other one says, "Well, I've got this pulmonary embolism..."

I almost fell over. Nothing like a man with a potentially deadly, ticking timebomb condition driving around an entire school bus full of little kids. I almost stopped to ask him what the hell he was doing driving a bus, but look what that got me earlier. If I say something, the guy gets put on leave or worse, and if I keep my mouth shut, and something happens, I'm gonna feel at fault. What do you think? I can't imagine the person who values his job over the safety of his charges. But I guess I'm a little old fashioned. :sad2:

That sounds like a great plans

Checking in and right now I am ok but my nose is bothering me. I am not sure about getting the bus pass as my nose is so sore and no sleep. Mom is ok and not many meltdowns lately. I ahve a cute story.

I told her we were having turkey. She did not want turkey, meltdown was impending so I said we would have chicken. I have some frozen cooked rosemary chicken breasts. Later she said that was good turkey. :scared1: :lmao::lmao:

once long ago my dad and mom were not together until I was aged 5. My mother and her mother was at my dad's place and he had a barbecued turkey. He put a string on a leg so that Grandmother would get a plain turkey leg. Next day my dad was at work and a coworker wondered why my dad had a string on his turkey leg.:lmao: Like mother like daughter Grandmother did not know that her yummy turkey leg was barbecued.

lots of hugs and dole whips

Thanks for the club pogo code, Laurie! Feel free to join J and I in Yahtzee any time! :thumbsup2

I have two more I can give you probably, you knwo my name there and never get me mad, lol, that is how I got my name in Pogo.

You are too sweet. I'd love to get one for J, the flashing ads give him headaches, and if he likes the way it looks, I can probably talk him into a subscription ;)

I am now hooked on Monopoly Slots.

I read about pregnant ladies play classical music to they belly to influence their child. I wonder what all them games will do to the twins, lol.

Twin A: Hi I am A and I am a gambler because momma got me hooked in the womb.
Group: Hi A and welcome to Gamblers Anonymous.
Twin B: Hi I am B and I have recurring dreams of being in the womb and betting with my twin on things like what mom was going to eat and how long we would be in her. I was born second because I lost a bet in my dream.
Group: Hi B and welcome to Gamblers Anonymous

Hi guys. No internet gaming for me. Addictive is the word...But it's funny to read. I hate to think of the things my kids learned in the womb. First pregnancy, I used to let the "baby" bet at the track for me. I never won so much money in my life. Now I can't pick a winner to save my life.

I took DS and family to see the Symphony last night. It was the fundraiser for the University program. DH doesn't enjoy that type of thing, but he for some reason waned to go anyway. It was Beethoven's 1st and 9th and a full chorus of like 40 singers doing the Ode to Joy. Kids are being great. DS totally loves it. Music was fantastic. I could tell DH was bored but he'd get over it. We made it all the way through the performance until they just started with the "good part"of the 9th and Ode to Joy and DH's pager goes off and we have to leave. Ugghhhh. I'm so bummed. I wanted to hear that part. Next time, I'm going without people who aren't fully committed.

Planting flowers all day. It's a workout. Have a great weekend.

Hugs DisDreaminMom

I am back from DLr and am so tired and my little nose is sunburned. They had bok choy at the food and wine festival. I missed you all and was thinking of Bok Choy Momma and hoping they she is ok.

Everyone report in, how is life and how are you? Everyone needing a hug please form a line to the right and have a magical day to day.

hugs
