Policy on COVID related discussions
The global COVID pandemic created unprecedented restrictions, disruptions and changes to our travel, work, shopping, schooling, social interactions and so many other aspects of our lives since the beginning of 2020. We’ve all been affected, and we have been inundated with news, information, mis-information, frustrations and opinions. We’ve heard them, we’ve shared them, we’ve argued about them.

The discussions, debates and arguments about the virus, distancing and masking policies, various politicians’ statements and actions have been overwhelming and divisive. Many threads on the DISboards have been derailed or devolved into arguments due to this topic. We understand the passion, but feel that we’ve let the discussions run their course. We are sure there are better places on the WWW to learn about and debate scientific, medical and political issues. The mission of the DISboards is to be a great travel resource and a friendly community.

Now that travel is opening up again, it’s time to refocus on that mission!

From this point on, we will welcome information on COVID policies RELATED TO TRAVEL. Things like the vaccination policies issued by venues or destinations, the cleaning or distancing procedures in use, practical tips for travelers or things they might need to know that are different from location to location are all valid topics. Any official policies issued by Disney, other travel destinations, cruise lines, airlines, etc. regarding requirements for visiting parks or cruising can be shared. This information needs to be on-topic for the specific forum and thread where posted.

We will NOT welcome debate or opinion about medical, scientific, or political aspects of the pandemic. There are a few often repeated trigger items that won’t be allowed: No statistics about infection rates, no ranting about individual rights, no “face-diaper” comments, no debate about whether vaccinations or masking are effective, no discussions about which governor or politician or news personality did or said what.

In summary: COVID related discussion should be limited to actual policy and practical application, and NOT veer into opinion or debate.

We understand that you may be passionate in your opinions on this topic and want to discuss or debate them, and appreciate your understanding that there are more appropriate places than the DISboards to do that.

Thank you,
DISboards Administrators

They just found a way to reduce crowds.

That’s a very real possibility. When we went in July, we brought a lot of extra disposable masks with us just in case.

Of course, didn’t I walk out without one day and had a Lyft waiting to go to DS so had to buy from the RIV store!! Didn t pay attention to the size and got a child’s. It was hysterical watching me try to stretch on my face!!

I have a land and sea vacation coming up and had not realized that masks were not required at some point. I was planning how to match my masks to my outfits. But good to see something being changed with the Delta variant on the rise.

I saw the news this morning. Guess I’ll plan for this next month when we arrive. I cruise first and the same procedure is on the ship.

So is the mask mandate for indoor attractions only or ALL attractions once you are in line? That does not read clearly in the update. If it is for indoor attractions, what do we do rides like TSM where half of the queue is outside? What about 7DMT/Splash/BTM/ETC where the is a short indoor queue but the majority of the rides is outdoors?

I am going to assume that it is what it was when we were there in June. Once you entered the queue for the line, even if it was outside the actual attraction, they required us to put the mask on. Now, its possible for those specifics you mention, it could be different as we didn't right any of those when we were there so I didn't quite pay attention. But, for example, we did for Pooh which I consider semi outdoors, and for the Space Mountain line when it was still outside the attraction.

That makes sense for ride like Pooh/Space/TSM, but I think it's going to be a mess for the outdoor rides that have a short period of indoor queue or short section of ride itself that is "inside". Just seems like a nightmare for CMs and confusion for guests with the current language.

If it's like how it was when I went in early June, masks are required in the official queues. So when a line like Space Mountain or 7DMT stretches outside beyond the official line, no one is making you wear a mask there. Once you reach the official entrance to the line, there is a cast member there to ensure people put on their masks. Then you are expected to wear it properly until you're off the ride and back outside.

I am sure they will release another statement clearing up the confusion if anything we will get hands on accounts soon enough.

And mean while at a Disney Product status meeting, cheering erupts as the problem with 500,000 unsold Disney masks is solved!
Not only that but they immediately raised the prices back on shop disney to full price!

Makes sense I suppose. Whole family went in February so masks are a non-issue personally. I'd just prefer to not have to wear one as much as possible though in the late August heat!

I'm showing 2 masks for $3 on Shop Disney. But not a good selection of sizes. But I've got plenty, plus a pack of disposables, already packed in the suiotcase.
Thanks! I’m going to look again to grab a few for my daughter. The ones we looked at yesterday we’re all back to regular pricing!

We just put disposable masks in our pile of things to pack. We are leaving on Saturday. Really want to see the two fireworks shows for the last time.
