Do you have to inform the waiter that you are on the dining plan before you order or just tell them when you pay?

It is a good idea to let your server know that you are on the dining plan before you order, a lot of times they have good suggestions on ordering & explain exactely what is covered on the dining plan. It is a great plan & plenty of food. enjoy.

We have been on the Dining Plan twice and it is my experience that the server always asks.

They will ask. They need to know so that 1) they can ring it up properly and 2) they can notify you as to anything that may not be included.

they ask, but Coral Reef actually required that I show them my card prior to taking our order. Really didn't like that! As if I didn't know what I had and wouldn't believe my answer!

They may do that so they can see how many adults and children are on your reservation before you order.

Can you imagine this scene: family orders appetizers, then whips out a Basic DP card and refuses to pay for the appetizers because they thought they were included. I gotta believe this has happened in 2008, not so pretty either. It wasn't personal, just business and trying to avoid a scene!

Was that 2008? I had read that somewhere else too, and I wonder if it's to verify if you have the regular DDP or the DxDDP? DxDDP gets an appetizer too, and I'm sure there are a lot of guests (not DISers) who wouldn't know what they have or don't have.

I don't think it was that they didn't believe you.
