Beer $$

We are going to pack a case in our carry on along with a few choice beverages. Seeing what airline employees do with checked baggage, I will be carring mine on!!

In October 2007, we bought the beer package when we boarded. It was $4.00 per beer (+ 15% tip). You had to buy 20 beers but they gave you 4 for free. We bought the Hieneken Light package. I thought it was a great deal. Our steward brought us an extra ice bucket and was kind enough to put beer on ice when he saw it was empty. At one of the days at sea we went thru beer faster than we could chill it. We simply brought up our un-opened bottles to the bar and traded it in for a cold un-opened bottle. The castmember waiters at the Cove Pool even let you use their bottle openers and brought us plastic cups to use at the pool. All in all a great deal. And by the way, we were on the 7 day cruise so we had no problems enjoying all 24 beers.

We also flew in from San Francisco and wondered where we might be able to purchase a bottle of champagne to bring on board. About a mile or two south of the port is an ABC Alchohol store. We bought our 'good bottle' of champagne (for our 25th anniversary) and a bottle of vodka and rum. My kids loved running up to deck 9 to get mom her coke and dad his lemonade for our before dinner cocktails.

I had wondered about the coolers in the rooms and mentally prepped myself to needing ice however our room, 7062 had an awsome cooler. It was a fridge and we could adjust the setting on it. Kept our beverages cold not cool.
Anyways we had a theory. Bring some and buy some. DCL does not want any ice in the cooler that will leak out and damage the xray machines. Fine enough. We bought a softsided cooler on wheels and packed in coolers, beer, bottles of water and juices. The alcohol you bring on board is supposed to be for consumption in your stateroom but the urge to bring a can of Bud on deck is there plus they sell the cans at the bars. I still bought from the bar.
Don't forget to bring some back with you when you go on shore just to sample some local beers. We brought a few back on both stops and it was ok.

My husband loves this idea. I'll look up the cost later on my old receipts. What you do not drink they keep it cold and bring it to you whenever you ask.

$4/beer isn't that bad for being in a 'resort' atmosphere. When we went on our last cruise in 2004 they were charging aroun $3/abeer. Maybe we can take a cooler & get some extra in Key West:cool1:

IMHO you can't bring enough beer on a 7 day cruise to make it worth the hassle! Sure you save a bit on a few beers but you have to ice them down, bring them with you too the pool, get them on board in the first place, etc. Its a vacation! Now bringing some vodka and such on board is a completely different thing!::yes::

That is what my DH said. I'm more frugile than him! We are only beer drinkers, so we'll have to play it by ear, I guess.

Just remember that your TIME also has value so how much of your valuable vacation time would be spent dealing with this? Also be frugile with your vacation time!

You can also pick up some in each port. Make it an excuse to try new beer you otherwise wouldn't get to try.

This it true! Good way of thinking of it!:cool1:

Lets do the math ....30 beers @ $4= $120+15% tip= $138 now if I bring my own $18.99+$15 extra bag charge= $33.99...so a savings of $104.01= WORTH MY TIME:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We took 3 cases of beer on the last time it was no hassle at all
We just put them in a bucket and carried it down to the pool and bar.

I took them out of the case and put them in a carry on duffle bag with wheels. I put a few beach towls in the bag just to keep them from moving around.

Where did you get the bucket? may be a silly question, but earlier there was mention of buying a bucket of beers at the pool, do you do that then just keep the bucket? Sorry first time cruiser long time beer lover ! :rotfl2:
