beer mug package

If you are bringing your own beer as well, the mug gives a glass to drink your byob beer as well. There are more and more decent beers being canned these days, but the beer snob in me just won't let me drink them straight out of the can.

When we were on the Dream last fall I got a lot of refills of the house beer 687 and that 22oz was $5. It will depend on your beer choice but really not too pricey considering you are on a cruise ship! Once you figure in the cost of the mug you will start to break even around 9 or 10 refills so Drink up! :)

Can I have my packpack and a small bag for beer to carry on the ship (I'm a man) so can I have 2 bags?:cool1: I know my DW can have a bag and a purse

Yes you can. The ship is not like the airlines where you can only carry on 2 bags. You will not have any problems. Many people have more than 2 carryons each while boarding.

My DH and friend both carried on board 2 six pack each in their carry ons. Then at each stop they found a store and purchased several more six packs to bring on board. Between purchasing the Disney beer mug and the six packs in our cabin they had plenty.

Is there a picture of the mug. Also how much is it

The mug package costs $15. You get a 20oz beer for the cost of a 15oz beer. Beer costs vary depending on what you drink, but the run in the $4-$7 range for the most part. DCL doesn't carry an extensive selection of draft beers. They've got a few good ones, but sometimes you have to hunt around the ship until you find something that interests you, especially if Miller Lite, Bud & Bud Light aren't your beers of choice.

I've purchased the beer mug package twice. The first time so I could keep the mug after the cruise for my bar at home. The second time, so I could get the discounted beers on that cruise and have the token for future cruises. Now, I just take the token with me and present it at the bar and they pull out a fresh mug and I'm on my way!!!

Im thinking of getting this for my Dad and husband, anyone do this?? Is it worth it??

i purchased the chip/mug and i am glad i did....its especially good if you take multiple cruises as you can take the mug with you or keep the chip and use it on future cruises to buy beer in the mug...

My DH bought one of the mugs on our first DCL cruise. We didn't know about the token system and none of the bartenders told my DH about it on our 4-day cruise! We brought the mug home and intended to take it on the Fantasy last month. At the last minute, we decided not to as we were afraid it would break. DH and I will be on the Dream again in September and we'd like to take the mug and purchase another while onboard so we'll have a matching pair.

A question for experienced packers: Would you roll it in a couple of t-shirts and pack it in a bag you plan to check, or would you put it in a carry-on? Our checked luggage was handled pretty roughly on our most recent cruise so I'm concerned that it might break, but I'm not sure whether the airlines (US Airways, in our case) allow glass in a carry-on.

It shouldn't matter since it'll be empty, but if you are unsure, call the airline and ask.

This will be the third time my husband is bringing his mug back to the ship with him. We roll it up in a couple t-shirts and pack it in the middle of our suitcase, never with a problem. You can just bring the token home with you if you believe you will be going on a Disney ship again. But my husband likes to have the actual mug just in case.

Thanks. I think that's what we'll do. Our plan is to bring 2 tokens home since we're planning a Med cruise for next summer, but we may end up bringing the mugs just in case!

Did this back when DCL still had the ESPN Skybox. The mugs had that logo or the DCL logo. Now just use the token instead of bringing the mug.

I'm sorta surprised a "Beer Token Swap" program hasn't been started.

Not worth the hassle for most people, I'd guess. I won't even take my mug on my next cruise, I'll just buy the package again. I actually wish they'd print up different mugs with the ship names, maybe even the year.

But then again... I'm weird in that I collect drinking paraphernalia (shot glasses, beer mugs/steins, little bottles of rum from each island, etc...) :)

My comment was actually more snark than truth. :stir:

And my husband likes to collect these things too, so we wouldn't be able to participate anyway.

A collector here! I have the above mentioned ESPN skybox mug, a Disney 2000 mug and a current mug. I would love to have a mug every year with the ship name and current year on it. I feel this is one of the least expensive souvenirs I can buy and it allows be to drink more beer!

I am unclear on the token program. Do you get one token that is just "flashed" at the bartender and then reused? Or are we supplied with a box full of tokens to use as payment for our next cold one? I plan on getting my $$ worth from the mug deal. Also, do you tip the bartenders like we do on shore, meaning a dollar or two at the time of purchase? Or is there a different method for tipping bartenders and room service delivery chaps? I assume the bartenders etc are not included in the "pre-paid" tip amounts.
