Beer at WDW-has it come to this???

This is slightly OT, but does anyone know how/where to get decently priced good beer while staying on property (I'll be at the Boardwalk Villas)? I'd like to get some six packs or tall bottles to drink in our room after the parks close. :

Goodings in the Crossroads Plaza had a good selection last time I was there. They also had a nice assortment of Belgian Ales.

Funny about Yuengling--clearly better than Bud, but now seems to be catching on as a "specialty" beer.
I don't undestand that either. Yuengling Lager is very much a mainstream beer in terms of taste. Tastes better than Bud, Miller, etc. (i.e., actually tastes like beer) but it certainly aims to be non-offensive in every way, to the point of being low on the list for beer afficionados. But at least it's on the list, as opposed to Bud, Coors, Michelob etc., which aren't on the list at all.

I think what makes some non-beer afficionados think of Yuengling as a "specialty" beer is that it's amber rather than yellow.

AB products are the biggest sellers because of advertising and the fact that they are everywhere. Thats it.

Ok, well DH's request was the Biergarten Restaurant so what is the beer like there? I hope not Bud.

I enjoy Widmer very much, though I haven't had it in quite a while. I don't consider it an "American style hefeweizen" rather a "German style hefeweizen" that is made in America. I can relate to gasps of horror though, you can hold the lemon on my glass.

Steve

american style refers to it being unfiltered - german style is filtered. Also, widmer brews with altbier yeast, instead of the traditional bavarian strain used in hefeweizen.

Had a look at the menu at Citrico's recently. Offered as "specialty" beers--Bud and Miller Light.
Oh dear----

Ya they are special all right:lmao:

Their website claims it's the "Great American Lager."

If you haven't already, you might want to give the Brooklyn Pilsner a try as well. Also, if you can get Saranac where you live, it's tasty stuff. BTW, most of Brooklyn's beer is contract-brewed at the Saranac brewery in Utica, NY.

David

Is that the same brewery that made Utica Club?

Steve, isn't Goodings the one that is walking distance from Downtown Disney?

Yeungling doesn't taste so bad, but it gives me a monster headache. I try not to drink it whenever possible.

Hmmm. All of the German hefe-weizen (yeast-wheat) beers I've had are top-fermented, unfiltered, bottle conditioned beers with the exception being Maisel Kristallweizen, which is filtered. The definition for German hefeweizen is as I stated, including unfiltered. This is what scares off most Bud drinkers, hehe, it's not filtered and it has FLAVOR.

You know...Boston (by way of Missouri , Pennsylvania, and Ohio) is LIKE another country compared to WDW.

And Killians went from being brewed in Ireland, to France, to....well, I don't know where Coors brews it now but probably Colorado, or some place equally "foreign". :)

And the Japanese beer Kirin, is brewed by Budweiser, probably in Ohio.:rotfl2:

I guess you <could> walk. From Downtown Disney take Hotel Plaza Blvd to 535, Crossroads is across 535 on the left.

Yes... it's called the "West End Brewery." They brew all the Saranacs under their own "Saranac" label, and contract brew for many others (such as Brooklyn) because they have the capacity. Before Sam Adams built their new brewery a few years back, most of theirs was brewed at the West End as well.

When did they yank the half yard from the R&C? We had one last year and I will be very sad =(

(just have to give another "bud is nasty" vote in, though I know the conversation is a few pages back. It's popular because it's cheap. Blech.)

They had the 1/2 yds in July when we went. We are leaving on Thurs and would really like o know if they are still selling them. We love getting one and re-filling them multiple times.........Someone PLEASE Help!!!!!! I will be so sad!!!!!!!!

Don't mean to hijack this post, but I'm curious about what all is served at the UK Pavillion (Rose and Crown Pub specifically). I know Guinness is readily available and this is usually what we have. I've recently became hooked on several Belhaven brews, and this coming from a chick that doesn't really like care for beer/ale that much I really like these. Does anyone know if they have Belhaven Scottish Ale, Belhaven Twisted Thistle or St. Andrews Ale? I just don't remember seeing these there before, of course I may have overlooked them to as it has only been recently that I first sampled them.

Thanks

If you have the time and means to leave property, Cost Plus World Market had a "soft" opening today at the new open Air Mall in Winter Garden at 429/535. Grand opening is the 9th. Imho they had a decent selection of beers and wines from around the globe at this location. However no alcohol sales on Sunday in Winter Garden. It's really not that far of a drive from Disney. Also in downtown old Winter Garden there is a Cafe called MoonCrickets that has 99 brands.

Around late Sept/early Oct we were told. Refills not considered sanitary by the Fla Health Dept was the story we were given.

They had Becks lager, O'fest and Spaten Optimator and Fransziskaner about two weeks ago. We recommend the Franzi if you are a hefeweizen fan.
