Hi! I'm planning to get away for a couple of days in April. Instead of our usual short getaway spot--Gatlinburg, TN...I was thinking about Stone Mountain Park. Anyone on the board have any experience with this?

We spent the day there a few years ago. It was a very nice park. There was a boat ride, and a lift to take you up to the top. Some really nice picnic areas. It has been some time and may have changed but we enjoyed the day.

We went there 3 years ago and loved it! It was a spur of the moment thing and I'd never even heard of it until the day we went there! It was August and HOT so we didn't climb the mountain, and the lifts weren't working that day. But we did the train ride, looked in all of the shops, enjoyed some yummy food, and watched the laser show on the mountain at night. Loved it!

Is this in Georgia?
I think it is the beginning of the Appalachian Trail.

I've been a few times. The laser show is great, but I'm not sure it will be going in April. I've never stayed there at the resort but I've always wanted to. I have camped there and found the facilities to be great.

We were there for a day a few years back. Did the ride to the top of the mountain and checked out all the shops. It's nice for a day trip.

I highly recommend Stone Mountain.

You can ride to the top of the mountain in a gondola, and that is a lot of fun.

On top of the granite you can see the most beautiful view of the Atlanta skyline!

Also, anyone interested in trains and old railways (1800's) will enjoy the loop around the base of the granite.

I was planning on doing a day or so at Stone Mountain and then spend some time in Atlanta.

Stone Mountain is OUTSTANDING! It's where hubby and I went for two of our anniversary celebrations. Spent some time at the zoo, the World of Coke, and the Yellow River Game Ranch. Haven't been since 2006, but hope to get there within the next year.

I haven't been there in awhile but my son goes every summer. He loves it. I wanted to check out Snow Mountain which opened 12/31 but everytime we planned to go it rained!

We stayed at the Evergreen Marriott there several years ago in April, it was very nice. Played golf. Very relaxing.
