Been to an IKEA lately?

I went to my local IKEA this week. I haven't been to one since February maybe. And everything was fine then. That trip was for buying linens for our new RV. Plenty of everything, no problems finding what I wanted.

But I was shocked during this visit. It was half empty. Literally empty bins and shelves everywhere. Like zero toys in the kids section, no pictures in the art section, etc.

I went there to get houseplants and pots for the office. Everybody's back in the office now and 4 of our plants died during the worst of the lockdown including our beautiful palm tree. In the past I'd always been able to get us all the real greenery we wanted from IKEA. Anyway, they only had 3 types of live plants (all very small) and only itty bitty pots. So, I got a few plants and small pots, but ended up going to Home Depot to get us a new palm tree.

Tell me, is it my IKEA that's empty or are they all like this? Did the Suez Canal blockage mess them up this bad? Are all their containers stuck at Long Beach waiting to unload? Are all their factories shut down from the economic craziness right now?

I have been to Ikea several times this summer, including once the other day. Mine has been significantly depleted in since about 3 months ago. I mainly notice the shortage in anything that would be college-move-in-related. Mine still has kids' toys, many pictures in the art section, etc. But there are things that I wanted for my daughters' dorm rooms that I didn't buy early enough and they are gone now.

My college kid and 6 friends went to IKEA last weekend. They had just moved into apartments and wanted to get things for their dorm.

We had also been to 2 Walmarts and a Target. All of the college stuff was very depleted in all stores.

I know from my own household shopping this past year, that items I could have bought pre pandemic have been in short supply.

OP, I think it's a combination of pandemic and back to school.

I also have never been to an IKEA, and last weekend was DD and several of her friends first time. There is an IKEA an hour from their college.

Lord I wish we had an IKEA nearby! I could live in one.

But I was in our local Old Navy the other day to return something and couldn't believe how empty it was. Maybe stores across the board are experiencing supply chain issues?

I bet you're right. I went to a Sherwin Williams paint store that day as well. I needed a gallon of paint to do some touch ups to a paint job we had done right before the shutdown, etc. The guy at the counter couldn't get me the same type of paint that we originally used. He said they're having paint shortages, and he said I could go to the Sherwin Williams two towns over that had 1 can of this type left. I was not in the mood for running all over the county for a can of paint, so I got a can of something similar. Crossing my fingers that it's not too different.....

I haven't been to our Ikea since late winter/early spring but it wouldn't surprise me if there are issues like other stores are having. Ikea is so big with so many items I bet it would be quite a shock to see so little stock. I do know back then furniture like many other places were running into issues, like I would look at something on their website and it would be showing backordered or something like that.

Hmm..now I want to go check out our Ikea..

We went to Ikea about 6 weeks ago. DD had a list with several things she wanted for her new apartment. We were only able to purchase 1 of the items. The rest were out of stock. The warehouse seemed half empty.
Disappointing trip...

I was at the Columbus Ikea in June and while they did have less stock than normal it wasn't bad. They had everything I went down for and when walking through the bulk area there were not that many empty bins or shelves.

I love IKEA - one of my favorite stores.
I haven’t been since last November, but we’re planning on going soon for some items. I’ll try to remember to post how it was - hopefully they have what I want 🤞🏼

I was pleasantly surprised this summer when I was looking to buy a new couch and all the furniture stores near me were saying I would have to wait months for delivery, but I was able to find a couch from Ikea that was delivered in about a week's time.

Me neither. There's one about 20 minutes from my house, no interest.
Oddly enough one of the best buys we've gotten from there have been surge protectors. I'm not the most fond of the modern furniture but I have seen a thing or two there over time that I'd like just haven't bought. It's def. not Aaron's favorite place . We've only been a handful of times to the one here though.

We were at IKEA in June and it was well stocked then but when I moved my son into college on Tuesday I noticed lots of shortages in Walmart, Target, the Dollar Store and 5 below. I stopped to get him some basic school supplies and my Target was wiped out - We do not even start school until September 8th here. He forgot to tell me to bring hangers - there was not a hanger to be found in all of Buffalo. He is only an hour from home and his sister had to drive there the next day so she dropped his hangers off at his car in the stadium parking lot.

Ours is out of stock on a lot of items. Then again so are local furniture stores too. Prices are inflated as well. So we caved and ordered a metal headboard through Wayfair just to have a headboard for a faction of the cost. Turns out we really like it.

There are supply shortages in just about every industry right now due to both raw material shortages and shipping issues.

We went the first weekend in June, and yes, the store looked like the toilet paper shelves at Target last March. They were out of everything.
