Been to an IKEA lately?

a few weeks ago for the first time in probably a decade. Seemed pretty well stocked to me but I did have to order and wait a week or so for my bookcase.

With a lot of others here, have not been in our closest IKEA - went several years ago to one out of state, and very unimpressed with their quality. So not sure of their stocks here, but other stores here are mostly stocked - some a little less than others, but I have attributed that to people being home so much the last year and half and making home improvements, having to buy more groceries, etc. especially the first year of the pandemic.

It's hard to find items in stock at our local store. They started having supply chain issues early covid (like many other places) and are still struggling. I was still able to redo my bedroom, but had to wait about 6 weeks for a delivery on items that had, in the past, been in stock. I could have mixed and matched differently and gotten a shorter time, but I'd rather wait. They told me between supply chain issues and so many people remodeling while being cooped up inside things got crazy behind.

It’s supply chain mixed with back to college. Our family treats ikea like a neighborhood bar and we don’t go during august. We live near big universities and it’s a madhouse for a few weeks.

I went a few weeks ago and there were several areas roped off (bare area) almost zero chairs, nothing in the plant section-no live plants, very odd. Becoming the sad, new norm - supply chain issue due to covid - blah blah blah

We were last at IKEA about 5 weeks ago, didn't notice any depleted stock. Most shelves and areas were well stocked.

We went to the one in Indianapolis earlier this month, and it seemed that close to half of the items were saying out of stock.

It was highly disappointing as we were trying to get some stuff for our new house.

The trucking industry is affected by the labor shortage as well. People, including truck drivers, are still sitting on the coach getting enhanced government checks. Until that stops, these issues will continue.

Supply issues. I have family who own a trucking company and they have trucks\drivers but no freight. Several ports are closed due to covid. Our Ikea is low on stock too.

Just in time manufacturing was embraced by so many industries. What we are seeing is the effect of sporadic and long term supply chain issues.

I don't have an Ikea nearby. I will check one out some day though. They sound interesting at least.

IKEA always sounds like fun until I’m actually there navigating through the maze.

Lots of things out of stock. If you are looking for a desk and desk chair, for example, you will probably be able to get them, but quite possibly not in your first choice of style/color.

Remember, too, that you have two populations of students furnishing dorm rooms/apartments this year - the freshmen, as you'd expect, as well as the sophomores, many of whom stayed at home last year.

I’m in retail of sorts, and the global supply chain is a disaster at the moment… I suppose it’s technically been bad for the past year, but there a bunch of factors contributing.. COVID is the common denominator though. Factories shut down, foundries shut down, mining stopped, and everyone put a big stop to the existing orders.. when things started to open back up, the basic material supplies weren’t available, and since then there has been a supply chain equivalent of that slinky dog highway traffic jam that stops for no apparent reason, then everyone speeds up, only to stop again..over and over. Another big part of it is just the logistics of it all… the freighters bringing product and supplies from overseas have been stacked up off California for a long time, and they just can’t get them unloaded fast enough. It’s everything from semiconductor, which is the main reason the car lots are empty, to things like sheet metal, and the most random one was that a lot of the Mc Donald’s near us were out of bags, and they had no idea when they’d have more come in…
