It this true?! I finally decided on the Poly over the GF for Sept 2011 and now I am second guessing myself. Should I switch? I hate second guessing myself! Please help!!

We were there for 2 nights Dec. 5th and 6th and there were no problems with our room .

This May we are picking the Grand Floridian over the Polynesian. It will be our lst time there but we will split the stay with the Yacht Club.

No issues for us. Our room was clean. I have read complaints about chipped furniture and peeling paint. That kind of stuff doesnt bother me. I have some chipped furniture in my own home. I don't expect any resort that caters to children to be in perfect condition. Our room was in top shape though no complaints.

I've only had one dirty room at Poly so far. :) Your chances of getting a dirty room are pretty slim IMO. :goodvibes

We stayed there for a week last month. The room was clean when we arrived and we had no issues with the mousekeepers the rest of the week.

We stayed club level Dec 9-15 and the room was clean upon arrival, but poorly cleaned during our stay. Counters were never wiped (crumbs there on day one were still there when we left), mirror and shower never cleaned, carpet not vacuumed, toiletries not replenished, glasses not picked up or replaced, towels not left. Beds were made and trash emptied, but that's about it. Turndown was also very haphazard (about 50/50).

Public areas (hallways, club lounge) were also kinda groddy throughout our stay. Room service dishes--not ours, but those left by other guests--stayed in our hallway for DAYS (and stunk!), despite the hall often being filled with multiple housekeeping carts. They just kept walking by them until we complained. Totally unnecessary.

We were told when we said something that we were far from the only complaint regarding housekeeping, but it didn't change after that either.

I noticed the food in the hallway thing too! Totally takes away from hotel appearance but I guess can happen everywhere they have room service. We were there in August. We had some room issues but nothing that could be fixed during our stay. One thing we did notice as soon as we walked in was the fingerprints all over the sliding glass door. We had a theme park view and they had the curtains back for us to see the castle when we walked in. Well the first thing I noticed were all the smudges. Our housekeeping was good while we were there. We did a split stay first half GF, second half Poly. I thought the GF was in better overall condition. Like the beach better at the Poly. Like the rooms better at GF.

In our number of stays at the Poly, we never had an issue with a dirty room. I can't comment on the GF personally re cleanliness because we've never had a desire to stay there.

Please realize that you can and will read about "poor mousekeeping" at almost every resort. There have been cuts all over Disney and mousekeeping is doing more rooms than they did before. This is not an excuse, but a reality. If you have an issue with a dirty room, either call Mousekeeping directly or go to the front desk and ask that it be taken care of.

It is said ? the problems re the Poly is MANAGEMENT issues. the place needs cleaning and and refurbishing to say the least. I won't stay there till these problems r resolved.:guilty:

We've had 2 Poly CL stays in the past few years and didn't have any problems with cleaning. As someone said, all of the resorts can have reports of not clean rooms and perfectly clean rooms. It's best to pick the resort based on other criteria (theme, price, etc.) and if you get a room that you feel is unacceptable, ask to be moved or ask to have it re-cleaned.

As for the trays in the hall, it is my understanding that it is not housekeeping's job to remove them. I believe they prefer that you don't put them in the hall at all, but call back to room service when you are done to have them picked up from your room. Or if you must put them in the hall, call room service at that time and let them know. Especially at a resort with separate buildings like the Poly, or the far off wings of other resorts, I think they just don't get seen by the right people because I don't think that's normally what the housekeepers do. Just for future reference for all - I agree, I hate seeing a bunch of stinky trays in the hallway.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. People are much more likely to post about a negative experience at a resort than a positive one. Go ahead and enjoy your trip; if something comes up, address it w/ the proper management at the resort. Have fun! :)

YEP, and I'm one of those people! HUGE issues -- HUGE! Filthy shower curtains, filthy around toilets, sulfur-tasting water in rooms and at Captain Cook's. DD and I both got bitten multiple times in bed -- seriously think there were bed bugs. Dismal service at the restaurant -- not 'Ohanas, but the other supposedly nice one. This was all last March -- don't know if there have been any improvements. Anywhere else, they would not be able to charge NEARLY as much for such "quality" than Disney. We'll never stay there again. Sorry to be a downer, but since you asked ...

Have you given any thought to WL -- BEST and CLEANEST Deluxe, IMHO!

Oh yeah and we also had some maintence issues that also couldn't be, or weren't, addressed during our stay. (A faulty fridge was replaced.)

One of the two beds was broken--there was another report of this on the Poly thread for a different room too--where it looked OK but when you climbed into it, the bed tipped (like stepping into a rowboat) because the support board was broken right down the middle, and based on the wear and multiple breaks had been for a while (my husband moved the mattress and looked). We put my three year old in that one so it wasn't as big an issue (he's little) but if we forgot and sat on the side it listed frighteningly.

Also the bathroom door wouldn't close (latch) at all and because it's heavy, it wouldn't just stay closed either, so zero privacy throughout our stay. As it was just me, hubby and (young) son, it wasn't the end of the world, but neither is OK for any hotel, let alone one where you're paying $400+/night for your room.

Also no remote and the in-room DVD player didn't work properly.

We reported all on day one, very politely, to the front desk, as we later did the housekeeping issues, and nothing was done other than an "I'm so sorry about that." They did write it down, but no repairs were made. We followed up once or twice but then just got tired of wasting our time complaining when it was clear nothing was going to be done. Depressing, really, for such an expensive trip and one where we spent a lot more time in our room than might be normal because of extremely cold temps (40-year lows in Florida).

Agree! I don't really see it as a "Mousekeeping" issue. It needs to be refurbished badly for the prices they are charging.

I am totally confused. On the tikimanpages website, it says that the longhouses were refurbished in 2010?? Is that so? I don't see how that can be with all of the complaints about the chipped furniture and peeling pant!!

But what if you do ask to have it re-cleaned, repeatedly, and nothing is ever done? I will note we were moved immediately upon check-in because our originally assigned room hadn't been serviced completely. (Don't know if there was more to it than that or not. We just went in and the main room was fine/cleaned, but the bathroom was strewn with towels--like 50--making me think maybe there was a leak. We literally walked in, saw the bath, and went to the desk and were told we'd been moved because there was, "a problem with the room.")

As for the trays, that may be the protocol at Disney--don't know, we never got room service so didn't look into whether they instructed you or not--but it is common practice in most hotels worldwide to leave trays outside the door for pick-up. (If you got room service, they should know to return anyway.) And, regardless, c'mon, those housekeepers in the hall know why the trays are the there, they know they stink and we were even on the same level as the club level desk where two to three staff members were on duty all day, every day. They could see the trays from the (glass) door. They could smell them. Why does it take a guest complaint to get anything done? Just unacceptable, in my opinion.

EDITED TO NOTE: I posted this not to contradict Vicki, but just because I too thought, before I went, 'Well, if there's a problem, I'll say something and it will be fixed.' Unfortunately, that was not the case, and I never considered that such items as we experienced would be left outstanding after a report. Everyone we spoke to was perfectly pleasant, as were we when speaking with them, but it was just as effective as not reporting the issues at all, so we eventually elected not to waste our time, though we still ended up having to visit the front desk two to three times per day for things that we actually needed day-to-day (towels, wash clothes, soap, shampoo, glasses, pillows that kept disappearing, etc.).

I've stayed in a LOT of hotels for my life and, of course, have had problems before. But never before have I reported so many maintenance issues and housekeeping problems that were simply not addressed after reporting and even follow-up (with different people, even), especially for a stay this long (week).

I don't think there is one resort that I have not read bad reviews on or one that has not had cleaning issues Wl, CR, GF,BWV,BCV,AK included. People are more apt to write a review if they have had a bad experience. Everyone has different perceptions of good service, bad service, clean, not clean etc. I would stay at the resort you wan't to stay at and if your not satisfied ask for a different room. This goes for any resort. Have a good time.

We have stayed at The Poly 5 years in a row, the last time CL.
We've never had any problems with Mousekeeping. I just booked our vacation for next year-Poly CL. If we had a problem, we certainly wouldn't be returning.......

Our room at the Poly in 2008 was disgusting! Nasty stains, still sticky :scared1: on the carpet; dirty cracked sink and worst of all some other guests food in the room fridge! We won't be back....

I am amazed at how many people have such varied experiences at one resort. It is making me very worried about my decision. My last three Disney trips have been BCV, BLT & WL and all the reviews I read on those were very similar. I am really thinking I might be changing to GF. Thank you all for all your feedback.
