Been hearing the Poly is having cleanliness issues?

I don't think there is one resort that I have not read bad reviews on or one that has not had cleaning issues Wl, CR, GF,BWV,BCV,AK included. People are more apt to write a review if they have had a bad experience. Everyone has different perceptions of good service, bad service, clean, not clean etc. I would stay at the resort you wan't to stay at and if your not satisfied ask for a different room. This goes for any resort. Have a good time.

This. :) Absolutely spot on.

By and large, the Disney resorts do a very good job with housekeeping. Occasionally, there will be issues, as there are at ANY hotel. Housekeepers are human, they make mistakes. Some are good at their job, some not so good. But the problems are the exception, rather than the rule.

On any internet board, you're more likely to see reports of the unusual, than reports of the commonplace. Someone who has a resort stay that met their expectations isn't going to go to the trouble of posting about it. A guest who had something amazing and unexpected happen, like an upgrade, will want to come tell everyone about it.

Likewise, a guest who had something unexpected and unpleasant happen, like a poorly-cleaned room, will want to come here and vent about it.

After awhile, the casual reader of the boards starts to think that most guests get free upgrades and all of the rooms are filthy. :)

Really....don't worry about the housekeeping at the Poly. Don't feel that you have to change your reservation. The odds are excellent that your room will be just right.

Thank you Lynne M, I am one of those casual (allthough reads more than is healthy) And going to the Poly for our first WDW stay, I tended towards getting nervous, but like any other Disney resort we have been to, it is the same. And we normally take the aproach of traveling with a smile and by being nice to other people they are normally very nice back at you. And if something are wrong ask and it is fixed just like we would expect.

The European DLP forums are full of this same kind of aproach, I do understand the need to vent out in public when a trip one was looking forward to, does not meet one´s expectations. But like any thing in life, the aproach to your vacation is as important as your expectation.
No matter what anyone tell me about how bad DLP is, all our stays since the 90´s have been excelent.

I agree that people are more likely to post negative reports than positive ones, but the negative reports have definitely been skewed against the Poly in particular in the past year or so that I've been reading the board.

Perhaps that's telling, and perhaps not. Poly is damn expensive, and people expect more, maybe. Then again, GF, WL, CR, BC, YC, and BWI are expensive, too, and you don't read about cleanliness issues at any of those resorts. Certainly not to the effect of paint chipping, missing pictures, dirty crumbs left out, etc.

We stayed at the Poly for 10 days in June. Everything was perfect. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. Couldn't have asked for a better resort. Some people just aren't happy. If there is a problem, call the front desk.

We spent a total of 9 nights at the Poly in Nov and Dec in 2 different longhouses. We had no problems what so ever. Truly the majority of people do not.

Those that do have problems usually have big problems. And that goes for any hotel or resort.

Public areas (hallways, club lounge) were also kinda groddy throughout our stay. Room service dishes--not ours, but those left by other guests--stayed in our hallway for DAYS (and stunk!), despite the hall often being filled with multiple housekeeping carts. They just kept walking by them until we complained. Totally unnecessary.

Are you sure these weren't different trays? I have stayed at several WDW resorts and I've seen many trays sit outside rooms for hours, never days. If that's the case, they have a major problem...gross. It won't be too long before they have a problem with roaches. <<<shudder>>> I can't imagine...too disgusting.

To the OP, we stayed at the Poly in Nov. '09 and had no problems. If you arrive and see things are not as expected, call housekeeping and complain. In my experience, housekeeping is extremely quick in responding to phone calls and they've done a good job. I would not let worries about housekeeping stop me from booking a particular resort.

6 days in December same experience.

we've stayed there 3 times within the past 5 years and it was totally fine :confused3 And we are very picky on our hotel rooms. We LOVE the poly! We thought their service was amazing, room was always cleaned, and the grounds were kept nicely. I think you should give it a try. :thumbsup2

We stay at the Poly twice a year. We have been staying for about four years now. We love the grounds, the beach, the food. But NOW I must say it is in desperate need of refurbishment. The rooms need an overhaul. We are going to stay elsewhere until it is refurbished. I still will visit for dinner and go for a stroll on the beach but not to stay in one of the rooms there. I just can't justify paying $400 a night for rooms that are in the condition they are in. Yes, you may get a clean room but peeling wallpaper, holes in carpet, mold in bathrooms is just not acceptable in my opinion. Yes this can happen at any hotel in disney. But most of the hotels do not cost as much as the Poly does. My son always wanted to stay at the GF. My husband and I were hesitant b/c it seemed to formal. We finally did it our last trip in August. We booked split stays between GF/then Poly. Staying at GF first made us realize how run down the Poly rooms actually are. We were pleasantly surprised how comfortable we felt at GF. I still love the Poly beach!

You have to keep in mind that sometimes the same posters will jump on every thread about a resort and post their negative experience. Making it seem that there is more negative reviews then there actually is. This is something I have noticed and something to consider. I'm sure it is the same with positive reviews also.

Our room at the Poly in 2008 was disgusting! Nasty stains, still sticky :scared1: on the carpet; dirty cracked sink and worst of all some other guests food in the room fridge! We won't be back....

On or last trip we were moved mid trip due to multiple issues with our room. We enjoyed the rest of our stay and they were very kind to us but I will not stay again although I have a lot of child hood memories of the Poly and wish it would be a flagship resort once again.

This is what I've been afraid of. The last 2 years I've taken my nephews to WDW and stayed at the GF. We LOVED it there, however over Christmas they told me their secret wish was to stay at Stich's house (the Poly) on our vacation in November (2011) then go back to the GF the next time. So, being the great Aunt I am, I switched our reservation from GF TPV to the Poly TPV. Hopefully the rooms we get aren't disgusting and run down, but if they are I am hightailing it out of there and will go to the GF and pay rack rate if I have to. I will not stay in a run down, dirty room. :scared1:

After staying at a number of WDW resorts I had dreamed about staying at the Poly. Feb. '10 my parents decided to take the entire family and allowed me to do all the booking. They originally requested the Contemporary with an outside A-frame room but all they could offer was Garden wing...not happening. So I booked 2 connecting rooms MK view a the Poly. It was well worth the wait. The rooms were wonderful and very well cleaned everyday. We woke up every morning to the sight of the castle and sounds of rope drop (which you can hear across the lake!) My nephew spent hours on the balcony watching the monorails go around and around.

Bottom line, Poly was one of the first resorts to be built on property. You can change the decor and carpets but you can't change the "motel room" configuration (remember the GF was built years after the Poly and CR). OP, Disney is about the "magic" and the small inconveniences that you may experience can not take away from the first time a child (or adult) meets that famous mouse.

Enjoy your trip and have a Dole Whip at Captain Cooks for me :wizard:

Hi

We just returned from a 3nt Hard rock, 6nt beach club and 5nt poly stay, we had an amazing time at all 3 and the locations and ground of all were excellent, however the rooms were a different experience, the hard rock was by far the cleanest with the most friendly staff. The beach club was clean but very dusty and sticky finger marks on windows, but the poly rooms were not clean, bathroom and beds were good so thats ok for me, the rest i dusted and cleaned myself, which you should not have to do IMO in a deluxe accommodation! Would stay at the BC again but not Poly, if we could afford it would rather do GF

Ugh! This is exactly my issue with paying so much money for the Poly...granted I have not yet stayed there, however, we will have our 1st stay July of next year. With the $$ that is charged, I would expect that the room will be clean and in good condition...maybe even more so than I would expect of values. Though, if I am paying for something, I expect it to be a good product, if I am spending ALOT of $$ for something, yes, I am going to expect more. Now, we stayed at CBR this past Feb. with Free dining (which is why we upgraded to moderate)...The room was pretty clean, however, I did notice that the shower curtain had some moldy issues (not alot, but noticeable) as did the back of the bathroom door...I am NOT a complainer by nature, so we just lived with it...BUT, if this were to happen at the Poly, I am sure I would say something by sheer fact of the amount of money I am paying out. I am hoping we have no room issues at the Poly, but I do note that the majority of people don't have complaints about it... :confused3

we are booked for the poly next week, and now i am having second thoughts. Did the rooms look run down, or it a matter of the cleaning staff not doing their jobs? Do i need to switch resorts. we have spent a lot of money on this trip, and i would rather spend a little more if need be rather than be disappointed.

Oh MY Mouse Mommy!!! I KNEW I shouldn't have opened this thread :scared1: These are my fears too....I don't want to pay such high price for a room and then have a run-down/paint peeling/wallpaper peeling/holes in my carpet/smudges/dusty room to contend with :sad2: That would be horrible.....I truly hope it is not the norm at the POLY. I would love to stay BWI CL, but it is a couple thousand more than the POLY, and my son and I have always wanted to try the POLY ....the volcano pool looks amazing, wishes from the beach, tiki torch-lit walks, the monorail, it all looks like it has such a magical ambience.... I want to experience that! :lovestruc For now, I will hold strong and NOT change my ressie....but if a great room discount comes out for my time, well....I might look at it. but for now, I am sticking to my decision to try the POLY this trip! :goodvibes

I'm trying to be strong, but I will not deny that I did call and confirm that AKL CL would be $120 less than our standard room at the POLY...nor will I deny that I did confirm that a POR-Royal Room would be $758 less and I might be able to lessen my expectations... :rolleyes1

When I stayed at the Poly our room was very clean, maybe the furniture was a little worn, but that didn't bother me at all. With so many people coming and going I understand that some of the furniture might show a little wear (paint scratches, chips, etc.), but the room was always cleaned well and restocked.

The hallways were well cleaned, though there were fingerprints on the end windows of the hallway, I saw someone cleaning those everyday (but kids don't know how to keep their hands off windows sometimes so of course it's gonna show some fingerprints throughout the day).

We had a problem with the refrigerator not staying cold so I called and had someone from maintenance up looking at it within a reasonable amount of time and had no more problems with it the rest of the stay.

I have stayed other places where there was a problem in the room and when that happens we call and have someone come check out the problem (anytime we've called for maintenance, housekeeping, etc.) they've always been prompt. If there is a big problem with the room that can't be fixed then we will ask to be moved. Like the poster who said one of the beds was broken, that's a big problem and I would have insisted on being moved out of the room if the bed problem wasn't something they could fix that day.

I hate that people are having issues with the resorts (any resort), but if something isn't up to your standards you should keep calling housekeeping or speaking to a manager until you get a satisfactory answer/resolution and then hopefully your stay will get better.

Not all resort experiences are bad though, we had a great experience at the Poly and at other resorts so I'm always glad to share our positive experiences so people see both sides.

To the OP I think you will have a great time as long as you keep your expectations reasonable, don't worry to much about it and I know you'll have an amazing vacation!

I am a complete nut about cleanliness and germs, and have never had a problem at the Poly. We had an issue with ants on the patio area coming in under the slider, but maintenance came quickly and took care if it. We were offered a room change too. The only cleanliness issues I've noticed were from guests who put their room service trays out into the halls. That is gross. Funny, I didn't notice guests doing that at the GF this summer.
